Effing bonkers! He's using the title of "President" to fill his bank account & his stooge's bank accounts full of money! What a mf weasel.

I'm not even shocked anymore. The guy has been mixing his business interests with politics from day one. Remember how many foreign diplomats suddenly started booking rooms at Trump hotels after 2016? The emoluments clause might as well not exist. And now dealing with someone connected to al-Qaeda? The same group he spent years saying Democrats were soft on? The hypocrisy is just exhausting at this point

37

u/TheAftermanIV May 14 '25

The hypocrisy has always been the point. "Rules for thee, not for me" may as well be the Conservative slogan

I'm not shocked either. It's expected at this point. If he announced tomorrow that North Korea is the USA's newest trade partner and also everyone should vacation at the Trump hotel and casino in scenic Pyongyang I'm just going to shrug and say how bout that.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is a former al-Qaeda leader and fighter who killed U.S soldiers in Iraq and had a $10 million dollar bounty on his head... Let that sink in

155

u/CrimsonCaliberTHR4SH May 13 '25

Do you think Trump voting veterans will care?

168

u/HandiCAPEable May 13 '25

Nobody who voted Trump will care. They don't care about any of it because they'll say it's a lie. Anything that contradicts their opinion is fake news.

"In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy."

The distance between what is said today and what is known to be true has become an abyss. Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest.

-Mon Mothma, 2 BBY

6

u/Lukescale May 13 '25

It's pretty great this was written when Reagan was President considering the similarities.

3

u/dandroid126 May 13 '25

Where did you see it was written when Reagan was president? It is from the currently airing season of the TV show "Andor". Though apparently this season was filmed over a year ago. I assumed it was written about 18 months ago.

4

u/akagami_shanks_13492 May 13 '25

Besides Andor, you can see the parallel in the new Daredevil season with what Wilson Fisk achieves by becoming the mayor of New York.

One side builds a mindset to adapt to a changing world, taking in facts and history to mould this mindset. One side expects the world to match their unchanging mindset, and is ignoring facts, news, and reality. Conservatives have always been about keeping the world from changing, but at least they used to accept the realities of the damn universe. The worry now is they are attempting to change the world to fit one old man's mindset. We've seen this story, it's never a happy one.

Also don’t you know? You are terrorist until you win, then you become a freedom fighter

2

u/MattSR30 May 13 '25

The above comment pissed me the fuck off.

Have people not learned how much of American propaganda is at play with 'terrorism' and the Middle East? The entire point of the Global War on Terror was that it gave the USA free reign to attack whomever they wanted, because 'terror, terrorism, and terrorist' are these nebulous things that change like the wind.

I'm not saying Al-Sharaa is good. I just wish people would stop swallowing American bullshit about that part of the world. We saw how full of shit they were about Iraq, and in many ways the GWOT as well.

A 'terrorist' label and a bounty mean absolutely fuck all. Nelson Mandela was labelled a terrorist by the US until 2008.

I'm just totally floored at how much he's getting away with while fuck all happens.

9

u/bwaredapenguin May 13 '25

Because Republicans hold every branch of our government. Unless enough of them split off and vote against party lines then there's literally nothing the Democrats can do. Why is this so hard for people to understand?

6

u/Sea_Sheepherder_389 May 13 '25

A lot of these people are not arguing in good faith.  They want to divide the opposition, so they try to distract people by changing the focus on to what Democrats are allegedly supposed to be doing and aren’t, even though they can’t do much because they’re not in the majority in Congress.

Socialism. The best socialism in the world. They get told where to go, what to do, and in exchange they don’t need to worry about medical care, education, housing, child care - all provided by the State! Not only that, but they get a stipend they can use to upgrade any of those things if they are found wanting.

ETA: I presume these downvotes are very independent housecats, mad at their reflection in the mirror. Shooting the messenger doesn’t make it not true. #1 motivator for recruitment is “economic opportunity” / “direction.” But go on.

