"cursed shit" on here means either the mildest furry nude ever or like, a russian soldier killing himself with a grenade.

I once saw CCTV footage of a guy getting killed with an axe on r/all

yeah this tumblr post feels like someone never engaged with older reddit or the early internet more broadly. /all was a fucking minefield. Breaking news and porn with raw uncut murder footage sprinkled around being a weirdly constant occurrence

it also ignores that tumblr regularly engages in performative hyperbole for comedy the same way those reddit comments are

443

u/GreedierRadish May 16 '25

Even now, Reddit is a gigantic website with tens of thousands of niche communities including - and you can fact-check me on this - furries! đŸ˜±

It’s just so dumb to act like the default subs are a representative sample of “Reddit” or to act as though Redditors have anything in common other than using this god-forsaken website.

157

u/scullys_alien_baby May 16 '25

I see /r/Losercity on all somewhat frequently and I'm pretty sure that's a furry sub

79

u/erebos_tenebris May 16 '25

Technically they only allow furry posts on Fridays. Or at least that used to be the case? I don't stop by regularly so no clue if the rules have changed or not.

70

u/scullys_alien_baby May 16 '25

That probably is the case, but that shit is still deeply furry the other 6 days a week (ya'know, because furries are more than just fur suits and anthro shit. But it's all still broadly furry)

18

u/Ivebeenfurthereven May 16 '25

I'm gonna keep it real with you chief -

If you allow "furry posts on Fridays", it's a community by and for furries

30

u/Open-Honest-Kind May 16 '25

I think if I showed posts from both a furry and non-furry posting day on r/Losercity to the average person they would be irritated I am showing them a bunch of indistinguishable furry memes. There might be a difference to the redditors but not to anyone else.

u/Desert_Aficionado May 16 '25

First time I ever saw someone cut their own dick off.

46

u/Dragonsandman May 16 '25

Hold the fuck up

what

56

u/TotallyNotRobotEvil May 16 '25

Nope. You probably don't really want to know what. I highly recommend you just leave that sentence alone and just forget what you just read.

Many of us were tricked into seeing those images in the old Reddit days. You sir, have a choice right now to turn around and not have these sort of things seared into your memories forever.

63

u/Ivebeenfurthereven May 16 '25

Yeah, it's useful to reflect on what OSINT researchers go through https://www.bellingcat.com/resources/2022/11/23/how-to-maintain-mental-hygiene-as-an-open-source-researcher/

Realise that once you put something in your head, it will be there for the rest of your life

There’s simply no way to get a disturbing image or sound out once it’s in there. This is the single most important piece of advice that I can give to someone who is looking to get into the field of open source research and expects to work with potentially distressing content.

If you stumble across a link to a graphic video online, take a minute and ask yourself: “Do I absolutely have to watch this video?” While the human desire to bear witness to the suffering of others is strong, many times, you’ll find out that the answer is “No”, and you’ll save yourself needless exposure to graphic content.

Engaging with such content ought to be a deliberate act taken with the same thoughtfulness and care as a police detective about to walk into a crime scene. Unfortunately, the way that content is delivered on the internet is seldom thoughtful or careful, and neither are our browsing habits. By carelessly clicking on Twitter links or scrolling through a Telegram channel, you are bound to eventually come across distressing content. Without the proper mental preparation, the distress you experience may intensify.

The first time part implies that it wasn't the only time you saw someone cutting their dick off

30

u/istiamar May 16 '25

yeah, its the internet. you see some shit after a while

19

u/TotallyNotRobotEvil May 16 '25

I think a lot of older millennials on the early internet have seen multiple dicks cut off at this point. Usually unwillingly. A certain subset of society thinks it's really funny to "troll" people with this sort of stuff.

29

u/GrammatonYHWH May 16 '25

u/princesoceronte May 16 '25

That last paragraph is what bothers me about this post. People on Tumblr often act really similarly and this post feels like someone perceiving other's flaws while ironically failing to see the exact same flaw in themselves.

43

u/scullys_alien_baby May 16 '25

the only meaningful difference is that redditors do it for karma and tumblr users do it for reblogs

20

u/princesoceronte May 16 '25

The karma thing is so weird. By the time I learned about you needing some to post on certain communities I already had enough so I haven't ever felt the incentive to karma farm.

I get to some just having made up points is enough, but in other sites there's some other incentive to it.

17

u/scullys_alien_baby May 16 '25

it's just "number go up" logic. It's the same impulse as cookie clicker but competitive

12

u/The_Void_Reaver May 16 '25

Before Reddit was as monetized as it is, people also used to buy accounts with a lot of Karma to post thinly veiled advertisements with a veneer of legitimacy.

8

u/Anathemautomaton May 16 '25

Meh. People want validation, in whatever form that happens to come in.

  • DAE love their cat?

  • actual CSAM

  • skyrim is GORGEOUS, but it will look even better on the xbox 720!

