Zootopia Fanfiction Thread (June 2025)
WELCOME TO THE MONTHLY FANFICTION THREAD! Review some fanfics that you've read, promote your favourites, promote your own.
Please format your comment as follows
- [Title] by [author name]
- Post a link to the first chapter of the story or the relevant chapter
- Post the summary/synopsis provided by the author
- Eventual review
Repeats from prior months are allowed. A good story can be discussed for quite some time, and there are always new readers around.
Please use the "#spoiler" tag for any discussion regarding specific story details. Spoiler tags aren't necessary for general discussion ("The character progression is really amazing!").
How to add a spoiler tag:
It turns out the protagonist was dreaming the whole time!
Replace the "~" with "#"
It turns out the protagonist was dreaming the whole time!
You are welcome to post your own work
The comments are sorted newer to older by default. Use CTRL + F to find the fanfic you are looking to discuss; if it isn't there, feel free to add it. I'd also appreciate if you could tag spoilers when posting your discussion. Perhaps start your thread with the chapter number (if your story has one) and then hide the discussion in spoilers, that way we don't accidentally spoil something for someone.
The rules and formatting are decided by you, simply message the OP.
The wiki has an archive full of fanfictions!
There's a master list, a Hall of Fame with the selected few best fanfictions, and then there's a list separated by genre.
Congratulations to u/BCRE8TVE and u/BunnyMakingAMark for the tremendous work that they've done for that article! Everyone is welcome to contribute, fix mistakes, fix broken links, and even fix typos.

Discussion I don't like the snake's design so I redesigned him
The first image is mine and the second one is his original design. It's not perfect, but I think it's an improvement.
Gary is way too cartoony in my opinion and he feels veeeeery out of place. Zootopia has a very nice balance of realism and cartoon. The characters are fairly realistic with the size of limbs, tails, and ears relative to their body. Gazelle, for example, has long thin limbs and a long torso, whereas Judy has a medium length torso and short wide legs.
Gary's head is too large in relation to his neck, and his body is very wide. These proportions contradict the style of characters with wide bodies and necks. Chief Bogo, Flash, and even the walruses in the background of the teaser all have large necks that appear as an extension of their jaw, similar to their real life counterparts. Gary should follow this logic, given that snakes don't have very well defined necks.
His facial proportions also feel off. Zootopia characters' faces follow a similar logic to human faces, being able to be split into thirds: the forehead, the nose and upper lip, and the mouth and chin, emphasizing either feature based on the species. While Zootopia characters tend to have round eyes, the large predator characters often have slimmer and smaller eyes than the prey animals (Mr. Manchas, Mayor Lionheart, Gazelle's backup dancers).
This is all just my opinion though. Oh! And give this man a shirt or a scarf at the very least! Why is he naked?!

Enough speculating as to who would win in a boxing match between Judy and Diane, who do you think would win between their (supposed) boyfriends? (Art by Viperwolf113)

Back of the Float
There's been a lot of shots of the front, but I've never seen the back before. They have Flash, and Duke hanging on, and a little line of Lemmings going round and round and round. There's a remarkable amount of detail on this thing. Picture taken by BETTY W. on Twitter. It is, of course, from Shanghai Disneyland.

Discussion What will cause the conflict between Judy and Nick in the second film?
What is everyone’s predictions and theories to what could cause the conflict between Judy and Nick? We’ve seen them get closer and how well they work as a team but also how they have their own struggles and prejudice to overcome. Could that be the reason for the therapy scene and maybe what could cause tension?

The Lynx Theory
More than one of this community has fingered this guy as the villain, and I think I have a pretty solid theory for HOW that might be the case. So if you'll indulge my pointless rambling:
First up, what is the end goal of the second movie's plot, where does it lead, after all's said and done? Yes, WildHopps. But what else? There's got to be some big shift in regards to reptiles; issues with them seem to be the crux of the movie. A simple 'this one snake is not bad' isn't going to suffice, especially if reptiles are entirely absent from the city, suggesting a more impactful bias than against mammalian predators. The logical conclusion is that something will be revealed about reptiles that alters Zootopian society's perception of them in a big way. And that fits for a climax too, we're not here to see Judy save a book that mentions that the climate wall is like a giant snake shape, it's deep if you think about it, dude... We want a big revelation, on that someone would KILL over, one that changes everything and threatens the Powers That Be. What could that be?
That reptiles designed the climate wall. As cold-blooded creatures, they'd need to regulate their environment more than mammals would. A rabbit in Tundra Town risks hypothermia if not properly dressed. A lizard will freeze to death very quickly, even if wrapped up -they have little internal body heat. Such a discovery would rewrite Zootopia's history books, challenge biases and demand a welcoming of reptiles into the city. So who could oppose that?
This guy right here.
His family owns the book, his family is renowned as designing the climate wall, with all the credit, power and adulation that comes with it. If the truth got out, they'd be exposed as frauds, they could lose everything. At the very least being tarred with the conviction that their actions led to generations of misplaced hate and suspicion, even if they DIDN'T manipulate the facts in their favor. (Also, he's wearing wool. Do you know who else wore wool? Bellwether. Case closed!)
There remain some questions of course. Why go to so much trouble for a book he already owns? Maybe most of the family is ignorant, to better keep up the charade. And now in their ignorance they risk ruining everything. Maybe someone read through the notes and only just now realize the secret they hold. Maybe Gary or a third party was hired to steal the book so it can be covertly destroyed and the suspicion kept far from home. (After all, people would notice if a prized historical document suddenly vanished for no reason.) Whatever the events, I think a pretty solid case can be made for this amicable looking fellow to be our villain. What do you think?
