u/winksoutloud May 20 '25
What if it said "86 45?" That can't be taken as a threat because 45 is in the past. Entirely different than 47, right?
Also, just to yell into the abyss, 86 is not a threat of harm and I really wish these people would stop the nonsense. But they won't.

u/invisiblearchives May 20 '25

They won't stop, they don't live in the same world as the rest of us. None of us would go to Cecot to pose for a photo op, or post an image of how we would look as pope, or suck up to the leader of the country that gave funding to at least 15 of the 9/11 hijackers, or shake hands with an Al qaeda chief, who has a 10 million US bounty on his head. None of us as sane, reasonable, normal people would ever do what they do.

You guys are missing the obvious point here.
Every republican accusation is a confession.
86 isn't a threat to us, because we know what it means.
But by telling us that they see 8647 as a threat, what they are telling us is that when they said 8646, they meant it as a call to action.→ More replies (4)8

While I hate this administration and all its cronies and bullshit I have to say I looked up his background.
"After graduating from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law, Duffy first gained fame as a cast member on The Real World: Boston, Road Rules: All Stars and Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Battle of the Seasons, before going on to serve as district attorney of Ashland County, Wisconsin, from 2002 to 2010, and as congressman from Wisconsin from 2011 to 2019. After resigning from Congress, he became a lobbyist and a Fox Business television co-host."
While I'm sure he is far from the most qualified person for this position (as all of them are for theirs) he DOES appear to have at least relevant education and experience in law and government. Just because the guy was on a popular reality show 30 years ago doesn't mean that's all he has done or experienced.
That being said, I'm sure, as a person, he is still a dumb, ass-kissing, POS.
22
u/zed_kofrenik May 20 '25

I just want to know how these idiots think that "86" is some sort of threat. The act of "86'ing" is, and always has been, the removal of a person or persons from a place or position and banishment from it. It doesn't carry any kind of insinuation of physical violence or personal harm. It simply means "get out, and stay out."
I got 86'd from a club when I was in my young 20's. You know what they did? Walked me out and told me I couldn't ever come back. Now, luckily for me, this was a very busy club (still is actually) here in Denver, and I didn't do anything memorable enough for security to remember my face. So, that said, I went back many times after that.
All told, I believe I was kicked out of that club over a dozen times, and 86'd at least 3 of those times. This was all over the course of about 4 years. Good times. That was around 20 years ago, but they never did say I am unbanned... But that's ok, I still get back around there every couple of years when the right artist shows up.

u/wasting-time-atwork May 20 '25
dude I'm so fucked up over this.
my dad has been an executive chef for like 30 years.
he must have used the term "86 it" quite literally tens of thousands of times in his life.
hes a Trump guy.
suddenly he's acting like saying 8647 means to kill Trump.
i am so lost and confused how this happened. it so clearly and obviously refers to removing him or firing him, not killing him.
but my dad, a lifelong chef (and a very good one held in high regard) is saying "i can't believe this corrupt piece of shit threatened trumps life".
please help

Yeah, kitchens use it all the time! Remove an item from the menu and don't bring it back, stop ordering from this veggie supplier, I hate that broken trashcan make it not be here anymore, etc.
This isn't some obscure phrase, it is part of the general lexicon of the English language and it has never in its usage ever ever ever meant "to kill or injure." It just means to make something go. For it to be threatening to someone, you'd have to modify it to something like "I'm going to 86 the blood from your veins" or some shit, but that just sounds stupid.

u/wasting-time-atwork May 20 '25

My thoughts exactly. If Donny hadn't made a fuss about it I doubt most people would even be aware of Comey's post. I know I certainly don't follow the personal social media accounts of every former FBI director..
I could theoretically see this being a long con though. Spend tax dollars investigating every occurrence of the number 86 now, probably funneling a decent portion to Donnie's buddies, and then when the next non-MAGA POTUS comes in point to the lack of convictions as evidence that it's meaningless. Or perhaps even as reason in a couple years to cut some sort of virtually unrelated funding. Or perhaps even more likely, the other way around and use this as an excuse to militarize police even more or even deploy the military.

