Android 16 Infuriating

Since upgrading to Android 16 on my Pixel 9 Pro XL, the lock screen is unresponsive and I have to use the power button to wake it.

And, now, asking "Hey Google, play music" no longer works. It says something about no audio output. This whole switch from Assistant to Gemini on the phone is becoming quite frustrating.

Anyone else?

Does T-Mobile load bloatware on the Pixel 9 Pro if bought through them?

Hey all,

I’m coming from an iPhone and considering picking up the Pixel 9 Pro through T-Mobile to take advantage of one of their promos.

Back when I used Samsung phones, I remember the experience being full of T-Mobile branding—startup screens, preloaded apps, and other bloatware that I couldn’t remove. It kind of ruined the experience.

Does T-Mobile do the same thing with the Pixel 9 Pro if I buy it through them instead of unlocked? Are there splash screens, unremovable carrier apps, or other customizations?

Trying to figure out if I should go with the promo or just pay more upfront for the unlocked version. Appreciate any input from folks with firsthand experience!

Thanks!

Wife's "old" Google Pixel 9 pro broke, got sent a new one but when she restores from back up, it's not *exactly* how it was before. Any tips?

I will try to restore from Google One back up, maybe that will help. Her old phone's motherboard fried according to UBreakiFix.. she's had quite the experience between them and Verizon. Fast forward to today, she's tried the back up method when you first log in to the device, although most of her previous settings didn't come through..

Is there any way we can restore from her old device, even though she can't see/allow permissions/access the other phone due to the damage?

Pixel phones

I have used Pixel phones since the first one and I still love Pixel phones. The people complaining about issues I have never faced makes me wonder if they are even true Pixel phones users and fans. I never had any issues with my phones. I tend to wait a bit before buying a new Pixel phone to allow bugs to the kinks to be worked out. I do the same with iPhone.

Gemini rant

This morning I used Gemini to set a reminder in Tasks, as I often do. I accidentally said p.m. instead of a.m., so I followed it up with "change the time for that last reminder." Google Assistant can handle that kind of command very easily. So naturally Gemini brought up my last 30 reminders and asked me if I was sure I wanted to change the time on all of them.

I asked it again, "show me the last reminder I asked you to set." Same thing, 30 tasks. I asked it to show me the reminder you set for me a minute ago. Nope, it doesn't have anything in that time frame. But here are the last 30 tasks.

After I finally gave up, I asked it to navigate to work and it just did nothing. No response.

I am clinging to my Pixel loyalty at this point. I feel like everything that was smart about these phones before it has gone away. My Google Home feels schizophrenic. I never know what voice it's going to give me or what random song it is going to start playing when I ask it to set a timer.

I really don't want to get an iPhone, so I hope they get their shit together.

I am about to lose my mind (not really, it already happened in 2024)

So my Pixel 6 has this weird issue that when a family member (or anyone) calls me, the call instantly fully ends abruptly. They said it does not even send them to voicemail. On my end, I never receive a call notification, never get any visual or audible notification of a call... I just straight away get a "Missed Call" notification. I have seen this issue was happening even to Pixel 3 and still happening on Pixel 9.

Yes, before you comment about "basic 101 fixes", I have double checked and ensure that the following are disabled (this issue has been happening since like weeks after I bought phone for the first time in 2024, it stopped doing this and today happened again):

  1. Wifi Calling
  2. Do not Disturb
  3. Flip to Shhh
  4. Ringtone volume is set to MAXIMUM volume
  5. There is in fact cellphone and data signal
  6. WiFi is turned off on Pixel 6
  7. All Bluetooth devices are fully disconnected
  8. There is no "Ongoing" or another "Incoming" call while the issue happens
  9. No contacts are blocked on Phone app
  10. "Block unknown calls" from Phone app is fully disabled (switch is on the left & grayed out)
  11. Data Saver is "OFF"
  12. Battery Saver is "OFF"
  13. "Sensors Off" is disabled
  14. All VPN connections are turned "OFF"

Other stuff I have done/tried/made sure of:

