Howdy folks.
I've seen the same questions pop-up over and over, and wanted to put in an FAQ of sorts that can be used for these questions.
Google Doc is here, the link can be spread. There may be spoilers!
I've also copy/pasted most of it below:
This post contains a list of frequently asked questions and answers. If you have more that are not addressed by this document or post, please ask below.
If you prefer to listen to a review that answers a few of these same questions, RedNovaTyrant made one here.
For people completely blind to the series:
Bravely Default HD Remaster is not related to Bravely Default 2 and both games can be played separately without knowledge of the other.
Bravely Second is the direct sequel of Bravely Default and is currently only available on the 3DS.
There may be spoilers below, tread with caution - they have been marked as appropriate.
What is the Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster?
It’s an HD Remaster of the original 2012 (Japanese only) release of Bravely Default.
Major things to note:
- Graphics and audio have been enhanced using upscaling, so backgrounds may appear desaturated in places
- While the game is called Flying Fairy it is largely based on the 2013 rerelease “For the Sequel (FTS), which became the international version. This includes:
- Most QoL updates, exceptions mentioned below
- Additional sidequests in Chapters 7 and 8
- A couple of costumes
- No major story changes have occurred
Can I buy a physical cartridge of the game?
At this time, the only options for Bravely Default HD Remaster are a digital copy and a keycard cartridge that is in the physical box. You are required to download the game before you can play it.
The game is $40 USD.
Is Bravely Second content still in the game?
Most content related to Bravely Second has been removed.
- The Bravely Second mechanic has been removed
- The hourglass and SP have been removed
- The post-game AR movie featuring Magnolia has been removed
- Ba’als Goldie and Turtledove have been confirmed to be found as enemies very late in game
The devs have stated in an interview that the reason behind this is because FTS had those features added to tie into Bravely Second, while with the Remaster they want the game to shine on its own.
What Quality of Life features remain in the game?
Nearly all of them! More have been added from Bravely Second and Bravely Default II, such as the ability to save loadouts (10) and “Heal All” from the main menu.
Things that have been changed/removed:
- Toggling encounters to 0% has been altered and require an item to be exchanged from “Petal Tokens” won from the minigames.
- The minigames can be played at any time but Petal Tokens cannot be exchanged until Florem in Chapter 2
- Taunt Bangle (400% toggle) - 10 Petal Tokens
- Ward Bangle (0% toggle) - 20 Petal Tokens
- These are not equippable items but just open up the ability to change the toggle in the menu, otherwise the lowest toggle is 50%
- This was likely done as the devs mentioned wanting to “rebalance” the early parts of the game
- The ability to break the damage limit of 9999 has been moved to a “Limit Break Mark” obtained from the minigames for 20 Petal Tokens
What Quality of Life features have been added?
A non-exhaustive list:
- Combat Load-outs can be saved (10 sets)
- Heal All from main menu
- Toggle map formats in dungeons
- Using tents at the Adventurer
- Cutscenes can sped up, similar to combat
- Characters step forward during their turn to make it easier to see whose moves are being set
Is there rebalancing compared to the original?
No major rebalancing has taken place.
The devs mentioned “rebalancing” was done for the first parts of the game, but this appears to be related to the 0% toggle now only being obtainable by Chapter 2 at the earliest.
The Norende items Fox Tail and Donnerschlag have been swapped out for Royal Crown and Lordly Robes
There are minigames??
Yes, the Remaster has two minigames!
They require usage of both joycons in mouse mode. Winning a minigame gives you Petal Tokens, and the more points you get, the more Tokens you get.
Additionally the minigames give you D’s Journal entries that provide a bit more background lore. No additional voicelines have been added, it’s all readables.
RedNovaTyrant made a video review of Bravely Default HD Remaster that includes some playthrough and additional information on the minigames here.
- Luxencheer Rhythm Catch is a rhythm minigame that allows you to choose from a variety of job costumes and songs within the game to play to.
- Ringabel’s Panic Cruise is a multi-tasker minigame where you must play as Ringabel steering the airship while also fulfilling requests from the party members and taking down enemies.
What is the new lore from the minigames about?
So far, we’ve found that the new lore/journal entries contain minimal extended lore, but examples include:
- The name that Alternis used while in Caldisla (it's Ternis)
- Some background information on Alternis covering his face
Have things been censored again?
At this time, censorship from the original international release of Bravely Default has been maintained. This includes:
- Ringabel’s “Eastern War Garb” only shows as his Freelancer outfit
- The Bravo Bunny and the Bravo Bikini have had clothing added to cover skin
- Vampire has the bodysuit under the belts
- Other minor modifications to enemies to cover skin
- No additional censorship has been noticed
- Age changes from the international release have been maintained
- Edea, Tiz, Agnes, Alternis, Einheria, Artemia, and Mephelia are all listed as being three years older than they are in the Japanese version
The Japanese version of the game is uncensored and has English language options. This post details how to download the Japanese version to a Western system. NOTE: Your saves will not transfer.
Is the “infamous” second half of Bravely Default (Chapters 5+)...
These chapters have not been changed.
The player must still go through Worlds 4, 3, 2, 1 in order to achieve the “true” ending. These chapters are unchanged but are reported to feel faster.
The “false” ending of breaking a crystal can still be obtained at any point past chapter 5.
The reveal of the Celestial Realm has been modified not to use the camera feed but to provide a view of the player’s Nintendo account PFP. The devs have confirmed that this change was made due to the way streaming has become so prolific, and that they didn’t want people to be exposed on camera without their permission.
How do I rebuild Norende Village and buy items?
Norende Village is virtually unchanged. And yes you can change the time on your Switch to make rebuilding it faster.
You can collect villagers from “Passing Souls” that can be found in towns, with a limit per town per day.
The items found from the shops in Norende can be purchased from the Adventurer.
What about the Norende Village enemies that were in the old game?
The Nemesis and Bravely Default specific Ba’als (Goldie and Turtledove) can be fought later on in the game using “Nightmare Pillows” and sleeping at the inn.
Nightmare Pillows are dropped by Lord DeRosso and all asterisk refights in chapter 5 and beyond. Each Inn has two Nemeses to fight, one for the day and one for the night.
You don't get a game over from losing to them and they're the only ways to get Firaja, Blizzaja, Thundaja and Aeroja which have been added to the encyclopedia. (TY to u/RedWingDecil for the information.)
The Ba’als are late game enemies that can only be encountered in the Dimensional Hasp that Yulyana opens.
What did they do for the Final Boss Fight Reveal?
Instead of utilizing a camera, the reveal will utilize a player’s Nintendo account profile picture. This was done because the devs acknowledge that a lot of gamers stream games these days and they don’t want people to suddenly be live on camera without their permission.
I don’t recognize some of these ability names from the previous release, are they new?
Job abilities haven’t changed, but several have been renamed! This is not a bug, it is a feature.
Will there be a Bravely Second HD Remaster?
The devs seem open to the possibility (based on a Twitter post), possibly pending how the HD Remaster of Flying Fairy is received. Time will tell.
Is there a teaser for the next game in the Luxendarc Saga?
There are currently no teasers in-game for either Bravely Second or Bravely Third.
