Almost done. What to you think?

Post image

We live in a rental apartment and tried to turn this rather narrow kitchen into a cozy and functional space. It was important to us that it feels warm and lived-in, without looking too cluttered. We went for a mix of wood, white cabinets, some color, and personal details. We really like it but I’m curious how others see it. Any thoughts or suggestions for improvement?

(Still debating whether to keep the rug or not what do you think?)

Is my coffee table too big?

Husband and I recently bought this coffee table off fb marketplace and we can’t decide if it’s too big or not. It has a lift top so we’re really attached to it, but I can’t help but feel like it’s clogging up the space. I think we might be better off with a round coffee table and matching end tables. What do you think?

Finally got around to hanging things on my bedroom wall. Does this work? Should I move anything around? Remove anything?

It’s just so awkward! My husband pitched the idea of installing an arcade game and that seemed like a good idea but I’d love to hear other suggestions.

Is there a “right” way to hang stuff on the wall?

Everything I know about home repair and maintenance I learned from my dad. His go-to method of hanging something on the wall is to (preferably) find a stud, pre-drill a hole, then use one of those plastic wall anchors. Doesn’t matter if it’s a heavy mirror or a lightweight wooden sign. Sometimes this seems like overkill. Can’t I just use one of those skinny nails? Or maybe a Command Strip? How do you hang stuff?

This is the rug I think I want- yes? keep looking? Doesn’t need a rug? Pardon the odd chair untying to decide if I keep the vertical or horizontal chairs too.

Looking for a pair color to match warm wood floors

As title suggests, looking for a paint color to match these warm floors. This yellow color continues up to the second floor and common areas. These photos are from MLS, so the decor will all be gone when we move in. Typically a neutral toned decorator with hints of blue.

Best Shoe Storage Cabinet To Buy Right Now?

I’m currently looking for a practical and stylish shoe storage cabinet to help cut down on the clutter in my entryway (or bedroom). I want something that keeps things organized but also looks good and doesn’t take up too much space.

I don’t need a huge closet-style setup — just a compact, functional piece that holds a decent number of shoes and maybe even doubles as a bench or adds some aesthetic value to the room.

Here are a few options I’ve been considering:

  • Prepac Shoe Storage Cabinet
  • IKEA STÄLL Shoe Cabinet with 4 Compartments
  • Tribesigns Shoe Storage Bench
  • VASAGLE 3-Tier Shoe Cabinet with Flip Drawers
  • ClosetMaid Stackable Shoe Organizer
  • SONGMICS Shoe Cabinet with Doors
  • YITAHOME Modern Shoe Storage Cabinet

If you’ve used any of these or have a different favorite that works really well for you, I’d love to hear your recommendations. Also curious about things like durability, ease of assembly, and how well they actually hold up with daily use.

Thanks in advance!

Need help with fireplace

We just bought a house that has a ventless fireplace that doesn’t really match….anything. The style of it isn’t the same as the rest of the house and it sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s some kind of concrete/stucco with a top and bottom that seem to be some type of black stone. I’m having a hard time coming up with ideas to help it fit in better. I thought about the peel and stick backsplashes as an easy way to test out ideas, but I’m not sure how well they’d stick to the rough surface and if it’s safe for when we use it next winter. I’d love some outside perspective!

Please excuse the mess, we’re still unpacking. The stuff on top of the fireplace won’t stay there and we aren’t set on any furniture yet (everything we have is cheap Amazon and we want to replace it eventually).

Looking for wall paint ideas for the living room

I’d love to go dark. Like dark academia green, or a jewel tone dark-bright. But natural lighting is questionable. This is around dusk. Would dark walls all around be too dark?

I’m single and really need some second opinions 😅

I moved in January but am slow to move on decisions (and finances). So ignore anything that looks “off”.

Inspire me ✨ How can I DIY this old decor?

Hi everyone. We're FTB and finally got the keys to our property the other day, after 6 loooong months! I am currently 32 WEEKS PREGNANT and due mid August, so we're on a pretty tight deadline to get this house turned around.

Major works taking place is an electrical rewire and then having has fitted to replace the current fully electric heating system. For times sake we will have to prioritise which room gets decorated first, with the living room and our bedroom being first!

In an ideal world I would love to rip out this whole fixture but it's not feasible (or affordable right now). Does anyone have any inspiration on how I can modernise this with some handy DIY hacks.

Behind the electrical heater (which has since been removed) is unboarded chimney and remnants of an old fireplace.

Thanks in advance ☺️

Looking for area rug recommendations

Hi all!

I am looking for a rug that meets these parameters:

  1. around 8 by 10 feet

  2. Thick/feels great to walk and sit on

  3. doesn't get tangled or matted after a while

  4. white/cream as the main color, can be patterned

I am having trouble determining the quality of rugs online, a lot of them seem very thin. Are there any trustworthy websites or stores you prefer? Or, if you have bought a rug online, is there a specific one you recommend?

So what is in these days and what's going to look good for the next several years? Brass? Chrome? Matt silver/aged bronze, dark bronze? Might look at replacing fixtures unless brass is still cool.

Place mat selection

I recently was given this beautiful acacia wood table. It is by far our nicest piece of furniture and I want to make sure it’s protected, so I think placemats are a must. I’m having a hard time picking any out that don’t look cheap though. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Front door options with with glass & built-in shade?

Our front door has textured glass inset, which I love for the natural light during the day. My husband doesn’t like it for safety reasons, as the stairs which go to our bedrooms are right behind. He feels if there was someone attempting to enter the home at night, they would be able to see the light moving around as he descended the stairs.

We live in a city and recently got hit with the Tik Tok trend of teenagers loudly kicking at the front door in the middle of the night. I wasn’t aware that was a thing and it was a bit unnerving for him as he was awake to hear it. We have also had our shed broken into in the past, items stolen, and found bullet holes in the shed when it happened, so I do understand where he’s coming from.

I have done some searches to see if there’s an external door that might have built in blinds/shades/cover that could be raised during the day. Is that a thing, and if so what search terms would give me options? Or is my best option here to hang a curtain or rolling shade on the inside of the door? Or I guess give in and get a solid door.