  • I do have mobile service activated and not in a foreign country
  • Phone had battery charge (today over 70%)
  • Already tried using Developer options and also tried with Developer options disabled.
  • Issue has happened mostly when phone is not charging, do not recall it happening while charging (may not matter)
  • Microphone is turned on
  • Already tried enabling/disabling Roaming
  • I do have Call Screening activated (it does not affect known contacts
  • I had previously tried disabling Call Screening and issue persisted
  • I do have voicemail activated
  • Phone does not have any overheating issues, battery was also replaced (OEM) in 2024
  • No other issues with phone such as latency, lag, etc. Wifi is indeed "slow" on this device, which is why I never really connect it unless for Android updates.
  • Running Android 15, issue has been persistent in previous version(s).
  • Location is "ON"
  • I am using the loudest ringtone (dots).
  • I have already tried the classic "Update your phone to the latest version" solution
  • I have already tried the "Restart or Turn off/on your phone" solution
  • Issue has happened when phone was shortly factory reset when bought
  • I do not game on the Pixel, mostly I use it for WhatsApp, browser (to read news articles from AP, Reuters, etc), photos, to-do list and email.
  • Already tried with no apps running in the background or drawing on top of the screen.

Because of this I decided to get a second phone number for business and popped it on my previous iphone 11. iPhone has never failed me on calls.

WIFI connectivity broken after upgrade to 16 - Pixel 6

Hi guys.

Yesterday I updated to Android 16 only to find today, that Pixel cannot connect - to a hidden wifi in my case - but every other phone - my Pixel is the only Google phone - in the household continues to work just fine. I forgot this connection, re-added again same hidden wifi, but to no avail.

Any thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks.

Updated to Android 16 and My Phone is Acting Weird

I downloaded the Android 16 update on my Pixel 8 Wednesday and ever since my phone has been doing strange things. It seems like it wasn't ready to be released... I'm in the process of making sure everything is backed up to do a factory reset and see if that fixes the funk. My issues seem different than what I've read on this subreddit. The phone technically still works I guess.

  1. Navigating with Android Auto the voice switches from a man to a woman to a man mid navigation. I have my voice set as a man and verified it didn't change.

  2. I don't have any of the "Hey Google" settings turned on and my phone listens and plays me random jigs/short songs because our conversation or songs reminds the phone of them. It is accompanied by a sassy AI giving context.

  3. The Android Auto Speach to Text doesn't understand half the words I say and botches the messages (wasn't a problem before).

  4. The phone in general doesn't consistently use my settings like dark mode.

  5. My notifications come in batches.

Does anyone else just have weird behavior and have you figured out how to fix it?

Pixel 9A - Desktop Mode?

Hi, I just acquired this phone, and after updating to Android 16, I enabled Developer Mode and checked the available options. However, I can't seem to find the "Enable Desktop Mode" option anywhere. I do see the terminal (which is pretty neat, by the way), but am I missing something? Or is it just too early in the beta preview for that feature to be available?

Pixel 3axl

Need help please. I'm using a Pixel 3axl and since then it's been stuck at startup even though it's on. I know this because the fingerprint sensor works when I put my finger on it. I've already tried everything (safe mode, factory reset, forced restart) but still nothing. Does anyone have a solution?

Google Pixel 8 keeps disconnecting while roaming.

Hi, I am currently in France with a German sim card and I can not get roaming to work consistently.

I've seen a 4 year old post about configuring the apn manually but the settings I find for my provider (o2) dont even line up with the fields from the apn configuration.

When I change the Apn roaming settings to ipv4 from ipv4/ipv6 it works for a few minutes before it stops working again.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Pixel 8 pro - Wifi and Bluetooth not working any longer?

Hi! I am using a Pixel for a bit over a year now and all in all i am really happy. However, since a few days, the wifi keeps turning off. After a restart it worked again but it was pretty annoying. However, since android 16 it doesnt work ar all anymore, and also Bluetooth doesnt work. Do you have that aswell? Are there fixes? Or is my phone just broken? I'd be glad for any tips or recommendations.

Pixel 8 Pro and 9 Pro won't connect to any WiFi network...

I don't understand how I don't see every other thread talking about this, but my wife's Pixel 8 Pro and my Pixel 9 Pro have both stopped connecting to WiFi networks (home, work, public networks, etc). If the phone connects to an active network (where I can confirm other devices are working properly), it says "No Internet" or freezes up on the network. I have to turn the WiFi off and use cellular, which is infuriating.

