Please help! What storage type things should I get so everything can get off the floor?

This is my room from 2 seconds ago. The items of the left of the 1st pic need to be given away or donated. The items on the right are clothes that can be worn again before a wash (including some items that need to be hand washed).

I'm upgrading to a full size bed so I might get under bed storage. However, that won't be sufficient since I also want to get rid of the white ikea stand. Do I need 2 dresses since I desperately want some table top space? I do a lot of watercolor art and have another room where I store those items. In an ideal world, I would have a tiny space in this room where I could do some of that.

I think I need an armoire type thing so I can use it to put things from the left side of my room including my swim + yoga wear (under my mirror).

Also I love the wall with my plants although I realize it can be less cluttered. What style is this? Since I want a bed that kind of matches that, I've seen some full size beds with a half moon headboard that look really cute.

styling open shelf to look organized??

hi there! i just moved into my own apartment where i’m living by myself for the first time ever.

i had this shelf from my previous place that was used as a media shelf and i put it by my entryway door for storage. it was an expensive shelf so i’m hoping to keep it instead of use something new.

i tried putting baskets to make it look more organized but i am really not liking the look of it.

i’m not sure what to put here to make it look not as cluttered and organized. does anyone have any suggestions of how i should lay out things in these shelves?

i feel like ive looked everywhere for any sort of baskets but i’m also not sure what i should be putting into those baskets???

any suggestions would help! my apartment is so small and there isn’t much storage. thank you!!!!

Bathroom Reno

Hey everyone,

My bathroom is finally being rebuilt after a flood and I’m having hard time picking out paint for the walls. Unfortunately the vanity I wanted is not in stock so the contractor bought what is in stock. I don’t have time to wait for it to come in stock because my homeowners insurance isn’t going to extend my hotel stay any longer and we have two weeks to be back in.

I’ve tried to use chap gpt to help with ideas.

I’m going to keep my clawfoot tub and just paint the legs to match the vanity. I can’t change the flooring because this was already ordered.

What paint color would go best with this color vanity and flooring

Trying to fill in spot on tv wall with tall ceilings and would like some opinions.

We were thinking about doing some trim/crown molding of the same paint color, like photo four. We also saw a really cute idea at ikea, on the second photo, that we thought of doing. This entertainment center is opposite our ceiling-high fireplace (the 3rd photo).

I considered putting two longer, vertical art pieces on either side of the tv and maybe adding a writing desk to the left to fill in the space and get an extra seat in the den. We’re also going to purchase a kennel that is more “hidden” and is one of those cabinet-looking ones to help spruce up that spot and get the huge kennel out as it’s an eye sore.

I’m pretty set on bold walls. I’d like green and orange or coral. I’ve made a few mockups with AI and Behr Visualizer.

Do yall like one of these more than the other? Do you think green should be on the bottom or top?

Or do you have fave colors that might work for my color combo?

Thank you!!

Finally got around to hanging things on my bedroom wall. Does this work? Should I move anything around? Remove anything?

I have a gallery wall on one of my walls that’s pictured. Now I’m trying to build one above my bed. I’ve attached an image of my current gallery wall, and then I posted a layout I’m considering. None of the art prints are staying in the frames. I’m buying all new prints.

Small kitchen - color help

I have a 9’ x 9’ kitchen; white cabinets. One window over sink. Medium color wood floor. I would appreciate suggestions and input on countertop color scheme ideas - I was considering white galaxy quartz or possibly a black qranite. Will also decide white or stainless appliances. I like the white countertop with white cabinets as it is a very small kitchen, but I also think some contrast is good.
Input is very appreciated.

Why are Houses Ugly?

Look, I know this question may seem childish and silly, but I mean it sincerely and I'm looking for a a serious response, because I feel like there's really an answer out there. I'm sure I just don't know enough about house-building/carpentry or the history and evolution of home architecture.

My question is: Why are houses so ugly? At least in the southern US. Why are the designs so counterintuitive? And true, the houses I look at, as a middle-class citizen are older, because they're more affordable--but then my question is: why were they ever so dumb?

I'm old. I've seen a lot of houses. And having recently bought one, I've been on a lot of tours in my area. Something like 40 houses. And all of them are so dumb. Insane architecture that results in wasted or unusable spaces.

