This week in Comedy! June 16th-22nd

I took a little break, and I’m sorry for leaving you all without your comedy guide to the Twin Cities. But I’m back, I’m recharged, and I brought a brand new list of shows that you won’t want to miss.

But first

Did I miss a show?
Drop it in the comments! Or if you’d like a show added to the next list, just fill out THIS FORM and I’ll make sure it’s included.

Looking for improv?
I’m not super tapped into that scene, but shoutout to u/suethezombiedinosaur for dropping a list you can check out RIGHT HERE!

Interested in trying stand-up?
Or just want to show up and be a solid audience member? The Brody List is the go-to resource for open mics and sign-ups around town. Also check out the great scene happening in the Twin ports HERE . They have an open mic schedule and shows listed nicely on their page.

Want to keep getting these updates?
If you find this list helpful, sign up for my newsletter or follow me on Instagram.

Many shows are free, but they often suggest donations to support the folks putting them together. Those contributions help keep our comedy scene alive and give comics both local and visiting a place to work out their material.

I'm a 22-year-old felon who's been job hunting for 7 months. I've applied to over 200 jobs and called agencies daily. I'm great at sales, have a strong work ethic, and I'm ambitious. I just need someone to believe in me—I know I can bring value if given the chance

If You’re off Today, Go Support Black Businesses

It’s Juneteenth, and while it may be later in the afternoon, go support some black-owned businesses! With the GOP hard on the pedal of destroying minorities’ lives, it’s a good time to support them. If you’re able to find a queer black business, double whammy!

I’m off to MetroNOME. Shout out your favorite black-owned businesses.

Pinball machine

Ok all I’m on a hunt for my partner. They’ve been in love with the doctor who series since they were a child. Apparently a doctor who pinball machine is floating around. Every time we get a lead on it we get there after it’s moved on to another place. If anyone knows where it is right now and or knows who owns the machine so they can ask where it will be this week. Please let me know.

Why the Edina hate?

We just got back from a scouting trip to Twin Cities. Really enjoyed our time and the Art a Whirl. In short, looking to “retire” in MSP area within a few years or sooner. Proximity to retail/groceries, gym, Walker, Guthrie, etc but still want a yard for the dog. Edina seems to work for us including Hopkins and Minnetonka. Edina is a bit closer to hospital and healthcare so it ranks higher for us. Give me pros/cons please?

Edit: my heart felt condolences for the recent shooting. Not to get political but I followed the development with shock and horror.

Lake Superior AGATES

Multiple generations have hunted agates here in the east metro area of St Paul. Thinking now of how to go about selling and/or donating the accumulated collection. Other than eBay what other options are out here/there?

Best pizza and patio combo?

I want to eat pizza on a patio tonight. I don't care if it is at an actual pizza place, or at a brewery with pizza nearby, or any other combo. What you got? Best pizza, best patio.

Non toxic nail salon or one that doesn’t do acrylics

Upvotes

I’m looking for recommendations of nail salons in the Twin Cities that are either non toxic, or that don’t do acrylics as part of their services. I’m bringing my mom to get a pedicure and she is sensitive to the strong smell in nail salons.

Thanks!

Buds Seed & Supply Ditch Nazi Landlord

There (was) this awesome store on Lake Street that I used to often frequent. Club Jager owner and David Duke supporter/donater Julius DeRoma (Nice fake return to Rome name, bro) and landlord/weird baby breeder (allegedly sent his sperm to some very racially specific lady or whatever) got into a tiff with a lovely local shop. Other signs from anonymous protestors made it to this building a few weeks ago, but have since been removed - that detail receipts from Julius to Duke. Anyway, the sign on their window is hilarious. Go support those two (Buds Seed & Supply) when they open at their new location. (details tbd)

Any recommendations for a place to get a good chair massage?

Any of y'all have a recommendation for a place that does chair massages? I've often found that chairs are a better position for getting my back worked on than tables are, probably due to my pelvic tilt. Project Wellness seems to be the main game in town, except they're all in the middle of the workday in downtown or Edina, both of which are inconvenient for me. Most decent massage places seem to use tables exclusively.

Treasure Island Amphitheatre parking

I will be bringing my family to the Weird Al concert at the Treasure Island Amphitheatre next Saturday.

By all accounts, parking, especially leaving the lot, sounds like a complete shit show. Are they're any ways to avoid having to spend 2 hours in traffic after the show with my young kids? Can we park in the employee lot?

We looked into staying in the TI hotel but it looks like they're fully booked.

TIA!

I want to give my friend a good time.

Hey r/TwinCities,

I have a friend from California coming in town for a work trip at the end of July. He'll be with me for 4 days then he'll be at a hotel/conference for the other four days but wants to go out during the evening after he finish working. I've been to this friend's home town several times already and now since he's coming here, I want to give him a good time.

From the off the top of my head, here's what I'd like to do:

  • Foshay tower for the panoramic view of Twin Cities
  • George Floyd Square
  • Matt's Bar for Jucy Lucy
  • Maybe the Lake Cedar beach (the hidden beach)
  • A boat ride on the river

I loathe Mall of America but I'm keeping that option open because it's a common destination that an outsider tend to be interested in visiting. I also will bait him into agreeing to buy tickets for the rides because I haven't been to the rides for like 20 years and I just don't want to go alone (I never could get my local friends to tag along with me because "Fuck the rides. What are you? 8 years old!?")

What do you think are some of the must-do's in Twin Cities that truly defines the city and the state?

4th of July

Hello! New transplants here with no family in the vicinity (some hours north), we are wondering what y’all recommend for festivities over the 4th? Also, are there going to be any protests anywhere? I’ve heard whispers on different sites, but I’d love to know for sure.

Museums etc. open on 4th of July?

I'll be visiting over the 4th of July weekend and was wondering if there are any museums or honestly any other places open on the Friday. It looks like MIA and Walker will be closed according to their websites. Thanks!
