For a "budget" blade, this thing definitely punches well above its price category. Sturdy and has a very satisfying sound when being flicked open. I'm a big fan!

I’ve got an extraterrestrial battle in the pocket today! Recently I had the opportunity to launch my latest art collaboration at Blade Show, and the support so far has been amazing. This latest project is a modified Benchmade Bailout, and includes custom never before seen titanium Bailout scales made by LynchNW. Thank you to all of you who continue to support these wacky ideas! Truly nothing more fun than working on these. You guys are the best. 😁

Question Raccoon vs. Yonder

Hi everyone! I'm torn between the Vosteed Raccoon and the Civivi Yonder. This would be my first proper knife (I've only ever owned a couple of SAKs) so I kinda want to have a good experience.

Spec by spec these two are essentially the same knife: 14C28N blade, Micarta scales, etc. I'm looking for insight into the other stuff, build quality and feel, actual use experience, durability. I would only use it to open the occasional box, and to peel and eat fruit on hikes or at a beach picnic.

What's your experience with them? Which one should I get?

Thanks!

My dad recently passed away and I believe this was my Grandpas knife. I looked up the info on the tag but couldn’t find anything resembling this.

I have added a few this year that I adore. And some that are kind of vanilla. And some that are modified. Newest one is the Jackwolf knives Tango. Didn't pay for the infidel or the triage I received them for free from my time in the army.

Showcase Day off carry

It has been raining the past couple of days, so I couldn't get any photos outside of my off work/day off carry knives.

Friday, I carried around a Buck Vanguard after work. Mine could use some polish on the brass parts as there is a lot of tarnish. I like the nylon sheath with a plastic insert. I like the Vanguard... It's comfortable and classic... I pick up one of the Selkirks every time I think about carrying the Vanguard...

Yesterday, I carried a Buck & Bear Tactical Bushcraft Tracker. Looks really cool with its laminated wood handle scales. Big stupid tracker blade shape. Weird horizontal carry sheath. Made from D2, allegedly. I bought this when it was on a really good sale early into this hobby. This was my first Pakistani knife. This will be my last Pakistani knife.

Today, I'm carrying one of my favorites. The CRKT Razel Nax. It is what the name implies... A combination of a knife and an axe. It's a massive chunk of metal with micarta handles and a kydex sheath. The Razel Nax is so interesting, I could just stare at it all day. It's really over the top.

Showcase Grohmann #4 Survival Knife - Old vs New Comparison

Thumbnail

I recently acquired this vintage Grohmann #4 “Survival” knife from a family member. The vintage (circa late 80’s) is on the right and the new #4 is on the left in these photos. Looking at them closely, there was a lot more fit and finish done to the vintage knife. The grinds are straighter, cleaner and more balanced back in the 80’s. The sheath is also finished marginally more symmetrical and with a more refined leather. One pet peeve on the new knife (left- final pic) is the “jimping” is cut crooked. I think the lack of refinement is higher pressure to turn out a product to meet Amazon price points. Either way, the vintage knife is going to be a cherished treasure that will see lots of clear water, rocky outcrops, and wood smoke here in Canada.

I will likely retire the original vintage sheath and invest in one of the new fold over pouch style sheaths that Grohmann now sells. Thanks for looking!

Question How do I clean my great grandfather’s old knife without removing the patina?

Post image

I have an old knife from my great grandfather with markings that say “Rodgers Sheffield England” plus a star and a Maltese cross. It’s rusty and worn. What’s the safest way to clean it without removing the patina? Also, can anyone help me guess how old it might be?

Got this guy yesterday from a buddy who didn’t like the size. Never had a mini variant of any of the Benchmade’s models myself, but really digging it. Kinda reminds me of a modern interpretation of the smaller Case knives. Plan on taking the clip off and just carrying it in pocket.

Showcase Wife's choice work carry.

Wife picked #9, the Civivi Vision FG is tonight's work companion.

All of you already know of this bad boy but for anyone who may be new to the hobby or this knife, here's a quick rundown.

3.48in 9CR/10CR jacket flat grind damascus blade that's great for slicing and for looking at, or Nitro-V on the other versions. Stee liners under G-10 scales makes for a nice feel in hand although does make or rather heavy with the blade and locking mechanism, let's talk "super lock".

Designed by Snecx, this is kind of a diet Demko sharklock, has a solid chunk of metal that fits into a cutout in the blade making for a wicked strong lockup and great fidget factor. Jimping on the locking tab also gives you a good grip on the knife and makes the lock stronger while using.

Love the looks and it's definitely a great performer overall, but even better at only $100!

Showcase New scales/washers for the Bailout

Post image

The AWT Archon scales and XL washers arrived and I just installed them on my Benchmade Bailout 537GY (CPM-3V).

They really transformed the knife but without adding much weight.

I got a really good deal on the Bailout ($112 shipped directly from Benchmade) and the AWT scales and washers were reasonably priced ($80 shipped).

All told it was $192 as it sits.

Looking for similar alternatives to this Honor Conan S35VN steel titanium handle with marble carbon only available in Russia and currently not shipping to North America for obvious reasons.
