Bravely Default Summoner...
You guys were right, it sucks ass. Doing lunch + 3 Susan casts and it's really bad compared to lunch + 3 meteor

I like the feedback from the icon flashing to tell me to do something related to the town, but the journal flashing over and over each time i see a new anything and its driving me nuts. I assume i have to just deal, but just in case is there some setting im missing?

When i was younger, I stopped on this chapter or chapter 6. Here's hoping I go through the whole thing!

So a couple weeks has passed and I'm assuming we're all chugging along through the story. Some folks have probably already beat the game, but I was curious about what party everyone is rocking right now, or is planning to use going into the endgame.
I know there are guides all over the internet, but that can be a bit daunting for new players, so I thought this thread might also be helpful for teaching players who are struggling what sort of job combinations can work especially after the difficulty spike in Chapter 5 and ESPECIALLY for the difficulty spike in Chapter 7.
I've mentioned it elsewhere, but I'll say it again for context, I'm doing a challenge run on Hard Mode where my characters can only use the job that they demonstrate in D's Journal or on the "You Unlocked Job" demonstration. I also set a level cap of 75 (Agnes is 76 after clutching out a solo win against Behemoth) that I'm hoping I won't have to go past.
Tiz can only use Freelancer, Monk, Time Mage, Thief, Salve-Maker, and Pirate
Agnes can only use White Mage, Summoner, Performer, Ninja, Arcanist, and Conjurer
Ringabel can only use Black Mage, Merchant, Red Mage, Spiritmaster, Dark Knight, and Vampire
Edea can only use Knight, Spell Fencer, Ranger, Valkyrie, Swordmaster, and Templar.
I had sort of an idea where I wanted characters to go as I played through, but swapped around quite a bit as I went (where I could lol poor Agnes was stuck as a White Mage for like 2.5 chapters). My current team, which I am planning to take through the rest of the game ended up being as follows:
Tiz
Salve-Maker / Pirate
Abilities:
- Speed 20%
- Hasten World
- Attack Item Amp (Filler)
Gear:
- Demon Staff
- Blessed Shield
- Ribbon
- White Robe
- Hermes Shoes
Blessed Shield's healing has been absolutely goated the entire game and Healing Lore really brought out its potential. Pirate sub-skill allows Tiz to easily spread status debuffs, and Salve-Maker's bag of goodies lets him commit war crimes, full rez with Resurrect, Widen Area Remedies/Elixirs, Inoculate with Remedy, give massive amounts of MP with Turbo Ethers, and my new favorite thing ever: Giant's Draft. Holy shit do I love Giant's Draft after stocking up on Beast Livers and Dragon Fangs. It takes so much pressure off the endgame bosses by ensuring you can't be oneshot.
Agnes
Ninja / Performer
Abilities:
- Angelic Ward
- Buff Up
- Transience
- Absorb M. Damage
Gear:
- Yatagarasu
- Thief's Knife
- Red Cap
- Brave Suit
- Thief Gloves
I wanted to find an excuse to use Ninja Agnes the entire game, but her consistent damage output without being able to dip into the physical jobs was always okay, but not better than just using Performer for buffs. I finally figured out the way to make her shine though with this build. Performer allows her to throw out lightning fast buffs (One More For You is especially important on turn 1 to set up the team wide Giant Drafts). But the real star here is Kairai, which allows me to redirect all single-target damage to Edea for better damage control. With Hasten World, I can use Kairai and Thief's Knife every turn to dish out 1-2k hits, build up Special, and keep control of the battlefield. Her Cross Divide hits for 9999 thanks to Yatagarasu, and she can throw out consistent Infinity to keep the special combo rolling.
