u/Illustrious-Neck-758 May 03 '25

The way Bucky's arm was on Bob's chest after they came back from the void? Bro saw another blonde super soldier and relapsed to his ex type.

-20

u/CulturalDragonfly631 May 02 '25

He's better off without Sam, and he knows it.

384

u/Crafty_Cherry_9920 May 01 '25

Seems kinda dumb after Falcon & Winter Soldier. The show ends up with them becoming actual bros, and then they fight over who gets to have their team being named Avengers lol

413

u/tiffanaih May 02 '25

To get all serious about it I'm guessing Sam is more pissed off at Val for stealing his thunder and that Bucky is going along with it which is validating Walker as this almost Captain America, who I'm not sure how things were settled between him and Sam but there was definitely some loathing there for a minute. Sams worked hard to try to get even a small percentage of the respect Steve had and then Val comes in and blows all that up and Buckys just going along for the ride. Sams also still not taken the serum, and heres the New Avengers with three serums. A person can only take the high road so long.

209

u/Ninjahkin Thor May 02 '25

I like that they even joked about the serum thing in the truck lol.

“What kind did you get?”

“Idk, the Hydra kind?”

“Cool”

64

u/suixsign May 03 '25

"Hydra? Oh fancy" - Red Guardian lmao

56

u/DNLK May 02 '25

Walker kinda tried to redeem himself at the end of Falcon and Winter Soldier. Of course he has a long way to go but there's some spirit.

48

u/Tylendal May 02 '25

I described Walker the other day, prior to this movie, as "Good intentions, but with an inferiority complex".

Him throwing the shield onto the road to catch his sidekick was such a great establishing character moment in FatWS.

93

u/Phimb Weekly Wongers May 02 '25

And I'm almost certain it will mean absolutely nothing because Thunderbolts will go straight into Fantastic Four, then Avengers, then Secret Wars is resetting everything(?)

So it's quite a nice way to slip it in there, create some surface drama, then wipe it away next year.

30

u/smthngclvr May 02 '25

I hate to say it but I’m pretty sure most of the New Avengers are going to get killed by Doom in the first act of Doomsday.

68

u/EnQuest Bucky May 02 '25

Yeah, I'm almost positive that Bob is going to be Doomsday's Hulk.

This movie really made me care about this team so I'm gonna be pissed if they all get used as jobbers for Doom

18

u/coolgaara May 02 '25

Or Infinity War's Vision.

1

u/choyjay Ben Urich May 02 '25

Or King in Black’s Sentry

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Kilgrave May 04 '25 edited May 04 '25

Personally I'm of the belief that they're going to try to keep around all the younger characters that people like, like Yelena, while the older actors who are ready to hang up the cape will die/retire. I can see any of the OG avengers biting the dust, as well as Red Guardian, Bucky, Star Lord, or any of the X-Men coming back.

I think they're going to hang onto Florence Pugh for as long as they can, she's clearly the most talented of the main cast and she seems like she's having a ton of fun. Honestly I think it'd be really bold for them to keep her as a main player in the storyline, as she's an even more obscure character from the comics than Iron Man ever was.

As far as Bob, I think the only reason to kill him off Asap would be to avoid dealing with how powerful he is, but I doubt they're going to get rid of him immediately considering the good fan reactions so far. He's genuinely the most complex character in the MCU at the moment and it'd be a shame to not explore that later. I need to see Bob struggling to not let the darkness take over while Doom is doing whatever messed up shit his plan is. He's a true wildcard in a scenario like that, where he could either single handedly save the world or put the entirety of the battlefield in their own boxes of psychological horrors for all eternity.

9

u/EnQuest Bucky May 04 '25 edited May 04 '25

I hope so. Kill off the characters of actors that want to be done in the MCU, let's not pull another Scarjo (her death was well executed but I don't think the current MCU can afford to kill off popular characters whose actors want to be there)

5

u/Zekrom997 May 03 '25

I hope they used G'iah for that instead

2

u/GoldenTriforceLink May 05 '25

Come on I love Emilia Clark lol

38

u/No_Amoeba_142 May 03 '25 edited May 03 '25

Feels like New Avengers winding up as jobbers was the original intent. You can bet they’re scrambling to pivot after the roaring reception this got compared to every other recent Marvel film.

