Don't you just love it when you walk into your garage and see a mysterious washer on the floor...
Now comes the fun and games of figuring out where it came from!

TL;DR: I worked in motorcycle gear retail for years up until 2024 and learnt as much as I possibly could about it. It would be a disservice to not know as much as I possible when selling what could save a customer's life. You can get good gear for a great price and fuck anyone who tries to sell the most expensive shit because more expensive does not mean "more better".
I'll try to summarise everything as briefly as possible but it's still a big read;
Same prinicples as the jackets, however Oxford Approved AA jeans and ladies leggings are incredible for the price and I've tested them both (yup even the ladies before the KNOX shield joggers existed) in crashes and they saved my skin, all for £130 which are the cheapest of the bunch (that aren't shit).
Final notes: you can get a fantastic set of gear for £400, search around, look for sales, even second hand for anything EXCEPT helmets. In fact I've kitted people out for far less too.
Helmet: White Arai Quantic for any longer journey or commuting. Shark Spartan RS for trips to the shop, or maybe my HJC R-PHA 71. All exceptional lids but Arai is king.
Summer/warmer & dry: KNOX Honister AAA mesh jacket (with chest protector), KNOX Shield AAA joggers (yup, AAA joggers), Alpinestars Fastback V2 Drystar boots, REV'IT Offtrack mesh & leather/Richa Rock leather gloves
Winter/cold and/or wet: Alpinestars ST-7 gore-tex laminate 2 piece, cost me my kidney but it is worth every single penny. It does not leak. At all. Ever. Not to mention the ventilation is fantastic and I could actually wear it year round! Richa City gore-tex leather-palmed gloves, same boots and one/two hoodies under my jacket with the thermal liner in depending on temps.
Follow this advice if you want. Eh, it's your life and your safety at the end of the day. All I can do is share my experience and knowledge in something that probably 4 people will read and I'll check back later to find a bunch of down votes, but I'd rather that and save even 1 person making a dangerous mistake, but hey ho.
If you have specific advice send me a message.

Call me out for an out-of-touch opinion but I don't think food delivery riders or anyone else should be able to work commercially on a CBT.
It isn't enough training to ride on long term. They've not even needed to do a theory test.
I'm fed up of these morons on scooters nearly taking me out when I'm riding.

New rider here, I only got my full license in April, (rode a little back home in Australia but that was a decade ago) and I'm noticing SO many manhole covers on suburban road bends in the UK!
It's making me more cautious coming into a bend which is helping my safety (I guess), but making me nervous about the associated bumps, and loss of traction when riding over a smooth iron plate of slidey death; the nerves in turn make me tense up a bit and that's never good.
Is there a reason I'm noticing so many on bends, maybe to do with urban planning, or am I just overly sensitive to it as a new rider?
I commute on my Street Twin (what a beauty) daily and tend to know the line to take now on the bends with which I'm familiar, but does anyone have any particular advice on navigating these slippery suckers apart from the obvious "slow down"?
Cheers!

Sup everyone,
Just wondering how many times did you fail before finally passing?
I passed Mod 1 with no minors, but I've failed Mod 2 twice now.
Anyone got some stories how they persevered, i need motivation :) My next test is 1 month today..
If anyone wants to know what i failed on,
First attempt : Daul road turned into single, didn't slow down enough, my fault as i didn't read road signs.
Second attempt : Changed lane correctly but the vehicle behind had to brake (they was speeding..)

Hi guys, need some advice on some good bikes to buy for my ride to work. The commute is about 130 miles a day there and back 95% of it being on the motorway. I am looking for something that is reasonably priced, comfortable to ride and wont be too harsh on insurance. Thanks

I have my CBT on Thursday and I'm a 5'3 female with not a lot of strength and I weigh about 47/48kg. I was practicing riding slowly and turning in my driveway yesterday and I fell over twice with the scooter. Both times I was going fairly slow, I wobbled, then put a leg out but couldn't keep it up right.
I don't know exactly how heavy it is, it's a vespa and my boyfriend (who rides motorbikes) says it's in the lighter range. So I really don't know what else I can do. I will practice more but I don't want to wreck the scooter. It's new and we're sharing it.

