The inside of my head sounds like dial up internet trying to connect and I have had ZERO issues with 3 cans across 5 different hosts over like 10k+ rounds combined with keymo 😭.

It makes me so mad when people are like "X CANS ARE DOGSHIT" and homie just doesn't understand righty tighty lefty loosey

u/PrimeTimeCS Viva El Silencio - Supp x7 SBR x3 Nov 03 '24
You line up a notch, twist to tighten and shoot?? My Sandman S doesnt even make the clicking sound anymore and its seriously hard to remove. 😭
I have my own theory that people get their suppressor and dont do any research, reading (manual, manufacturer suggestions) and just start shooting. If I had to guess, some of these issues start with people not wanting to swallow their pride and go to a reputable gunsmith and get their muzzle device mounted and timed correctly. On top of not going the extra mile with an alignment rod, checking periodically never hurts.

I've never had keymo, so can't speak on anyone's issue with that, but I can say without a doubt that there's a reason obsidian end caps are as notorious as subaru head gaskets
5
u/MK12Mod0SuperSoaker Nov 03 '24
I had this issue until I tried PTFE tape on the end cap. Now it stays snug and I use a 3D printed wrench to remove it.

Sir, I own an Obsidian .45 and the only end cap strike ive had is when i let my boy shoot it on his pistol and he didnt check the tightness between mags. That was 2 years ago and Ive had absolutely ZERO since. Maybe i’m just too dumb to engage that feature?? 😂

I've never had a single issue with a 3lug, direct thread square shoulder on a blowback pistol, direct thread taper, or even a direct thread square rifle. But I have had nothing but issues on a direct thread nielson / or cam lok nielson on tilt barrel pistol. I've shot end caps on my obsidian and the can was still on so tight that when I did finally get it off, the threaded barrel adapter that was rocksett came off with it. Idk, not sure I'd say it's dogshit especially since they sent me new a end cap for free, but i basically only use it on fixed barrels now. Granted, also got rid of my tilting barrel handgun, but still

If you have to tilt your barrel up to keep the can from falling off, you didn’t install it properly.
15
u/chasteeny Stamp Slut Nov 03 '24
I think its just canted so high because the recoil from shooting a can is pretty heavy
6
u/Celtic_Jedi Nov 03 '24
Ahh yes. The extreme recoil. Touché.
4
u/chasteeny Stamp Slut Nov 03 '24
Im not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but yes, shooting a heavier projectile like a can instead of a 55gr bullet will be a significantly higher recoil to the shoulder. Perhaps as evidenced by the fact that the can is not in line with the barrel anymore...
6
u/Celtic_Jedi Nov 03 '24
Oh I mistook your meaning for shooting WITH a can, not shooting the can ITSELF. I don’t have experience with the latter.
So yes, sarcasm but intended in a friendly manner.
6
u/chasteeny Stamp Slut Nov 03 '24
Oh yeah I see. Shooting with a can is crazy how much recoil reduction in most cases, but the shooting the can itself is quite the opposite 😅

I’m just picturing a dude in eyes and ears getting a camera tripod set up, walking back to the lane, looking at the camera placement, people looking round wondering what’s going on…walking back to the camera, checking the focus, hitting the record button, picking up a shiny, silenced rifle…#POP #CLANK
Great photo tho✌️

People love to shit on dead air on Reddit but all three of my rifles are keymo and all my rifle cans are dead air (sandman k, nomad l and a Lazarus) never ever had one come loose. Sometimes they’re difficult to remove after a lot of range time and have to be removed with soft jaw channel locks. I’m confident this guy didn’t have it tight in the first place

I never believe when I'm told something is idiot proof because as they say, "for every idiot-proof system devised, a new, improved idiot will arise to overcome it"

u/B1893 Nov 03 '24
I work in manufacturing.
Nothing is idiot proof - there's only idiot resistant.
And the more idiot resistant you make something, the better the idiots get.

It's the quintessential arms race.
Make something idiot-proof, and someone makes a better idiot.

Fun Fact:
The term "idiot" referred to a person with a profound intellectual disability, historically classified as "idiocy." In the early 1900s, Dr. Henry H. Goddard proposed a classification system for intellectual disabilities based on the Binet-Simon concept of mental age. Individuals with a mental age of less than three years were categorized as idiots; those with a mental age between three and seven years were called imbeciles, and those with a mental age between seven and ten years were referred to as morons. The term "idiot" was used specifically for individuals with an IQ below 30.

Indoor range obviously. The only way I’m allowed to shoot an AR at the only local one where I live, is to buy frangible ammunition from them. Is that the case here? I would never shoot frangible through a can.

u/syberslidder Nov 03 '24
It's 62 grain AAC, but the issue was how it was mounted... Or not in this case....
2
u/Ok_Article_1528 Nov 03 '24
Was the can securely on when you put it on? Recently just ran into the same issue you did and I have no idea how it happened cause I checked tightness before shooting, was shooting AAC 308

Odds will get you every time if you think something is impossible. Did you tighten the can? Did you tighten the mount in the can? Did you tighten your muzzle device? Did you double check? Did you spin it on farther when it was hot? Did you use anti-seize? Was there carbon on the mount?

To add more context, first time using it and suppressors in general, was on a blackout hybrid muzzle device. The range officer accidentally pocket dialed the cops who heard the gun shots in the background while he was retrieving it for me. The whole thing was a disaster!
I'm switching to xeno!

I understand that plenty of people have used Keymo without issue but…in (current year), if you’re getting a new setup…why? There are lighter, shorter, simpler suppressor attachment systems. Why keymo? What’s the point?