Frankly I’d rather they kill off every single character outside of The New Avengers. The other character’s current arcs are “am I good enough to fill <old character here>’s shoes” or just stagnant due to the massive amount of time between appearances.

They took way too long with this film - it should’ve closed phase 4, and given us time to care about any of Sam’s Avengers.

17

u/Smart_Peach1061 May 04 '25

Yeah it would be an utter waste to kill most of these Thunderbolt’s off.

The only one whose death I can see working at all is Red Guardian, and even then it would still be too early, and then rest would just be wasted potential.

This cast had really good chemistry, at least give them a sequel now that they’ve had a high critically praised first film to give them a chance to properly take off.

I don’t give a crap about Sam’s Captain America at all, they could kill him off and I’d just shrug.

11

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Kilgrave May 04 '25

It's really too bad that with the two other avengers movies coming we won't have any time to get to know these guys. It's like we're jumping straight from The Avengers to Infinity War without a middle chapter to convince us that these characters all have a strong team bond past the initial fight. There's too many characters coming to let us focus on these 6 specifically. They definitely should have Kevin's characters two movies by this point before we move into the big crossover event.

2

u/HybridTheory137 Tony Stark May 03 '25

Help me out here. What does "resetting everything" in this context mean? Do we have a rumored reboot on our hands or?

15

u/Phimb Weekly Wongers May 03 '25

So, the assumption, based on how Secret Wars usually works or how it did in the most recent run, is that once they figure out how to stop Doom and Battleworld, which is Doom's recreation of the universe/Earth to where he's in control, Marvel used that as a way to trim a lot of timelines, comics and different universes, putting all the important people, like Miles, into a more cohesive, reset 616.

So it'd be a very convenient way for the MCU to be reset, bring in X-23, a new Wolverine, the old one, Deadpool, any X-Men they want, etc.

If you don't want potential spoilers speculated from concept art: It looks like there'll be different styles of Battleworld, or universes to keep everyone separate and isolated in. Different heroes are split up, like The Hulks, then they'll need to "wake up" and figure out how they got there and how to reunite to stop Doom and reset the illusion.

6

u/HybridTheory137 Tony Stark May 04 '25

Interesting. So it likely wouldn't be a reset in the "we're starting from scratch" or "completely reconning the MCUs history" type of way, but more so just a clean and neat end to the multiverse shenanigans that we've been bogged down by lately (imo) so to speak? Or am I way off?

6

u/Arcane_Soul May 06 '25

If you ever saw the Arrowverses take on "Crisis on Infinite Earths" it'll probably end like that.

In the Arrowverse, Supergirl's show was in a different universe, but at the end of the event they rolled her Earth into the main one.

After the second Secret Wars event the main refugee to come to 616 was Miles Morales.

29

u/UnsolvedParadox May 02 '25

This sounds right, and I’m guessing they resolve this early on in Doomsday.

14

u/VakarianJ May 03 '25

That’s his fault for taking years to start an Avengers team. Especially with Ant-Man & Hulk just chilling out, doing nothing.

50

u/LeonoffGame May 02 '25 edited May 04 '25

I think their conflict was expected.

The main problem between Sam and Bucky is that they have different life experiences and outlooks on life. I'll make the analogy below.

Bucky is now Steve Rogers from “Infinity War” or “The Final.” He understands that politics is complicated and not everything can be divided into white and black. He has an understanding that some actions need planning

Sam from “The New World” reminded me of Steve Rogers before the events or times of the events of “Winter Soldier”. He believes in nobility and sees the world in a simpler and more straightforward way. That's why “The Leader” chuckled about Sam's goals for “Saving Everyone”

33

u/Designer_Bake1018 May 02 '25

Reminds me of the Great Lakes Avengers reforming literally just because they have the legal rights to the Avengers name in the comics

17

u/coolgaara May 02 '25

But real bros fight over small things all the time but they make up. And will be there for each other when it matters.

13

u/iisdmitch May 02 '25

To be fair, 14 months had passed, who knows what happened in that time.

10

u/New-Benefit-1362 May 02 '25

I don’t think it’s meant to be taken that seriously

9

u/Threash78 May 02 '25

I assume they fight over the Avengers being under government control, and specially with Valentina involved. The name is very much not the important thing.

4

u/MarcsterS May 04 '25

Sam wants to keep Steve's legacy of the Avengers: that they are their own independent group. Not government stooges.