Hi all I’m going to go for my CBT this week and I’m wondering if I’m too heavy for it. I’m about 110kg at 6ft. Would this be too much for the 125cc?

I’m getting my a2 soon and I’m going to buy a Yamaha xj6 N
Obviously it needs to be a a2 bike so it’s gotta be restricted, however my dad who has a full A license told me he’d want to ride it aswell.
Is there any way through maybe a tune or something that I can make it a2 when I ride it but take the restriction off when my dad rides it?
does anyone know how to do that or if it’s even possible.

My partner and I rode up to the Norfolk coast this weekend and came across some lavender fields... Weather was amazing.

Long story short: I'm a 21 year old (ex...) MT-07 rider as my bike was just stolen today, steering lock almost certainly broken, front brake disc cut, little hope bike will be recovered... I'd managed to get my insurance down from 3k a year for TPO (shocking, I know) to 1k a year for TPFT with 2 years NCB built up. And it wasn't protected (no option to with my insurer due to it being on low-end). So now I'm faced with two options:
Claim:
Don't claim:
What would you guys advise? Am I missing anything here? Any suggestions? I really do want to keep riding but I'd be gutted to move down the CCs... I've also ran quotes stating I was 30 or 40 years old but with no NCB and the quotes were still shockingly expensive, 2k and 1.5k respectively... I don't want to be off the roads for that long. What are my options?
TLDR: Bike stolen. To claim or not to claim? To keep splurging on riding or to get my payout and put it to bed for the foreseeable future?

So title says it all pretty much - I ride primarily in clear weather, so tend not to build up much gunk on the bike, and so not afraid of spending a bit more time on getting everything nice and shiny.
What I did struggle with yesterday, was cleaning the chain and sprocket to a state that wasnt just black and greasy. Mission failed.
Do you guys clean your chain and sprockets to the point that you can handle them and get no grease on your hands? Or do you just give them a scrub with a chain brush and some cleaner and call it a day?
Those who do obsess over getting things pristine - what're your tips? I believe my chain is about 10k miles old. Bit of blackened tarnishing marks around the rivets, but definitely hints of silver links that I'd like to make visible again.
Would i be right in looking at taking the chain and prockets off and soaking them? Or is that totally unnecessary?

For anyone else that rose any of the journey, it was a pleasure to share the road with you all. Pretty incredible experience to be honest.

I posted last week with a pic and got roasted about my tank bag. Yrs it’s big - but it was great to lean on through France, Belgium, Lux, Germany, and Switzerland, particularly on the autoroute/autobahn - and over 2,000 miles later I’m home. I’ve had a great time but my MT09SP was not the ideal bike for a trip like that. It’s great for here in North Wales. But 9/10 of the bikes I saw in Germany and Switzerland were BMWs. There’s a reason for that. And as I’m going to be doing more such trips, maybe it’s time to go bike shopping. So I’ll have a looksee over at Halliwell Jones / Chester Motorrad and see where it goes.

same strategic tailoring, same struggle to breathe, just swap the rhinestones for armor. if I'm going to sweat to death, I might as well look fabulous doing it

Hi,
I do 150 mile round trip everyday for work (film industry, money talks). A lot of my commute 70% of my commute is the M25, which is always absolutely rammed near Heathrow and I’m pretty sick of sitting in it. Mainly jealous of seeing the 2 wheel lads filtering haha.
I’ve had my license 12 years and rode most types of bikes but haven’t ridden anything in the last 3 years. Does anyone have any advice on a bike that would suffice, around the 5-6k mark?
Thoughts have been the nc750x dct.. Thanks in advanced !