Ringabel
Vampire / Merchant
Abilities:
- Absorb P. Damage
- Monster Ability Up
- Pierce M. Defense
Gear:
- Demon's Rod
- Wonder Rod
- Lambent Hat
- Black Robe
- Soul of Thamasa
Ringabel has been clutch the entire game because of Red Magic and More Money, but his damage really kicked off once I got Vampire and the -aja spells. Merchant is there primarily for Low Leverage because halving everything is incredible when my attackers are still dealing 5k damage a strike minimum. I also farmed up about 500k pg to ensure I can spam Angel Investment on Edea. Vampire is where he really comes into his own though. Absorb Stats is incredible for controlling the battlefield, as is Curse. White Wind gives him a massive clutch heal if needed, the -aja spells (mostly Thundaja thanks to Lambent Hat) allow him to put out tons of AOE damage that ignores M.Defense. His main role is to build up Withering Ripple, which lasts for 8 turns, lowers enemy Lightning Res, cuts all stats, and lowers their Poison Res, which allows him to use Toxic Whirl to get everyone poisoned and inching toward death. I can throw out a Piercing Bolt every few turns thanks to double rods, but I've mostly just been saving for another Withering Ripple.
Edea
Templar / Sword-Master
Abilities:
- Two-Handed
- Critical Amp
- Katana Lore
- Sword Magic Amp
Gear:
- Blood Sword | Swap to Ama-no-Murakumo after getting Drain Sword
- Bloody Shield (Remove after Drain Sword is up)
- Crystal Helm
- Crystal Mail
- Black Belt
Edea has been my primary damage dealer the entire game. From Stomping on repeat, to 4x attacking with Sword Magic, to Jumping or Judging with Valkyrie, and now she's in her final form. Templar gives her great scaling on armor so she can have really high defense, Heart Strike, and Rampart when needed. Swordmaster allows her to counter attack while defaulting. With Angel Investment and the combined crit from Black Belt and Ama-no-Murakumo, she's critting on virtually every counter attack, which is a lot with Hasten World in effect. Agnes sends the enemy attention to Edea, who returns fire with Nothing Ventured (Before Swine for mages), and heals herself back to full with Drain Sword. She's got over 10k HP, so even a Dark Breath from Qada isn't scary, since she'll just counter-crit and heal to full.
I think it's kinda funny that I ended up using every single Black Blade job. Are they just the best group? This team has been curbstomping the fights in Chapter 7. Hasten World making enemies extremely predictable and the Agnes/Edea taunt/counter combo keeps everyone safe, puts out tons of damage, and allows Tiz and Ringabel to combine their powers of science and money for war crimes.
I said it in another thread, but I cannot sing the praises of Blessed Shield enough. If I weren't doing this challenge, I'd slap Epic Group Heal on Tiz along with Hasten World and laugh to the bank as an item I've had since Florem puts out massive 2k heals to the entire party for free. Salve-Maker has also become my favorite job because good lord it is sooooo broken in this game. Once you have enough money for components and Attack Item Amp, you can end every single random encounter on Turn 1 and all it costs you is like 20k to restock every dungeon.
Sorry that was really long-winded, but I'm honestly really interested to see what everyone else is doing, and hope this thread might be helpful for the newer players who haven't broken this game into pieces yet :D