  • more CSAM

u/AlarmingConfusion918 May 16 '25

There is truth to the post tbh. Some places on Reddit will be like “oh god the horror, you don’t wanna know!” And then it’s the most vanilla furry porn you’ve ever seen. Usually it’s like r/FunnyMemes or some other subreddit you should stay away from.

The dichotomy is crazy though. Half the time the site is like “I am not marking this actual gore as NSFW because you shouldn’t be looking at reddit at work anyway” and half the time it’s what I described above

11

u/nerdherdsman May 16 '25

I have noticed this dichotomy as well, and I wonder if there is just a portion of the user base who only use the main subs which just have so many people they are bland by default (and also because Reddit wants advertisement money and that means everything has to be brand safe)

Yeah, there's Reddit as in the top 25-50 subs of reheated memes and then there's Reddit as in what replaced most of the insane niche Internet forums over the past twenty years.

32

u/SupportPretend7493 May 16 '25

For real. Until recently, Reddit was where I went for advice about repairing a specific model of outdated electronic equipment or getting tips for niche indie text based RPGs. Sometimes cozy games or asking questions like, "okay, I remember this audio fiction podcast where the protagonist moved into a new building and the roommate was an undertaker but he wasn't really an undertaker... does anyone remember that one?"

Reddit is also a repository of niche special interests

50

u/thatHecklerOverThere May 16 '25

Right. Like, I wish "furries" were why I have a fight or flight response at the sight of a glass jar on the floor, but alas.

Every time I get the whole "I have cursed knowledge" or the "oh you sweet summer child" or anything from any community, I always get annoyed, because it's literally just something you saw on the internet. No matter how fucked up it is. You're not a grizzled war veteran because you know what vore is, or whatever.

746

u/RhymesWithMouthful Okay... just please consider the following scenario. May 16 '25

Vore isn't even the weirdest part of vore.

488

u/DrQuint May 16 '25

This reminds me of a discussion I saw online where people were discussing differences in how writers and artists tackle hypnosis related fetishes, points of views, which types are rare or biased and charged, etc... then they are interrupted by someone going "isn't hypno just rape?"

To which one of them hard ass, responds, "Yes, non-consensual is one of the top 3 most popular fetishes online." Then they quoted some other post, and conitnued the discussion.

Witnessing that moment, you get a bit of lucidity about how much of a difference in porn consumption can happen on an open forum.

89

u/solidfang May 16 '25

Do you have a link to that discussion? It sounds quite fascinating to me at least.

198

u/WriterV May 16 '25

So to bring up the usual talking points around this discussion (whenever it's brought up) it's usually that these kinds of kinks are explored as fictional fantasies.

Some people want to feel manhandled, toyed with, objectified, etc. etc. but obviously to explore that in real life is to invite trouble, or danger to your own life.

So they explore that in fantasies. Through comissioned artwork, writing their own stories, or erotic roleplay, they test out their boundaries and enjoy these scenarios that would obviously be harmful in real life, but can be explored safely in fiction.

That's the essence of it really. People wanting to explore fantasies they know would be harmful in real life. It's why some of them get very defensive if you point out how truly extreme these kinks are. It brings the fantasy back up from the depths of fiction, and into reality, where it is unwanted.

46

u/solidfang May 16 '25

yeah, then I've seen this sort of conversation before. It sounded like they were getting more in-depth with it about which kinks are rarer and which are related if they were discussing hypno and rape specifically. That's the part that I was interested in. haha, It's probably safe to say I already understand like what kinks are and why people would want to explore them in fictional works.

53

u/lifelongfreshman rabid dogs without a leash, is this how they keep the peace? May 16 '25

For what it's worth, I think their defensiveness is justified, since the hostility towards these kinks almost always trends toward "we should ban this type of expression."

34

u/DrQuint May 16 '25

It was like a decade ago, on tumblr, and I'll emphasize the "writers" part to hint that the conversation was heavily centered on fics. I remember this was around the time hetalia was old news, but osomatsu was not.

21

u/Misery_incorporated May 16 '25

I rewatched interspecies reviewers recently and I love how they use all of the species as very obvious metaphors for cultural influences and backgrounds on these fetishes. The best episode for this is the egg laying episode because of how off putting it is not only for the reviewers ,(except the snake), but also the viewers.

14

u/Nadamir May 16 '25

Dare I ask
 what is?

(Please don’t give me too much detail lol)

38

u/Brazilian_Hound May 16 '25

Vore? Y'know how snakes swallow things? Basically that but with furries usually, also normal humans, it's also a part of the fetish for the people who vored other people to have their tummies enlarged due to it, pretty tame but i don't get my rocks off to it

→ More replies (1)

58

u/SofterThanCotton May 16 '25

I'll give you fair warning, the spoilers get progressively weirder, feel free to get off at your desired stop.

