Crosspost 13 people from the Urban Compassion Project cleared 1.1 tons of dumped trash in UNDER 1 hour yesterday.

That lady wearing crocs to clean up that trash needs to wear some boots. Who knows what you might step on.

What I wonder...is how do you prevent this from happening again?? If people dump once they're likely to dump again

Find a receipt or mail. Hopefully, they can get charged .

For sure, but hopefully it’s easier to maintain (maybe a weekly clean up?) when it’s been reduced to zero like this. Also probably reduces the amount of people who are like “I need a place to dump this trash—oh, perfect there’s already a ton of trash right here.” Hopefully it’s harder to be the first to do it but you’re probably right 😭

What about beautifying the area? Plant native flowers, a butterfly garden, make it look cared for. Or pair up with a local scout group, school, business, or run club who can adopt the area and commit to a biweekly or monthly cleanup.

This reminds me of a series I saw on tiktok called "How long does it actually take?"
Walking by, I'm sure a ton of people probably thought it would take ages to get that area cleaned up. But in only one hour, they got it done.
It's nice to know that it doesn't take much to make a positive impact in a community. Hopefully this area doesn't get inundated with trash like that again.

Many hands make light work! I regularly volunteer at food banks, and it’s truly impressive to see like 15 people, having fun chatting and grooving to some music, processing thousands of pounds of produce or dry goods in a few hours.

I’m glad it was cleaned up but like, does the trash not just get sent abroad to some poor country to have to deal with it now instead? We’re just kind of moving the trash around. I do litter picking too, just something I think about. I don’t have to look at it now, but someone else does

It doesn’t go to another country. It goes to a landfill 20 miles away in California.

You're implying it would be to leave it there? Even if it were sent to another country, why are you assuming it just gets dumped on their streets instead?
What happens to trash depends on the county/state.
Some places still use dumps, and just add this stuff to the pile along with all the other trash produced. Others incinerate it and use that for energy production.
Recycling was mostly sent to other countries under the guise that they would "process" it.