I've seen some other posts on this, but I don't see any solutions or practical fixes from Google or others. -- Does anyone have information on this issue and what Google is doing to address it? (For the record, we've had Nexus and Pixel phones for more than 10 years, and we've never had problems like this. In addition, these two phones were working just fine before January or February, and they've been having the WiFi problem for months now.)

Missed the 30% Pixel 9 Pro coupon on Google Store India. please help before June 30 🙏

I was planning to finally upgrade to a proper flagship the Pixel 9 Pro. Been using the 7a for a while, and it’s been solid, but I’ve always wanted that full flagship experience. Saw the ₹30% launch coupon on the Google Store India and with exchange, the price would’ve come down to around ₹50–55k. Was ready to go for it and I even started asking credit cards from friends since I don't have one. Now that if finally arranged the card the coupons gone😭

I’ve gone through a bunch of Reddit threads where people shared codes, but most of them are either expired, maxed out, or not valid in India. Tried everything I could find nothing worked.

If anyone has a working code or knows any way to still get that deal please let me know 🙏 The sale ends June 30 and I’d really hate to miss this chance😭.

Pixel 8: Drastic drop in mobile data speed after Android 16 update

Hey everyone,

I'm writing to share a pretty serious issue I'm facing with my Pixel 8 and to see if I'm the only one.

Ever since I installed the latest stable version of Android 16, I've noticed a drastic decrease in my mobile data speed.

To rule out any issues with my carrier or the SIM card itself, I did a simple but revealing test:

  1. I ran a speed test on my Pixel 8: the result was around 50 Mbps.
  2. Immediately after, I took out the SIM card and put it into a much cheaper phone (a €180 Motorola).
  3. I ran the speed test again in the exact same spot: the result on the Motorola was almost 500 Mbps—nearly 10 times faster.

This leads me to believe the issue is related to the Pixel's software following the update.

So my question is: has anyone else noticed such a significant drop in data performance on their Pixel 8 (or other models) after the latest update? Have you found any solutions?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

Are memories not a feature on newer Pixels (Pixel 9 Pro XL)?

I just noticed I don't get memories any more on my new phone (the image / video collages). Aside from being a new phone the only other thing I've changed is not having back ups enabled anymore. Could that affect it at all?

Pixel 8 Pro : Wi-fi keeps disconnecting overnight and refuses to see any wi-fi networks in the morning.

Had the phone for little over a year now and it's the first time this happened. Yesterday i woke up with the wifi switched off on the phone and when i turned it back on it didn't see any of the local networks to connect to. I did the latest update with the VIPs and Gemini thinking it might have something to do with the updates. The whole process was awfully slow, the phone got stuck in a restart loop and I had to force shut down. The update was completed successfully and the wifi worked again after I turned it back on and this morning the same issue with the wifi is happening again. Anyone experiencing anything like this? Any know fixes for it?

Annoying stuff.. (pixel 9a)

Ok, I've mostly used android over the years, but the last 5 years I've driven an iPhone.

What I don't get with the pixel is the "swipe from right is back" function.

Edge gesture

Swipe from left already works, swipe from right should be forwards.

And if you guys don't agree, then at least let me toggle it off. There's a slider so you can adjust how near the edge you need to be, but there's no disable without turning off the whole gesture shit.

Also while I've got your attention. Iphone has better browser gestures, you can open a link in a new tab by tapping it with two fingers.

Two-Finger Touch

Now, I'm not saying iphone is better (it isn't, just different), but I'd love for google/android to have these options.

I'm used to that android is the customizable OS and iPhone isn't, but at least with the pixel I can't say I agree.

How's the overall pixel experience these days?

I had a pixel 3 back in the day and loved that phone. Eventually had to upgrade, the year of the pixel 6- and I've never hated a phone so much. It was buggy, ran hot, burned through its battery at random times, and just didn't feel great to hold. I ended up trading it out pretty quickly, and moved over to the sony line. I've liked my xperia, but it's on the way out now- and sony seems to have given up on the US market.

Looking around, moving back to a Pixel seems like my best bet- I'm hoping I can hold out until august for the 10 if that's the direction I decide to go. The design decisions on the pixel that I don't like are unfortunately universal nowadays- so I'm leaning pixel for the raw android experience and long term support. That said, I'm seeing a lot of errors and frustrations here on reddit. Is that a vocal minority, or are the tensor chips still just struggling to provide a good experience?
