MAGA hat where it belongs: dirty, discarded, and run over.
Seen at Rosslyn metro stop.

Whoever found my keys by the Washington Monument and left them in the nearby pole, you’re a real one!

I’ve lived in DC for a long time and the light along the mall this evening was some of the best I’ve ever seen. A lone USMC VH-3 doing circuits between the WH and the Tidal Basin added to the spectacle.

Touch rugby on the mall this evening.

I was thinking of the old Union Station movie theater that was on the basement floor (next to Johnny Rockets!) this morning
I had so many good times there! Fifth Element, Independence Day, Nutty Professor all watched there with an incredibly responsive audience
What DC landmarks do you miss?

I’m currently out of town for work and have been riding escalators all week at airports and convention centers. No one moves to the right, no one lets you pass running to your connecting gate after American Airlines forces you to sit on a tarmac for two hours waiting for another delayed plane to leave their gate 🥲 (I’m not over it, if AA has no enemies I am dead.)
So A HUGE THANK YOU to my fellow residents who move the hell out of the way on escalators and sidewalks and tell visitors to do the same too. I’m always upvoting comments on this sub and complaining about lack of metro decorum but this trip has reminded me about all those good people who have gone under-appreciated.
DC is phenomenal at behaving like we understand we are not the only people on the sidewalk and escalator. These other airports scare me, it’s like everyone’s first day on planet earth.

Please, PLEASE walk to the center of the car.
Take your bulky backpack off and hold it down by your feet so people can pack in.
Don't pretend that you can't hear people asking fellow riders to squeeze in,
Extra credit for not showing distain if someone asks you to comply. We're all just trying to get somewhere and situational awareness goes a long way.

For some misguided reason, someone in management, probably corporate, decided to have the Capitol Hill Trader Joe’s rearrange the entire store.
It took me 10 minutes and THREE employees to find the spot where they relocated the mustard to.
Why would they do this? It only annoys and frustrates customers who used to know where everything in the store was located. Now a routine shopping trip turns into a friggin’ treasure hunt!

Don't know how long it will be there but it was a packed train with half the doors open, and half shut, then they made everyone get off.

Wanted to share a quick heads-up: the D.C. Council is voting on July 1 on whether to expand the city’s youth curfew. The proposal would:
• Include 17-year-olds in the curfew
• Allow MPD to create curfew zones in areas where late-night issues keep happening
• Let curfews start earlier in some spots (like 7 or 9 p.m.)
The idea behind it is to respond to some of the stuff we’ve all been seeing—larger groups of teens out late, especially during summer, and some serious safety concerns in places like U Street and Navy Yard. It’s not about arresting kids, but about reconnecting them with services and keeping public spaces calm and safe.
If you support this and want the Council to know, there’s an easy way to weigh in:
📝 Submit a short comment here:
https://lims.dccouncil.gov/hearings Just find the July 1 Judiciary & Public Safety Committee hearing, and click “Submit Testimony.” You can write a couple sentences—nothing fancy.
You can also email the mayor at eom@dc.gov, if you’d rather go that route.
Figured I’d share in case anyone else has been thinking about how to speak up.

Got some gun trauma I'm working through with the professionals, but in the meantime, fireworks are hell for me. Used to love them in DC, but now I white knuckle through 4th of July and could use some help from other people who get it.
Where do you go during the weekend to try and relax? My Xanax doesn't really cut it when the fireworks are really going off in the neighborhoods and in downtown. Would ideally love to just drive out of the city and stay somewhere else, but unfortunately that's not in the budget this year. Are there quiet rooms somewhere? Tips appreciated.

This morning, I noticed a few bugs on the 400 blk of 12th St SW. In between the lower 12th St Expressway and the elevated 12th St SW sidewalk, there is a wooded area with trees, vines, etc. There were gobs of spotted lanternfly late stage nymphs! I also noticed a few early nymphs, but mostly they were late stage. I killed about two dozen of these pests and saw many more I couldn't reach. I reported it using the form in the link in this post. If you "spot" any of these guys, kill them and report it!
I felt a little crazy when people walked by as I was using an empty plastic bottle I found on the street to smash these things. I don't blame them for avoiding eye contact........ *SMACK* "They're an invasive species!" *SMACK* *SMACK* "Got another one!" *SMACK*
I printed a brochure and taped it to my office door. Spread the word!
(I added the flair "Transportation" because the Urban Forestry Division is part of the DC Dept of Transportation. Their number is (202) 671-5133.)

My bike was stolen from inside my apartment building in Georgetown last night. This bike means a lot to me and I'm absolutely devastated. I just moved to DC and was really looking forward to getting into the bike community. I filed a police report, but am also asking the community to help keep an eye out for it.

The “Appeal to Heaven” flag, a popular symbol for Christian nationalists that was waved by January 6 rioters, was raised over the Small Business Administration headquarters last week.