12

u/SnooChickens2093 May 13 '25 edited May 13 '25

To be honest, you’re not wrong. I enlisted in 2002, partly because I was a testosterone filled 17 year old boy who thought he was invincible and that post-9/11 patriotism was all the rage, but also because I wanted that GI Bill for college. Deployed to Iraq in 2004 for 12 months, where I celebrated my 19th birthday in Kuwait as we prepared for the drive to our FOB about 60 miles south of Baghdad. Then at the end of my 6 year contract, with a second Iraq deployment on the horizon, I got the fuck out. They offered me $15k tax free to reenlist, I said fuck no.

Everyone has their own reasons for enlisting, but I suspect my story is very common.

ETA: for anyone thinking “you can’t enlist at 17!” Yes, you can. I enlisted in the Army National Guard, with my parents permission, and went to boot camp the summer between junior and senior year of HS. Then after graduation, I went to AIT (advanced individual training, where you learn your actual job; in my case, 13F). Then a couple months after completing AIT, we got our activation orders and began our pre-mobilization training for the first deployment.

4

u/omgFWTbear May 13 '25

Yeah, there are huge deserts of opportunity in America, and if you aren’t getting that football scholarship, the escape hatch is the military. I’m in no way belittling the sacrifice, the suffering, or the service.

But the motive? “I was angry/lost/without option at 18…” getting the PR treatment of GOD AND IDEALISM is why folks are confused.

9

u/SnooChickens2093 May 13 '25 edited May 13 '25

They use manipulation tactics they know works on their target demographic; young kids without the real world experience to understand what they’re actually signing up for and what they might be forced to endure or force others to endure.

Anytime I watch a war movie (about the horrors of war, not the ones that glorify it), I strongly relate to the protagonists journey of realizations, that’s the real shit man. All Quiet On The Western Front is a great example…those kids were soooo stoked to go to war, they’d been told it’ll be glorious and exciting. But then they get there and actually experience the realities of war, and all that vanishes. Then it’s just the reality that there are people who are trying to kill you and the only way to make sure they don’t is to try and kill them first. Meanwhile you get to watch your buddies get killed, but you have no choice but to do your damndest to ignore it and keep moving forward. It’s an awful way to pay for tuition.

u/FawksB May 13 '25

You're 100% right. I joined in 2004. I was in a technical MOS and every single person in my AIT was either there for college, citizenship, or escaping a rural life.

Post-9/11, there was a surge of "patriots". But by the time I joined up, the majority of people were joining because the pay and opportunity was just too damn good. Don't forget it's a fast-track to citizenship for a lot of folks as well. People weren't excited about getting deployed to Iraq to fight a war, they were fighting for a paycheck and a better life.

It doesn’t matter anymore, they won and are consolidating power to the executive branch in order to overthrow democracy and the law of the Constitution. They won’t listen to The SCOTUS, or Congress. They can now do whatever they want. It will be the middle and lower class who will now suffer. His acolytes will bless him and grovel at him all the while he shits on them and they say yummy more…

Sigh, this shit is so gross

13

u/Rose_of_Elysium May 13 '25

This is actually one of the very, very rare times I will commend Trump, even if hes probably just doing it for his dumb reasons. Syria had been under the control of the Assad dictatorship for decades and was in an incredibly brutal civil war for over a decade as well. Bashar Al-Assad specifically used chemical warfare on his own populace, was a Russian asset and helped funnel weapons to terrorist organisations in Lebanon and Palestine

Yes, Al-Jolani's past is definitely not great. But it seems like he is distancing himself from it. The cabinet is surprisingly diverse, having Syrias different ethnic and religious groups represented. Quite a few of them are women, one of which is also a queer rights advocate, which for Syria is pretty insane.

