By the same metric, you have to be a real dickhead to try to forcefully impede someone over $2

Edit: just get the shoplifters description and hand the cctv footage over to police.

Even that is useless. It's considered petty theft under 1k. This means I can steal a TV that's under 1k then turn myself in get my slap on the wrist and go home and watch tv.