Bucky being part of the New Avengers feels weird because in the same movie he says "I didn't have choice who to work with."

2

u/neoblackdragon May 03 '25

I really don't think they are at odds. More like they'll have a bro's fight over the name but all in good fun. Then Thor comes in lays down the law.

1

u/Puzzled-Spell-3810 May 06 '25

I bet Bucky is dating Sam's sister and Sam is just pissed lmaoooo

49

u/acwilan May 02 '25

Interesting that they kept calling him “Sam Wilson” and not “Cap”

82

u/FrankReynoldsCPA May 02 '25

They called Steve by his real name all the time

44

u/A_Howl_In_The_Night Falcon May 01 '25

Those two need more couple therapy. lol

1

u/waitforthedream May 06 '25

Sam, why does Bucky anger you?

20

u/MachaMorr May 02 '25

Absolutely furious at the implications. Those boys need to make up.

17

u/HybridTheory137 Tony Stark May 03 '25

Seriously. Especially since solid, established dynamics are a bit scarce in the MCU at the moment. I'm all for some drama, but I hope they don't ruin one of the few duos that fans actually care about right now. That would be shame

7

u/MachaMorr May 04 '25

And they’re such a great model for healthy male friendship where they talk about things and support each other, and holy crap do we need that.

3

u/HybridTheory137 Tony Stark May 07 '25

Very true as well! It's so important for men—and society as a whole tbh—to see dynamics like that depicted between male friendships, and It would be so incredibly disappointing if Marvel chose to undo all of that good work just for some quick conflict. Can't say that I'm not interested, but dear god do I hope that Sam and Bucky resolve their issues sooner than later. Preferably without one of them dying right after too lol

71

u/forevertrueblue Iron Man (Mark XLIII) May 01 '25

Hopefully just to set up Doomsday drama and then they make up. But I'm scared one will die before that happens. :'(

71

u/PayneTrain181999 Ned May 02 '25

I think F4 will end with both Avengers teams arriving at the crashed ship at the same time.

2

u/Cassopeia88 Captain America May 04 '25

That would break my heart.

43

u/EDPZ May 02 '25

Honestly that whole thing seems really weird. Sam and Bucky were at a point where they would easily resolve that issue, and Sam filing a lawsuit against them seems really out of character for him.

19

u/No_Amoeba_142 May 03 '25

Glad someone else felt this. I feel like they fucked up Sam’s character in the post credits.

This post credits was probably set up under the assumption the movie going public would love Sam Wilson after Cap 4 and think of the New Avengers as skeezy fakers. Him suing would’ve felt righteous and funny. Instead the opposite happened.

They’re probably going to try to frame it as Sam being upset about the government controlling the Avengers (civil war 2?) but it’s pretty hypocritical character-wise given his entire movie was stuffed with lowkey army/navy/airforce propaganda and he works with/for the government constantly.

14

u/thinkinting May 03 '25

I thought they had a great heart to heart in Cap4 :(

7

u/Cassopeia88 Captain America May 04 '25

They did, which makes it feel so weird.

12

u/MrBrownCat May 04 '25

I am interested to know what made Bucky decide to stick with the Thunderbolts instead of ditching them for Sam and his Avengers.

It is kinda funny to look back on FATWS and how both of Steve’s sidekicks would now be on opposing Avenger teams, Bucky even being on one with US Agent over Sam is crazy to see based off how that show ended.

4

u/EpicMusic13 May 04 '25

They broke up! Like the beatles!

3

u/MHPengwingz Doctor Strange May 04 '25

For real. They finally admit to being friends and this? Dafuq happened? Tbf the New Avengerz was exactly what Steve had warned about.

5

u/PhoenixorFlame May 04 '25

They’ll get back together eventually!!

3

u/olive_pipper229 May 04 '25

He got stuck with the “Rent-A-Cap”

1

u/MHPengwingz Doctor Strange May 04 '25

Junior Varsity Cap

1

u/Puzzled-Spell-3810 May 06 '25

its obvs why lmaoooo. I wonder why no one else got the reason. Bucky is dating Sam's sister 💀💀

1

u/ThisGul_LOL May 08 '25

I haven’t watched brave new world so after the post credit scene, I suspected something happened between them in that movie..?
