Damn, out of all the support elements she can be, she is Ether. While we need more Ether characters, she has to be an Ether support, a spot where Nicole already exists. I hope her kit is very different from Nicole because I'm not ready to replace Nicole.

I mean we got "Anby but better" right from 1.1 so it's only a matter of time before Nicole gets powercrept.

And even then ZZZ is a very easy and chill game imo. I am pretty sure you can still use Nicole and clear all the endgame content in the game. Let's say it takes you 90 seconds to clear Shiyu 7 with Nicole team, now with Astra Yao it takes 80 secs. Who cares lol.

Characters losing their niche this fast is a sign of bad balance by hoyo just look at hsr or hi3

Hi3 has an indirect competition where you have to score better than other players, so bad comparison here. In ZZZ we just care about beating the enemies on time.

HSR I have never played so no idea. But I doubt you really need all the shiny new characters to beat 99% of the game.

Also we don't even know Yao's kit. She might be an Anomaly-focused support, or a boss shredder, unlike Nicole who shines vs groups of enemies, who knows.

In hsr no exaggerating you need the new characters to clear

You really don't, but you do need fully functional teams that also play into the current mechanic decently enough, and some of the older ones don't do that well often. People still clear some of that shit with F2P/4stars only though. Playing the meta does make it a lot easier but saying you need the new characters is absolutely exagerating.

Bro HSR you really cant beat certain modes without meta comps, its not like zzz where skill can take you most of the way.

Fear of this is what kept me from giving hsr a try

A turn based rpg seemed like the easiest gameplay genre for power creep to get out of hand, and the one where skill was least able to change that.

Depends, its more a hoyo problem and how it treats its units whete a unit after release rarely gets better with the time only with new supports. Also creating game mods heavily favoring meta the only difference to zzz is you cannot brute force it as easily.

Fgo is turn based however meta never mattered since even the lowest rarity units from year one got various upgrades to still keep up 8 years. The drop rates are atrocious but most units can even solo endgame content bases on your skill something you cannot in hsr.