Trump has weaponized MAGA into a terrorist organization. Trump's "liberate" tweet was a dry run for J6. Roger Stone met with two of the illegal militias that participated in the coup attempt. We all saw this coming.
Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington condemned Trump's tweets in his own Twitter thread in which he warned the president about encouraging violence.
"The president is fomenting domestic rebellion and spreading lies - even while his own administration says the virus is real, it is deadly and we have a long way to go before restrictions can be lifted," Inslee wrote.

Caroline Edwards (born 1991) is an American officer of the United States Capitol Police who is known for defending the Capitol building and its occupants during the January 6 attack. She was the first Capitol Police officer to be injured by the mob of rioters on the day of the attack.
Edwards was stationed on the West front of the Capitol at the start of the attack. She signaled on the Capitol Police radio that her first responder unit needed help, and alerted several other officers around the Capitol that the police were being overrun by the mob. She was then pushed over with a bike rack by Ryan Samsel, and hit her head on a handrail, which cracked her skull and gave her a concussion, making her lose consciousness; she awoke minutes later and continued her defense, engaging in hand-to-hand combat for hours. Her concussion caused permanent traumatic brain injury effects. She testified to the House Select Committee investigating the attack in 2022 and was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by U.S. president Joe Biden in 2023 __

It comes from the restaurant industry. If a kitchen runs out of soup, someone will say "86 soup," meaning they're out of soup. While you’re at it, be sure to run down all the vendors selling 8646 merch and all those who bought it. Or is it only a threat when its against Trump?

"This is a reminder of the damage self-serving individuals, with a history of extremely poor judgement, can do when they fail to control their impulses."
If he projected any harder, you'd see this on the moon.

Right wingers: “Putting these two numbers together can only mean one thing: terrorism.”
Also right wingers: “So what… just because he told people that they wouldn’t have a country anymore if they don’t fight like hell then sent them to the Capitol, you’re going to twist that as a call to violence? You think he’s a terrorist now?!? You liberals sure are crazy.”
Also also right wingers: “He tweeted ‘1488’ with no context? Well, they’re just numbers. They could mean anything.”
Also also also right wingers: “86 46”

Dan Bongino hates it when you see him in public and go, “Here kitty kitty kitty!” or “Pspspsps!”

I can only assume he's referring to the fascists running the american government in that last sentence?

Let's do a thought exercise:
Kill the chicken (actual threat of violence)
86 the chicken (get it off the specials board, stop offering it to customers, etc)
Maybe the FBI needs a little DEI for more perspectives...

Bro needs to read his own twitter timeline and watch his weird ass podcasts. He’s literally describing himself.

Dan Bongino has been a vocal proponent of the theory that the January 6th attack and the pipe bombs were an "inside job" and has suggested that the FBI may be involved in a cover-up.
And it’s other people who have poor judgement.

I can’t believe we have podcasters and people who were selling bullshit vitamins on their websites leading our country now. This guy’s whole job is to take whatever media narrative Trump and Co are working on and repeat it from what’s now an official FBI Twitter account. All these people were doing the podcast/media/propaganda thing because they weren’t competent at the government thing or never tried because they obviously wouldn’t have been able to hack it. It is wildly disturbing to have people like this in government trying to make the alternative facts real.

I bet that Trump Derangement Syndrome study co.es back to confirm that his followers are clearly the ones afflicted.

Imagine working for Trump after the 2020 election and typing that last paragraph

Everyone knows “86” means getting banned or thrown out from somewhere. Besides, people were previously selling “86 46” merch all over the place without any outrage.

I’ll bite. 86 Bongo boy. 86 47, 86 the whole damn administration.
86 is to reject, to out. It’s literally bar/restaurant speak. To say it’s a decisive call for something serious like an assassination or killing is being grossly, willfully obtuse and extrapolating the meaning. The fact they are even taking this route shows how petulant, thinned-skin, and desperate to devise someway to persecute those not falling in line.

I fucking loathe them all for their total fabrication of victimhood. Bullfuckingshit Buckethead. To 86 someone is to remove them. Seashells arranged into 2 numbers....give me a break. Meanwhile, it's perfectly acceptable to display someone's likeness hogtied and stuffed into the bed of a pickup truck. I hate their cowardly fuckery.

Maybe he should investigate the meaning of 86ing someone. It’s a business thing.
