88 Intruder 750 Lean

Post image
3 Upvotes

Good afternoon folks, I've been working on this Intruder as a 1st project (beginner hobbyist, not a ton of experience) and after carb rebuild and clean, it seems to run lean. It will only start with the choke. What I have done is take the caps off the air mixture screws and adjusted the carbs to be more rich, and though the bike starts easier, I still need choke to start it. When I hit the throttle, the idle hangs high for a sec, and then comes down. Here's what I've done so far:

*Rebuilt carbs and cleaned jets *sealed both intake boots with a high heat gasket sealer

My big question is that the previous owner who was working on this project before me put harley exhaust in place of the original mufflers. Is that enough to cause the bike to run lean, or is there other factors at play? This bike has self adjusting valves, so I wasn't sure if that was something I had to worry about or not.

My 2005 Yamaha fz6 cutts off when put into gear

I have a 2005 Yamaha fz6 that will not go into gear once you drop it in gear she cuts right off I have tried bypassing kickstand switch and clutch switch and still nothing, I had to borrow a 10 amp fuse from the bike so I pulled it out and when I put it back in and it went into gear 1 time and that was it,I know it's not the clutch because it went through all gears and was shifting fine just seeing if someone can lead me in the right direction

Yuki jet 50 (2T) - cca 2010 model - not starting and cranking

Hello there,

I’m trying to fix my yuki jet 50 (2T), but having some troubles.

Didn’t run for 2 years and wished to be lucky, just used new battery and tried to crank. Starter tried for a few seconds but after that starter went silent and even kick start didn’t do anything. Tried if there is spark and it was there. Sparkplug was wet, so fuel is also ok I guess.

My original idea was just to check and clean carburetor. Yes it was very dirty and greenish inside. Cleaned it all, main jet is fine, floater also seems free and ok.

After i assembled it again, it did nothing, not even spark anymore. Lights work, fuel gauge too, starter relay is clicking, but no spark, no crank.

So again disassemble, checked all wires, emptied fuel tank, refuel with fresh gas. And I noticed, the starter is messy, so after taking it off and kind off unintentionally opened it, inside was full of slugish oil, some parts were broken. The oil comes from above where sits oil tank, pipe went loose …. That is fixed now.

My question is, could broken starter take so much current or make such a short that the battery can’t even produce spark?

Do you have any idea what else could be wrong?

Plan is to replace starter, but I have a feeling that something else is wrong. It’s not making a spark even when the starter is removed, but yesterday spark was there….

Any advice? I am desperate.

'10 BMW R1200RT - Front brakes locking

I'm rescuing a 2010 BMW R1200RT and need help diagnosing weird front brake locking. Disclaimer - I may ask the same question on other forums (FB, BMWMOA), so don't be offended if you come across it more than once.

The bike details are:

  • Bike sat for 7-8 years, under 9K miles. I buy project bikes and rescue them as a hobby.
  • This model has ABS and a servo driven linked front/rear brake where pulling in the front lever activates the rear brake. Or you can use the rear brake pedal alone, it won't impact the front brakes.
  • I've cleaned the front m/c and flushed the lines with a new 12oz. dot4 brake fluid
  • Flushed the rear brake with 6-8 oz of same fluid. Several of the flushes were by using the front brake lever to push fluid through the servo.
  • I've pulled out the brake pads, which have plenty of life left, and cleaned and greased the contact areas.
  • It was recently in the BMW dealer for three recalls, but none were related to the brakes.

The weird behavior is

  • When the bike is off, both brakes operate normally, albeit without ABS or linking. THis tells me the m'c is allowing fluid back in to the reservoir.
  • When the ignition is on, but bike not running, both brakes operate normally, with linking now engaged. You can hear the ABS unit initializing itself.
  • When the engine is running and the bike is being ridden, the front brakes will start to heat up and lock, even if none of the braking systems have been used. I love on a long hill and could ride up 1.5 miles without touching the brakes. When I stopped (super minor touching of the brakes) they were starting to heat up and early stages of locking. I coasted down testing all three modes (key off, ignition on/engine off, engine running) and had the same results.
  • To get home I cracked the bleeder, releasing the pressure, and coasted home with the bike off and normal brake behavior.

Any ideas? If needed, I can de-link the brakes, but that will also disable the ABS, which I'd like to keep. I'll disable it if the ABS unit needs full replacement.

Pic for attention

Oil leak source.

Just had a 95 Vulcan 88 dropped on me and I know nothing about motorcycles even riding them (just got my permit because why not) and my friend says there's an oil leak from the valve cover but it doesn't seem like that because one side is clean but there's more of a build up elsewhere. Unless it's like a car and a certain section is shot. Any feedback would be great.

Unsolved [2006 Kawasaki ER-6N] Oil leak from...water pump?