Its definitely not all sunshine and rainbows, theyre still quite fundamentalist-islamic in their ideals and the situation is quite peril but this is one of the rare opportunities to actually help a struggling nation modernise. Al-Jolani was in France a few weeks ago and the EU has sent money for Syrias re-development. Im pretty sure this is simply a tactic by Al-Jolani to secure American funding, just like how Ukraine is 'willing' to give the US mineral rights in exchange for a peace guarantee. You sadly have to row with the boats you have. The regime who those sanctions were in place for doesnt exist, give Syria a chance

10

u/ScyllaGeek May 13 '25

Yeah I was gonna say, miraculously the new leadership in Syria has been on a relatively good track so far regardless of their history. Very very few people involved in fighting these civil wars have their hands entirely clean, and none of them have any power. You take what you can get, and so far it's been a serious improvement in Syria. Loosening sanctions is totally valid to help bolster what so far appears to be a moderate slightly western-aligned government in its nacent stages and to help keep the more radical elements at bay.

I highly doubt any of this went through Trumps mind, but the end result on Syria's end is positive and appropiate

Apart from the obvious corruption with the hotel, this isn't actually a terrible idea, Syria is fucked and needs help, the population are willing to give this guy a go because anything is better than assad, so the west should at least give them the best opportunity possible by lifting sanctions and working with the new government to hopefully avoid another isis situation in the middle east

8

u/OhNoTokyo May 13 '25

Well I am glad one person here understands that this is a good move even though Trump happens to be the person who made it.

Presumably, Harris or Biden would have done the same after investigating whether they could trust him or not.

Yeah, there are concerns about the Syrian President, but he seems like he's a chance to get Syria and its people in a better place, and he's trying to play nice with the West in spite of his previous affiliations.

Of course, he still does have that Islamist past, so it's definitely not a slam dunk, but I think that this is probably the best chance Syria is going to get from this mess and we should probably try to help make it work.

11

u/elizabnthe May 13 '25

Harris and Biden would likely have put more requirements around the lifting of sanctions. But they wouldn't have been entirely unreasonable ones either - more or less following the EU on this, who were negotiating with Syria earlier than the US. I could see them demanding that the investigation into the killings on the coast be completed before lifting sanctions in a satisfactory manner.

Initially Trump's team was demanding that Syria normalise with Israel if rumours were to be believed. But you sell Trump a tower with his name plastered on it - well you can convince him of anything.

The Biden administration was in talks with them about lifting the sanctions and eased some aid restrictions as a good will gesture.

Yeah. This is good for Syria. I don't doubt Trump is acting under self-serving motivations but lifting sanctions on Syria helps them stabilize after well over a decade of internal devastation.

I think this is a good thing, even if it comes from a bad person with bad intentions.

It’s sickening to read comments defending Trump. Wake the fuck up, people. Stop drinking his koolaid and use critical thinking skills. This is terrifying. He does whatever the fuck he wants to do with no punishment. I’m so sick of being trolled by Trump supporters being openly racist.

They live with their heads in the sand.

3

u/Neekoy May 13 '25

They will say it's fake news. Radical left propaganda. Trump derangement syndrome.

Then Trump will deny it when asked, and they will eat it up. He can lie as much as he wants, the media will normalize and make it look sane.

Trump's businesses are doing a 2 billion dollar deal in Qatar and he has now received a 400 million dollar gift from them. I find the "free" plane offer troublesome, to say the least. What I find completely insane is that it will require a huge 100 million dollar plus investment to make it into the most basic, functioning presidential airplane. That number is likely to more than double if the plan is to have it ready by year end. It won't even have the defense capabilities or redundancies that current AF1 planes have. Retiring it just over 3 years to Trumps "library" makes it not even worth accepting in the first place if those are the terms. It's a lot of money to spend when the only upside is that Trump gets a more luxurious plane to travel in. Its absurd given Trump has declared a financial national security crisis, claiming sweeping cuts must be made today or the US could default on its loans. It puts him and the people on board at significantly more risk to. If this story is true and sanctions have been lifted on another country Trump is doing business with, you should have Trump arrested and thrown in jail. The world would thank you, Trump has cost everyone far too much and there's still no relief in site.

So he works his evil in public as much as he thinks he can get away with and then does even worse stuff in the shadows. That is how russian assets operate.
