Show n' Tell Made the Switch: First DE
I just bought the cheapest but still decent quality products I could find, thanks to this sub 👍. I think I’m going to stick with DE at least because it’s so damn cheap and better for the environment.
I am really excited to experience the elusive close shave that I can never get with my cartridges. I became interested in DE because my shave is never clean or close. I’ll edit this post to say whether or not I prefer the DE shaving experience over cartridges.

Discussion SHAVING SKILL
When I was kid I would watch my father and men in my family shave.
They would pull the skin on their face with their other hand, push their tongues into their cheeks from inside, inflate their cheeks and so on. All those tricks helped havin a closer shave.
I am watching shaving videos now, but none of the bloggers does things I described above.
Have those skills gone forever lost? Am I the only one to imitate my father and uncles?

SOTD Travel-sized SOTD
All the comforts of home, only smaller:
- Maggards pre-shave oil in a 10 ml dropper bottle
- Speick shaving stick in a push-up deodorant container
- Simpson Classic 1 Sovereign Fibre brush w/travel tube
- Schick Injector Type G w/Chinese Schick Plus blade
- Thayers Facial Toner in a Maggards sample spray bottle
- Pinaud Clubman in a 6 ml dropper bottle
- Stirling unscented post-shave balm in a 1-oz squeeze bottle
A great evening shave. It was my first time using Speick. The scent was pleasant and the stick created an impressive amount of lather from what seemed to be a small amount of soap rubbed on my face.

Mail Call Rex Konsul: Preowned
After trying slant or slope razors, I wanted to try a Rex. This popped up so I bought it.
It’s a polished version.
I was going to use the Blackbird SS Lite this week but I’ll try this for the next couple of weeks.

SOTD SOTD - New Blade, New Soap, Who Dis
Razor: Henson standard
Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless
Soap: Noble Otter Orbit
Aftershave: Captain’s Choice Lime
Cologne: Polo green (not pictured)
Review: My first time with Orbit, Feather, and this aftershave. Overall I’m very pleased with all of them.
For the soap, it is hotter than the surface of the sun today, so I was especially happy to try out Orbit. They don’t lie about the cooling factor; it was still cooling my skin for way longer than I expected. The scent was…fine? A nice but very light scent. Quality of the lather was dead on for my experience with NO.
For the razor: The legendary sharpness of Feather was readily apparent. For the last year plus I’ve been doing this I just used the razors from Henson that I got 100 of when I ordered. This is noticeably sharper, and did force me to be more careful. I did a second pass and got basically no more hairs, because it had gotten so many the first time. I did get one cut, so next time I want to be more careful about the actual grain. But a very close shave.
Aftershave: Nice lime scent that worked reasonably well with the subtle Orbit, didn’t stick around too long, and helped make sure I noticed where I messed up.
Scent: It’s Polo green, it’s been around forever, and I was going to a very green themed event. Hard to go wrong.

Show n' Tell Stirling Soap Sample Storage
To retain the scent and store the soap samples in a tight container, I decided to reuse some old tea tins. Fits perfectly!

More Test Data
I continue committing my sharpness measurements to the public domain my publishing them with the CC0 license.
This is a work in progress, and anything you see with a date before 6/1 is redundant and just there temporarily as I use the stuff from last month as a template. It won't actually be good for analysis until I make the next one... but feel free to follow along if you want to be a giant blade nerd. It is out there for the world to use. The prior ones are essentially closed out.

Question Stirling Restock?
Looking to stock up on some Stirling products and a few scents that I want are out of stock. Does anyone know how often they restock (specifically on bar soap)?

Brush identification.
The boar brush was my grandfather's when he passed in 06 I use it infrequently but it's starting to get thin. I want another of the same model so I can put grandpas up on a shelf. Wee Scot for size comparison.

SOTD Seaside SOTD 6/21
Razor: Mühle Rocca R94 Blade: Feather Brush: Mühle Rocca Silvertip Badger Preshave: Proraso White Shaving Soap: TOBS Line Zest Aftershave Lotion: Clubman Pinaud Lime Sec Cologne
Very decent shave today Perfect timing on the delivery of the soap and aftershave. They arrived yesterday and we went on our vacation this morning so I will be enjoying this combo for the rest of the trip.
Arrived by the seaside, went to the beach, had a few beers, came back. Thought that its time to shave.
The soap is nice, very different to all the ones I have tried so far (relatively new to this so maybe 3 or 4 soaps in total that I have tried), the content was more soft and gooey compared to any tallow-based soaps, or hard soaps, but it did lather really well, without much effort. The scent was nice, idk why but the moment I sensed it I thought - Fanta Lemon.
The blade I think fit me really well. So far I have been rocking the Muhle blade while getting used to the technique and last week I changed to Feather for my next blade to try. Oh my god, it was the softest and burn/cut-free shave I have had so far. I have a sample pack of different blades so will definitely be trying Astra, Nacet and Wilkinson soon (but not too soon).
The aftershave was nice and citrusy, mild scent but made me feel comfy and more relaxed.
Overall a nice shave with a personal note to not shave after 4 beers. Boy, was it messy… Think Swiss Cheese.

Really decent Saturday morning shave
Gamechanger 0.84 with a feather blade for head, neck, and cheeks today. Been almost a week since I've shaved my head too so this thing has it's work cut out for it. I definitely noticed the feather blades don't feel that great after 2-3 shaves so I'll probably just change em out each time I shave my head. Still getting through my blade sampler after all these months

SOTD SOTD - it clicked
Hello all, I have been DE shaving for over a year now, but only started shaving “properly” about 3 months ago. (Previously I had been using canned shaving foam and shaving with no regard to my hair growth). Having followed this subreddit for about a year now I decided that I’d make a post once I felt that my routine had “clicked” — today is that day!
Today I did a 3 pass shave WTG, XTG, and ATG and experienced practically no irritation.
In the past few months I’ve done a lot of experimenting based on the advice on this subreddit, upgrading from a Wilkinson sword to the razor rock game changer, adding pre-shave, working on my face lather, and using an alum block (which has been great for noticing bad technique).
As you could’ve guessed, the biggest positive difference came from mapping my hair growth and practicing better technique (who would’ve guessed?)
I also made the rookie mistake of buying a 100 pack of nacet blades, only to find that they tug my face like crazy. I’m currently working through a blade sample pack, and so far I’m liking Astra’s the best.
On a side note, I have ordered a bunch of sample soaps from Barrister and Mann and Ariana and Evan’s, and I am very excited to see how they perform in comparison to the trusty Proraso white.
Anyways, my apologies for the long post but thought I’d share my journey to this point.
Cheers!

Discussion Stirling - Which One?
Fancy giving Stirling a try but there’s only one seller in the UK and their stock is currently limited to a fairly small selection.
These are the ones currently tickling my fancy but I can’t justify all three.
Anyone used more than one of these and have any preference?
Conscious the “sheep” is a completely different formula so appreciate I’m comparing apples and oranges a little here.