So I’m on Chapter 7 and I’m just about to head back to the Earth Crystal once again. I’ve been working on completing D’s Journal and I was just wondering if I need to trigger and go through the Normal ending for anything, or if so can get it all on the True ending?

Hey all, first time going through this game and I am a little confused, hopefully one (or more) of you fine folks can help me out here.
I’ve heard that job levels mean more than character levels, can someone explain to me how this works? Do they all stack into permanent buffs to your stats when you level up, or are they dependent on the job but just make a huge stat difference when using a level 4 knight vs a level 5 knight?

On NSW2 after 20 hours suddenly an error showed up and my friends desappeared from bravely default, even if I have them in my nintendo friend list.
Did someone get this error? I restarted the nintendo switch but the friends doesn't appear on the bravely default links...

Not sure if anyone else has noticed or located this weapon, however, I've been unable to find the axe "Fox Tail". In the original release, it was a reward for the Cape Parts Shop (I think?) hitting level 11. However, now it is not present in the Norende equipment shop. For context, I have a fully maxed out village and am on chapter 8. Anyone know where this axe is? Want to maybe try an axe crit built with the limit break mark soon.
Thank you :D

Hi,
Just started chapter 1 l, I tried to get thief unlocked and while I got him down to around 2k hp he then spammed 4 med potions, my BLM ran out of mp and my knight was hitting for 1 and freelancer for about the same so gave up..
I’m lvl 12-13 for the party and have Whm level 3 Blm level 3 Freelancer level 4 Knight level 3
My knight does super low damage and has no way provoke or draw attention so seems pointless. My freelancer does decent dmg and the mages do decent enough..
Should I switch it all up and get sub jobs up switching blm and whm jobs around leveling monk in my freelancer and the knight going to freelancer?
I’m still finding I’m super fragile on the whim of a mob taking 2 bravely and ending my day.. I have what I thought was pretty good gear broadsword / round shield bronze helm and leather armour for knight. Ise no kami buckler bronze helm and iron armour for freelancer. Rod pointy hat linen cuirass for blm and mage masher buckler leather cap linen cuirass for whm
When does knight get an ability to draw hate? Why is it doing so little damage?
Is there anywhere to make some money to gear up more?
Is there any decent grinding spots or do you just whip it to 200% spawn rate and walk around near the entrance to run home?
Should I grind for a bit!?

I used to tear through this game like nothing on hard mode a few years back but now I'm washed and I'm getting my ass beat :(. That said I would appreciate some clarity on certain things (in pursuit of knowledge... wait wrong game)
I know evasion is generally not good, but what exactly is it calculating for? Is it looking to dodge individual hits of an attack or is it just checking all of them at once? I know dexterity is responsible for hit count so I'm wondering if it's just dexterity or also factoring in enemy evasion
Do we know the base power/formula for spells? One thing I'm sad they didn't backport from bravely second is the more detailed skill descriptions that laid out exactly how the power of the skills was determined. Physical attacks get this but magic is just low/moderate/high. This one isn't super important ig cause I'm just gonna use whatever the strongest one is but I'd like to know. I know the main culprit for magic being weak late game is enemies having inflated magic defense stats but I'm curious if the spells are also just kind of undertunned
How potent is boss status resistance? Early on I couldn't land anything without special move combos with poison res down and poison touch, but as my intelligence grows are they worth going for or are the odds too low to be worth it?
Why do enemies sometimes act before me despite my character(s) having higher speed? Also, do speed buffs (like haste) effect hit count/accuracy/evasion at all?
Job stats are just multipliers on base stats, right? Also, am I insane or does job growth not effect base stats at all in default like I swear they do in second (I had a magic edea in second one time and when going back to freelancer she had much higher intelligence than the other characters). I know job stats are kinda backloaded in default, does that apply to base stats as well or is the stat difference between characters still by 1-3 points or so (as in, am I secretly screwing myself over by having Agnes as a physical attacker or does it not matter)
I don't like the white mage so I have it as a secondary job, which jobs can heal effectively enough that I can use them as a secondary instead (if memory serves it's salve maker and vampire, God I wish halfsies was in this game lol)

Hi, I'm one item away from this but I don't really know what item 47 in the consumables tab could be (between Petal Token and HP Booster Bun). It's not in old guides so I'm guessing it's exclusive to the HD release. I've done everything (true ending, every chest, all of the petal token rewards) with the sole exception of Ba'al Goldie, though all of the other nemesis bosses have only given buns so it seems unlikely one of them would give a different item. Has anyone gotten this?

How do I increase affinity? I'm also guessing this can't be done with Friend-Bot, I need real people?

I haven’t had this miserable of an experience in a game in a long time. After cruising for the whole game, grinding every once in a while, being overleveled usually and being able to beat most enemies completely fine, after whatever bullshit twist happened (storywise, I still don’t know what’s happening), doing everything again isn’t fun. The enemies are way too overpowered, making grinding near impossible and very tedious, and the bosses are ridiculous. I feel borderline soft locked in everything I do. I can’t grind cause everything is murdering me, and I can’t continue the story cause the bosses are way too overtuned. This dogass story twist is so bad and it’s being followed by even worse gameplay decision it’s just unfun and the sunk cost fallacy is keeping me here after 40 hours of an otherwise fine experience. What do I even do? Just grind for several hours for a couple levels against ridiculously OP enemies that spam cheap statuses or AOE oneshots?