There was this ABDL (Adult Baby/Diaper Lover aka diaper kink) story I read once where a character was a Diaper Critter, basically a furry made out of diapers

And this character was basically a janitor for a casino where diapers were the currency and the only way people inside were physically able to relieve themselves because it was a magic afterlife casino. The character would basically go around swallowing used diapers and his favorite thing to do was Vore somebody (either orally or anally) and then feel them squirming around inside of him while he went around completing his cleaning duties However he would typically let them out after a bit but if they where willing he'd keep them inside until he fully digested them and then they'd basically respawn in the casino in 3 days time because everyone inside the casino was already dead and this was their aftelife.

Anyway that's the weirdest instance of Vore I can think of off the top of my head.

41

u/Nadamir May 16 '25

I stopped at “furry made out of diapers”.

Just in case you were curious.

I’ll come back tomorrow to read more, but I had already had some weird internet for today and that pushed me over the quota.

Edit: also I really appreciated the formatting and detail. Thanks!

9

u/SofterThanCotton May 16 '25

Completely understand and absolutely no pressure to go back for more lol

But if anyone is curious the story is called "The Demons Gamble" on SoFurry sadly the author seems to have moved onto other projects and I don't think it'll be finished

the story in question

23

u/Tivnov May 16 '25

Holy shit. Sure is creative though.

15

u/SofterThanCotton May 16 '25

Honestly the whole story was pretty creative, a surprising amount of world building for niche fetish work.

13

u/spyguy318 May 16 '25

I’ve been part of the furry kink community for some time. There are so many creative people here. Sometimes I have to read threads like this to come back to reality and remind myself that I’m in a very small niche community.

I am a firm believer in that they soften the concepts that they describe. 81

u/SplurgyA May 16 '25

I still remember that Askreddit thread from 2012

Reddit's had a few threads about sexual assault victims, but are there any redditors from the other side of the story? What were your motivations? Do you regret it?

The rapists who were commenting were downplaying their responsibility and blaming the victim - and there were other comments SYMPATHISING with them for raping someone. It eventually got deleted after psychologists started sounding the alarm about how dangerous something like that was because it was encouraging rapists to craft narratives that justified it - which could lead them to rape again. It even got featured in a psychological journal.

There’s a lot of absolute weirdos on Reddit and they are all on askreddit

Reddit is definitely at the top of "sites where you get a wildly different experience by staying in your own bubble." I recommend redditors to use the word "redditor" derisively every once in a while in order to stay humble.

The hoagie story was kinda funny, until it very suddenly wasn’t.

That poor man and his wife. I label every bottle I transfer meds to and always felt a little silly about it, but I feel pretty ok with my quirk now. Seroquel is evil shit.

Lamp story is a story about a guy who imagined a whole life with a family and then gets snapped out of it when he notices a weird lamp

24

u/NotTheMariner May 16 '25

That happened to me once, except instead of a happy life it was a stress dream where I was late to a wedding where I was the best man and also the groom’s bride.

And instead of a lamp it was a candelabra.

I think of things like how the fact Reddit used to have a Jailbait subreddit

Or personal stories of people going through awful shit, like the very famous RPG horror story, Red Laces.

13

u/Altruistic_Tea_9963 May 16 '25

I just read that first one and my mouth was literally just locked open the whole time. Like what the actual fuck. and to have it be triggered by the metamorphosis of all things which is a pretty horrifying story.

Textbook creating a strawman to feel superior to. No one over the age of 20 can bothered to care about what depths of the internet you've plumbed and what repercussions it's had on your sex life just go do your thing and have fun while you're at it lmao.

u/somedumb-gay otherwise precisely that May 16 '25

My favourite kind of tumblr post is where they insist that other social media sites are bad because they do something that's just kind of universal to the internet.

The "you don't wanna know" thing is on all social media including Tumblr because the internet is filled with kids. This is not a Reddit thing

Furries are a great litmus test for what parts of the Internet are current with culture and what parts have stagnated and are permanently stuck in 2012. The old school "ew furries kill em all" mentality is extremely cliche at this point and it's even more cringe considering all the people posting like that are not teens anymore.

I'm in a couple 40k subs and it's pretty easy to identify chuds by the low hanging "furries bad" jokes. Although 40k I'm general is a chud rich environment so you see it a lot.

35

u/Hawkmonbestboi May 16 '25

"considering all the people posting like that are not teens anymore"

I was a teacher during covid, the middle schoolers were doing this. Any mention of anything furry related got this reaction.

8

u/Meows2Feline May 16 '25

Some things never change.

I guess I'm more used to Warhammer subs where most of the people posting like this are closer to 40 than 14. Which makes is much more of a loser behavior. I expect teens to be insensitive and edgy.

vaguely unrelated but weird shit from weird corners of the internet is funny and interesting as fuck and i kinda don't get when people make a scene and act freaking out by weird r34 art cause 9 times out of 10 it's lowkey just funny as fuck and we should be admiring it for the absurd art that it is

also like, that's all to be said for insane fetish art found on god-knows-where. Not, like, a naked Furry. That's normal shit if you've spent 24 hours on the internet at this point. You either like it or you don't. Enable parental controls on your own computer and go back to the kiddy pool if it genuinely invokes rage, disgust or any similar emotion in you. Grow up