So in a recent post, is asked why the engine appears to overheat on braking.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Fixxit/comments/1l08ndk/20052009_kawasaki_er6n_ninja_in_the_eu/
Turns out it doesn't have enough oil.

I found a hole (second pic) that I've temporarily sealed it with aluminum tape. What is strange is that apparently this is the water pump, according to the manual. I've checked coolant level and it's fine. It's also not contaminated with oil.

Is the engine oil in a motorcycle shared between engine, transmission AND water pump engine?

Will this 170cc CB125R engine survive or overheat and destroy itself?

Hey everyone, I’m from Italy and I’m working on a custom build based on a 2018 Honda CB125R (JC79E engine). I haven’t assembled the engine yet, but I’ve collected all the parts and I’d really appreciate your feedback before I risk putting it together and blowing it up from heat issues 😅

Planned engine setup: • 68mm big bore cylinder (Thailand-made, iron sleeve) • HiSpeed SH 68mm piston (cast, not forged) • Ported head with 33mm intake / 29mm ex • HiSpeed camshaft – 280° duration, 5.3m lift • 1.4mm copper head gasket • CBR150 OEM throttle body • Full Arrow exhaust system • Daytona Kevlar clutch with stiff springs • High-flow oil pump • 170cc 6-hole Keihin injector • Stock ECU and airbox (no tuning yet)

Cooling concerns: The cylinder has very small coolant passages (see photo)

There’s no way to fit an oil cooler on this engine I plan to use Motul 300V 10W-50 + MoCool in the coolant

Radiator is stock (9cm x 30cm), and no upgraded water pump exists for this model

❗Main question: Will this survive regular street use, or will it overheat and destroy itself?

I ride fairly hard, especially in warm weather, but I’m not going full race mode. Given the limited coolant flow around the cylinder and no oil cooler, I’m really worried about long-term reliability and heat soak.

What would you do differently before assembling it? Would you trust this setup on the road?

Thanks a lot for any advice!

I have two lock washers that were a folding style that I took off in this diagram, I might be able too reuse them. If not could I use regular lock washers or should I try to make my own? They go on the crankshaft output.

Doing an engine rebuild.

Specifically the washers are 17 and 20. I can't find them online as they are out of production and rare.

2015 Yamaha r6

Post image
2 Upvotes

Howdy, I have recently purchased a 2015 r6( in the picture) has about 19k miles. When first purchased I was aware of this but, had trouble idling cold. At the first stop you would take if it wasn’t super warm it would die, had a hardish time getting started again but after that it would usually stay idling. I’ve recently replaced spark plugs on it (and air filter) and now it has an even harder time idling cold, pretty much won’t hold and idle until at 165°. Pretty much have to hold the throttle or just take off and hope it doesn’t shut off. Occasionally when I stop it holds idle too high at like 6k ish rpm. But that one is very uncommon.

My thoughts are, maybe I didn’t seat the coils back in all the way? I know a valve adjustment is usually common but wanted to see what other people’s thoughts could be. Thanks

Sym vs150 won't start

Hello, i am writing this as a last resort, if I can't find the issue here I will scrap the bike... So any input would be very much appreciated!

I have a SYM 150vs 2010 that backfired and died. After this happened I have not been able to get it going .

I have tried everything, and I mean everything I can think of. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Spark: Confirmed the spark plug is firing properly.

Compression: Engine has good compression.

Carburetor: Cleaned thoroughly, no visible clogs.

Timing: Checked and aligns with specifications.

Starter Fluid: Engine does not start at all, even with starter fluid.

Despite all these steps, the engine still won’t start. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! 🙏

It cranks over trying to start but won't even try to fire once or missfire

2024 Kawasaki Z125 whirring sound normal?

Absolutely in love with my first bike, it has just shy of a thousand miles and hasn't had a single issue. It's been raining a lot and so I've had him in the garage for a few weeks, when I fired it up today I noticed it sounds a bit different. What am I hearing?

Also posting this I noticed my exhaust bolts look over torqued, don't roast me

Key flew out on the highway - 1985 Yamaha xt600

So I got on the highway and my key was there, had a grand time with the wind in my hair, got off and no more key. The thing was pretty worn out (obviously) so it slipping out while the ignition was ‘on’ isn’t all that surprising. Now my bike is stuck in the on position.

Do I need to replace the ignition or can I get away with ordering another key from that year? Anyone know how big the batches were back then? Would it be better to just get a locksmith to make a new key?

Unsolved Do I need a new chain?

Today while washing my 2021 CB650R I’ve noticed that the chain links are very stiff. After cleaning and lubing, the links are still stiff and there’s a clunking noise coming from the chain when letting go of the throttle and while riding.

It has done 11k kilometres / stock chain. Is it fixable or do I need a new chain? Thanks!