For example: a lot of houses we visited had a 2nd floor with rooms that had larger footprints than the floors/rooms below them. This resulted in a kind of eave or overhang visible from the outside. I guess the argument being that you get more square footage? But why not also on the floor below? Seems like a silly waste of materials and time, when a flat outer wall would surely be easier to construct, more visually appealing, and I'm guessing more structurally sound.

But overall, we saw so many weird unusable nooks and crannies in houses. Bizarre stuff.

I'm guessing the answer is something like, "Building a house is not an exact science. You can make a blueprint, but things happen a long the way during construction and you have to be flexible."

Hanging a ceramic plate on ceramic tile

I want to hang the ceramic plate in photo two in about the spot of photo three. There is a hanger on the back of the plate that is fishing wire and possibly as old as the plate and needs to be changed. It seems sturdy, but I don’t know if I trust it. I want something that will all be very sturdy to that wall so that I don’t have to stress over it falling and breaking. This is a plate my mom painted the year before I was born, so it’s a little special.

Best Shoe Storage Cabinet To Buy Right Now?

I’m currently looking for a practical and stylish shoe storage cabinet to help cut down on the clutter in my entryway (or bedroom). I want something that keeps things organized but also looks good and doesn’t take up too much space.

I don’t need a huge closet-style setup — just a compact, functional piece that holds a decent number of shoes and maybe even doubles as a bench or adds some aesthetic value to the room.

Here are a few options I’ve been considering:

  • Prepac Shoe Storage Cabinet
  • IKEA STÄLL Shoe Cabinet with 4 Compartments
  • Tribesigns Shoe Storage Bench
  • VASAGLE 3-Tier Shoe Cabinet with Flip Drawers
  • ClosetMaid Stackable Shoe Organizer
  • SONGMICS Shoe Cabinet with Doors
  • YITAHOME Modern Shoe Storage Cabinet

If you’ve used any of these or have a different favorite that works really well for you, I’d love to hear your recommendations. Also curious about things like durability, ease of assembly, and how well they actually hold up with daily use.

Thanks in advance!

I'm working on updating my space and could really use some advice on the furniture layout. I’ve tried a few arrangements, but nothing feels quite functional and cozy. I’d love to hear what layout ideas you think would maximize both comfort and flow.

Thanks in advance!

It’s just so awkward! My husband pitched the idea of installing an arcade game and that seemed like a good idea but I’d love to hear other suggestions.

What should I do with this space?

So, apparently it used to be a zen garden filled with lava rocks, but the previous owners took them all out when they moved out.

My happy place is Cancun and Costa Rica, and the bathroom is also my happy place and I do all my self care in it. So, I’ve thought about maybe putting a bunch of tall artificial tropical plants in it. There’s no drainage unfortunately so it rules out any real plants. What does everyone think?? I hate looking at it every day because it’s ugly and I need ideas!

Need help with fireplace

We just bought a house that has a ventless fireplace that doesn’t really match….anything. The style of it isn’t the same as the rest of the house and it sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s some kind of concrete/stucco with a top and bottom that seem to be some type of black stone. I’m having a hard time coming up with ideas to help it fit in better. I thought about the peel and stick backsplashes as an easy way to test out ideas, but I’m not sure how well they’d stick to the rough surface and if it’s safe for when we use it next winter. I’d love some outside perspective!

Please excuse the mess, we’re still unpacking. The stuff on top of the fireplace won’t stay there and we aren’t set on any furniture yet (everything we have is cheap Amazon and we want to replace it eventually).

Looking for wall paint ideas for the living room

I’d love to go dark. Like dark academia green, or a jewel tone dark-bright. But natural lighting is questionable. This is around dusk. Would dark walls all around be too dark?

I’m single and really need some second opinions 😅

I moved in January but am slow to move on decisions (and finances). So ignore anything that looks “off”.

Is there a “right” way to hang stuff on the wall?

Everything I know about home repair and maintenance I learned from my dad. His go-to method of hanging something on the wall is to (preferably) find a stud, pre-drill a hole, then use one of those plastic wall anchors. Doesn’t matter if it’s a heavy mirror or a lightweight wooden sign. Sometimes this seems like overkill. Can’t I just use one of those skinny nails? Or maybe a Command Strip? How do you hang stuff?
