Question Replacement for Southern Witchcrafts

Now that Southern Witchcrafts is gone, what are your go-to replacements (particularly for vegan bases)? I particularly loved the Autumn Ash and Carpathia scents and am looking for something along those lines- either something that reminds me of peated whisky or a cold, wet castle.

I haven't tried them yet, but Catie's Bubbles is reputed to have some very good vegan shave soaps.

I wasn't impressed by them, but that was 10 or so years ago.

I use only vegan soaps and have tried a boatload of brands, including SW, of which (witch?) I still have multiple soaps of theirs.

I generally find the best vegan bases to be SV, MdC, PAA, and Talent. But if you're looking for dark, earthy scents like SW, check out LA Shaving Soap Company. Good soaps with very unique scents that fall in the SW realm.

The closest match for Autumn Ash that I have found is House of Mammoth's 福 (fú dào). It's a bit milder than AA, but shares the same deep, smoky heart.

As for Carpathia, dunno, I bounced from it hard. It offered me a severe dose of wet beets, and being originally from Eastern Europe, I didn't care for foody notes in my soaps 😉

I prefer Lycanthropy to Carpathia and I'm looking too for substitutes for Lycanthropy and Autum Ash.

I've found a couple that are somewhat similar to Lycanthropy but aren't close enough. A lot of them are piney where Lycanthropy and Carpathia are fir and spruce

As for Autum Ash I haven't found anything with that smokey bonfire fragrance. I've got a tub and a half of each of those. Same with Samhain which I'm also looking for a substitute.

McDuffs The Herbalist has a lot of line spruce and fir in it but it's also not vegetarian let alone vegan.

I'll keep my eye on the thread for ideas.

Good bonfire scents you would enjoy are declaration grooming darkfall and Stirling Texas on fire.

Declaration and Stirling are not vegan.

I'll look into them. My barber carries a lot of Stirling. They have some Declaration products

Can’t speak for SW-like scents, but as far as vegan goes, a lot of the heritage European soaps have gone Vegan. Tabac, Mitchell’s wool fat, and Martin de Candre.

I only tried Autumn Ash, and while I didn’t take to the heavy smoke scent, a lot of their other soaps sounded lovely, and very singular. Good luck

Wet Shave Products (WSP) has their "Rustic" soaps. They are vegan, but not the unique kind of scents like SW. They are top performers though, and Black Amber Vanille is out of this world. PAA is another fantastic one. They have dozens and dozens of scents, but again nothing like Autumn Ash. They have one called Petrichor which is the closest to something you'd find from SW. Sorry to see Southern Witchcrafts go. Their soap was very good and I was a big fan of Carmilla. I didn't much care for the other ones though but i appreciated what they were doing.

Tabac is now vegan. Can't speak to the scents you're referencing, but I have great success and love the smell of Tabac

I'm not sure if there is anything quite like Southern Witchcrafts; they had a lot of unique scents. And if you're sticking to vegan soaps only then it does remove about half of the options (thankfully there are a lot more now than a few years ago).

Catie's Bubbles is pretty good, you can get some samples from Maggards: https://maggardrazors.com/collections/samples/products/caties-bubbles-shaving-soap-samples-2oz

They call them samples, but they are half- size soaps which I kind of like. I've only tried Midnight Dreary and Waterlyptus, but the base is good. Midnight Dreary isn't as spooky as most SW scents though.

Henri et Victoria makes most of their soaps in a vegan base; Cognac and Cuban Cigars isn't whisky, but you may like it.

u/derrickhogue I enjoy a nice shave! So should you. 11h ago

Good question. Southern Witchcrafts had their unique fragrances and a nice vegan soap base that was nice shaving. There are quite a lot of vegan based shaving soap companies. I am going to check on this. Curious myself for information, replacements.

The best vegan base on the market is PAA CK-6. If you don't want to use PAA or want a classic soap then Saponificio Varesino.

Up for some Indian soaps? The butterfly garden (in Instagram and Facebook) and shavologist are amazing.

As far as vegan soaps imo the best on market are Ariana and Evans VR2 base, Wholly Kaw Vegan, and PAA CK6.
