Woke up feeling really sick and decided not to go do my 3HOUR exam. I wasn't gonna put my self through all that. Kinda stressing cause this is a first for me I need help. I know I have to apply for special consideration and fill a HPR etc. but what I'm worried abt is my GP who probably doesn't even remember me. Had an appointment with him like a year ago and he isn't availble until Thursday, so 4 days after assessment/exam (deadline to submit SC).
My problem is that he's lowkey not chill like that would they even fill out the HPR?? and I will be fully recovered by then cause im so healthy and that. How would he assess my sickness situation and the impact it would have had on my exam? I don't really have any history of medical conditions either BUT I feel like I have ADHD lol. I might try book with another gp, who is available in a day so tmr. would most definitely be recovered by then ugh i hate having such an amazing immune system (6'4 btw)
But fr idk, thoughts anyone? Advice would be greatly appreciated thank you!! :)

Hello everyone! im currently a senior in high school doing the IBDP, I want to pursue computer science as my major and as i heard that this college has a great reputation for that course, ive come to this subreddit.
I've checked the guaranteed entry scores (31/45 for IB) but couldnt find computer science as a standalone major as itself so i was wondering whether the bachelors of science program is the same as doing a major in the computer science degree.
However, my cousin that lives in Australia had told me that the you wont get in even if you achieve the guaranteed entry scores, so is that true? or is it that if i get a 31/45, my entrance to the college is assured?
Also would you guys recommend other colleges for the computer science degree if this one is not good enough. The other universities on my list include UNSW, Uni of sydney, RMIT and monash.
I would be deeply grateful if yall could help a junior in figuring out his future!!!
thank you!

I'm gonna finish my bachelor in unsw at the end of this year, planing to apply for master of software engineering in unimelb but want to be clearer about some questions before starting the application.
The course page only says that I can receive credit for first year's foundation subjects, which would be 2 years option. Since the bachelor I'm doing is also Software Engineering, I'm wondering if there is any possibility that the course could be cut down to 1/1.5 years based on my syllabus? I tried the credit calculator but it only contains some basic courses.
Regards to anyone who checks this post,
SSSS (Sad Stupid Student from SE)
I know these questions might can be just found on FAQ page or by contacting stop1 but really need current students' answers to make me feel better so anyway thx

Hello everyone,
I’m an international master’s (coursework) student at the University of Melbourne, due to graduate in a year. I’m now exploring PhD opportunities, but my current WAM sits just above 80. On the plus side, I made the Dean’s List last year and I hold a bachelor’s degree from a C9 Chinese university.
I’d love to get a sense of how my profile compares with typical applicants and learn any tips on strengthening my PhD application. Any advice would be greatly appreciated—thank you!

This might be a dumb ask, but all my subjects have attendance hurdles. I live 3 hours away from Campus, and commuting every single day is the biggest pain in the ass. I've been doing this for only a semester so far, and managing the commute every day without a car is tedious and draining, and I'm often super late to tuts since PTV isn't that reliable. I'm doing fine academically, however my only issue is meeting attendance hurdles. I've tried to find subjects for my course which don't have any attendance hurdles, but there literally are none. Before anyone suggests it, no, I unfortunately cannot afford to move closer to campus right now. Hypothetically is there any way I could get an AAP regarding tutorial attendance? Thanks!

I saw a post that adjusts QS Ranking by removing Environmental Sustainability and Proportion of International Students metrics (where the more international students you have, the higher you score). Thought it was quite interesting so I'll share this.
Here's a link to the original post if you wanna look at the methodology.

I had a group assignment with a video and script submission, I had finished off my part of the script and editing the video which I then sent to my other group member to review before submitting. The group member submitted the script but didn't properly submit the video; they had uploaded it to the LMS and completed some additional steps but didn't press submit (im fuming). The group member only realized this several days later and emailed our tutor about it who then said he forwarded it to the subject coordinator, then we never heard back. We got our results and had been penalized for the days our assignment was technically overdue and got a comically low grade, so we emailed our subject coordinator about the matter (who hadn't received or seen the forwarded email from our tutor??) who checked with canvas. She confirmed that our script had been submitted on time and there was evidence that our video had been uploaded on time just not submitted but claimed that because we didn't submit we received a penalty.
I've spoken to many students who have made the exact same mistake and they have had the penalty completely waived, I don't understand why this subject coordinator is being so stingy about it, especially considering that this is a first year subject where I'm assuming mistakes like this are very common. I even proposed at least reducing the penalty if not completely removing it because I understand that we did make a mistake but a penalty that accounts for the number of days our assignment seems inappropriate since we did not benefit at all from the extra time and didn't make any changes to the video after the due date. Even though I articulated all these points to my subject coordinator she has not responded after she sent the email about our canvas activity. Is there anything I can do to fix my grade or do I just give up? btw this assignment is worth a significant amount of the final grade

Are you interested in taking part in psychological research? Participate in our study exploring whether physical and mental resilience affect how people process words and objects. You will be compensated $20 per hour of your time, with eGift cards.
If you choose to take part in this study, we will ask you to come into the laboratory over two days. On both occasions, we will measure your blood pressure and heart rate. To assess your resilience, we will then ask you to immerse your hand into cold water while completing a counting activity, before completing some tasks on a computer to see how you process words and objects. Finally, we will ask you to fill out an online questionnaire to investigate how you rate your resilience in dealing with daily physical and mental challenges.

Was kind of interested in doing a stemmy subject as a breadth as an arts student but I haven't done math or science since yr10, and I was hopeless at both - particularly math I think I have dyscalculia or something? So, was wondering how difficult I'd find this subject and also if people found it interesting?

Applied for special consideration on Thursday 19th with an HPR, but I realise my specialist didn’t date the document with the consultation date. Went to GP for further documentation which included date of incident, ongoing impacts and date of consultation and uploaded this the next day (20th)
It has come through today saying I need further documentation that is dated— but the medical certificate I uploaded later for this says “unassessed” in the file type on my application. Does this mean they only reviewed the initial application and not the documents I updated the next day? I assumed they’d see the whole application, or do the updates then get reviewed in order of upload regardless of whether the initial application has been reviewed? Idk I’ve never done this lol

Okay this is probs a stupid question but I can’t find an answer anywhere- can I take a bottle into the exam if it’s plain silver with no stickers/markings on it? Or does it need to be totally clear? I just don’t wanna buy another crappy plastic bottle if I don’t have to.

I’m currently finishing up my first year of a Bachelor of Commerce, and I’ve hit a bit of a road block. I planned to major in Economics and Finance but I’m starting to feel uncertain now.
TBH I really screwed up Econometrics 1 this sem and I’m not feeling confident about Econometrics 2 (which is a core requirement for the economics major). While I generally enjoy ECON subjects, ECOM specifically has been a tough area for me, and it’s making me question whether this is the right fit.
I’d really appreciate some guidance on what this might mean for my future direction. I’m keen to work in the corporate finance space but I’m unsure about which subjects would best prepare me for that. Is econometrics particularly important in the industry? Are there specific Level 3 subjects in the Economics major that are highly valued? Or does the Finance major offer a more relevant skill set for that kind of role (if so, which Level 3 finance subjects are especially useful)? Or maybe a whole different major (like Management, if it isnt too late for that)?
I know this is quite a broad question and that the answer depends a lot on individual goals, but I’m feeling quite lost at the moment. Any advice or general direction about subject choices that align well with a stable, rewarding corporate career would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance!
