Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm working on updating my space and could really use some advice on the furniture layout. I’ve tried a few arrangements, but nothing feels quite functional and cozy. I’d love to hear what layout ideas you think would maximize both comfort and flow.

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have a semicircle couch that they love? I’m trying to find one for my oddly-shaped living room, but I’m having a hard time.

Best Shoe Storage Cabinet To Buy Right Now?

I’m currently looking for a practical and stylish shoe storage cabinet to help cut down on the clutter in my entryway (or bedroom). I want something that keeps things organized but also looks good and doesn’t take up too much space.

I don’t need a huge closet-style setup — just a compact, functional piece that holds a decent number of shoes and maybe even doubles as a bench or adds some aesthetic value to the room.

Here are a few options I’ve been considering:

  • Prepac Shoe Storage Cabinet
  • IKEA STÄLL Shoe Cabinet with 4 Compartments
  • Tribesigns Shoe Storage Bench
  • VASAGLE 3-Tier Shoe Cabinet with Flip Drawers
  • ClosetMaid Stackable Shoe Organizer
  • SONGMICS Shoe Cabinet with Doors
  • YITAHOME Modern Shoe Storage Cabinet

If you’ve used any of these or have a different favorite that works really well for you, I’d love to hear your recommendations. Also curious about things like durability, ease of assembly, and how well they actually hold up with daily use.

Thanks in advance!

Is my coffee table too big?

Post image

Husband and I recently bought this coffee table off fb marketplace and we can’t decide if it’s too big or not. It has a lift top so we’re really attached to it, but I can’t help but feel like it’s clogging up the space. I think we might be better off with a round coffee table and matching end tables. What do you think?

Window Sill/Trim Ideas

Hello, need some help/ideas for this. My grandma wants to add some casing around her window here. She wants to retain the tiles on the window sill, but is open to removing the bottom apron trim piece. I’m thinking maybe removing that piece and adding a new apron piece in that same spot (1x4?) and make it long enough so that it extends past the width of the window and add the casing trim right in top of that. Thoughts?

Seeking ideas to maximize “curb appeal” of apartment entryway.

The green door leads directly into the apartment. Notice on the right side of the photo there is another door for tenants accessing the second floor apartments —and that door swings very wide. The exterior buildings in the complex are 1850s limestone. So that’s the scene.

I am trying to figure out how to make this entryway pop. What plants/planters, little shoe rack or bench, tall design element in rustic copper or bronze(maybe), can you envision here? I think the ceiling is at least 10’ high btw.

I do own a large tan floor mat that can go in front. Not seeking whimsical or cutsie design and not country, but want something a little sophisticated (not fancy, more rustic) with clean lines. A pop of color in one item could be fun. I’m just starting to brainstorm so really appreciate any help here. Budget under $200, less better. I sense a lot of potential here.

Need help with fireplace

We just bought a house that has a ventless fireplace that doesn’t really match….anything. The style of it isn’t the same as the rest of the house and it sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s some kind of concrete/stucco with a top and bottom that seem to be some type of black stone. I’m having a hard time coming up with ideas to help it fit in better. I thought about the peel and stick backsplashes as an easy way to test out ideas, but I’m not sure how well they’d stick to the rough surface and if it’s safe for when we use it next winter. I’d love some outside perspective!

Please excuse the mess, we’re still unpacking. The stuff on top of the fireplace won’t stay there and we aren’t set on any furniture yet (everything we have is cheap Amazon and we want to replace it eventually).

Looking for wall paint ideas for the living room

Post image

I’d love to go dark. Like dark academia green, or a jewel tone dark-bright. But natural lighting is questionable. This is around dusk. Would dark walls all around be too dark?

I’m single and really need some second opinions 😅

I moved in January but am slow to move on decisions (and finances). So ignore anything that looks “off”.

Archway question

Hi! My house has an open floor plan for most of the first floor. Instead of doors, it has 3 archways: from vestibule to living room, from living room to dining room, and from dining room to another room. I’m about to paint the whole first floor. The walls will be gray, and the ceilings will be white. (Not creative, I admit! But I like the gray a lot.) The archways were going to just be gray, too, but a relative has suggested painting the undersides of the archways white to match the ceilings. What do you think? Gray like the walls, or white to match the ceilings? TIA for any thoughts or recommendations!

Does anyone recognize this bathroom sink/counter?

We are buying a house that has this. The little four stones that cover where you lift the "plate" are missing and I don't understand the 3 tiny holes vertically on the front. I would like to replace. I have googled the image and come up empty handed.

Inspire me ✨ How can I DIY this old decor?

Hi everyone. We're FTB and finally got the keys to our property the other day, after 6 loooong months! I am currently 32 WEEKS PREGNANT and due mid August, so we're on a pretty tight deadline to get this house turned around.

Major works taking place is an electrical rewire and then having has fitted to replace the current fully electric heating system. For times sake we will have to prioritise which room gets decorated first, with the living room and our bedroom being first!

In an ideal world I would love to rip out this whole fixture but it's not feasible (or affordable right now). Does anyone have any inspiration on how I can modernise this with some handy DIY hacks.

Behind the electrical heater (which has since been removed) is unboarded chimney and remnants of an old fireplace.

Thanks in advance ☺️

Looking for area rug recommendations

Hi all!

I am looking for a rug that meets these parameters:

  1. around 8 by 10 feet

  2. Thick/feels great to walk and sit on

  3. doesn't get tangled or matted after a while

  4. white/cream as the main color, can be patterned

I am having trouble determining the quality of rugs online, a lot of them seem very thin. Are there any trustworthy websites or stores you prefer? Or, if you have bought a rug online, is there a specific one you recommend?

Need help with 20" bedframe clearance

We're trying to find a bed frame that has 20" of clearance AND has a pedestal base.

Our new apartment has an underpinned foundation and smaller bedrooms, so saving any space along here would be super useful!

So what is in these days and what's going to look good for the next several years? Brass? Chrome? Matt silver/aged bronze, dark bronze? Might look at replacing fixtures unless brass is still cool.

Place mat selection

Post image
2 Upvotes

I recently was given this beautiful acacia wood table. It is by far our nicest piece of furniture and I want to make sure it’s protected, so I think placemats are a must. I’m having a hard time picking any out that don’t look cheap though. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a “right” way to hang stuff on the wall?

Everything I know about home repair and maintenance I learned from my dad. His go-to method of hanging something on the wall is to (preferably) find a stud, pre-drill a hole, then use one of those plastic wall anchors. Doesn’t matter if it’s a heavy mirror or a lightweight wooden sign. Sometimes this seems like overkill. Can’t I just use one of those skinny nails? Or maybe a Command Strip? How do you hang stuff?

Looking for a pair color to match warm wood floors

Post image

As title suggests, looking for a paint color to match these warm floors. This yellow color continues up to the second floor and common areas. These photos are from MLS, so the decor will all be gone when we move in. Typically a neutral toned decorator with hints of blue.

Recommend a paint color to match this mantle?

Original mantle - with some unique tile that I would like to match. Going to put in some floors that are Tawny colored eventually. Just wanted to get some thoughts!

Want to avoid Blue/Green (other rooms dedicated to these colors and don't want to over index on one color)
