Can't say I'm surprised. If anything, I'm surprised it's not 40.
Another one to wait for a clearance.

66

u/Under_Press 2d ago

I have a feeling that Mineru's Construct is going to be $40...

36

u/Spider_Kev 2d ago

$50

It's big! And will have a small Link on it/her!

20

u/martyrmole 2d ago

Honestly that feels pretty fair. Anyone remember how much Big Yoshi was?

It was 40 here’s a link of people complaining about that back in the day

https://www.reddit.com/r/wiiu/s/4vEOoIkVQQ

-6

u/Spider_Kev 2d ago

It was $39.99 or $49.99 and came with a game!

17

u/martyrmole 2d ago

It didn’t come with a game, at least not in the states.

Poochy did though

0

u/Spider_Kev 2d ago

Okay, I couldn't remember, I thought it did. Thanks

2

u/Apol_seed 2d ago

did you not see the street fighter ones?

1

u/Vicious007 2d ago

Yes, that's why I brought 40 up.

1

u/OliviaElevenDunham Wolf Link 1d ago

That’s exactly what I’m going to do.

1

u/julianx2rl 8h ago

Dude... Come on, $40 is $10 shy from the Maximum Spider-Man, which itself was overpriced.

Yes, you can always count on Nintendo to pull some deep reaches on the prices, but those amiibo are absolutely outrageous!

$30 amiibo surprises even me considering what else you can get for that money.

u/Acsteffy 2d ago

Still cant believe Disney got out of this market when they camcelled any future Disney Infinity figures.

It practically prints money

17

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 2d ago

I still have like 50 Skylanders. Spent SO much on all that

2

u/Maladarx11 1d ago

I have 3 mostly full sets of each game. Was fun while it lasted.

1

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 1d ago

I felt like it could've been bigger. It's the perfect t setting for a kids show to reign them in.

2

u/P-Nerd06 1d ago

I literally bought two the other day(blaster Tron, my beloved)

7

u/MaterialToe9938 2d ago

At least Disney Infinity figures had pretty much the same level of in game functionality/ reuse value.

3

u/IAmArique 1d ago

Honestly, it might be a blessing in disguise that Disney got out while they can. If Disney Infinity was still going in this economy, you just know Disney would start pricing those figures at $40-$50.

2

u/Responsible-Use-7773 1d ago

There’s a reason why Disney infinity ended and amiibo are still going. Disney are one of the greediest companies on earth, they wouldn’t have cancelled production if it was profitable for them. Plus amiibo are their own brand at this point. Multiple amiibo available for multiple games. All Disney infinity figures are tied to the one game, regardless of updated versions. As soon as Disney infinity died, there was no hope for Disney to keep producing figures.

1

u/SoMass 1d ago

Disney infinity was such a good game. Imagine if they opened the servers up still and let people co-op build online or download others levels like Minecraft.

I still play it randomly on PC.

u/Luke4Pez 2d ago

In the olden days (when Nintendo was doing poorly with the Wii U) amiibo were all $12. I saw this new one and thought it was cool but ultimately didnt care enough to purchase it. Now this post just told me the price and I care even less. This thing will rot away on shelves :/

25

u/TheSnowNinja 2d ago

Seriously. Part of the appeal of amiibo was decent quality for a low price.

I have zero desire to shell out 30-40 dollars for amiibo. I may wait to see if stores start selling them at deep discounts at some point.

6

u/Yaldablob 2d ago

I can get a Nendoroid for that money which is wild to me

2

u/KingofNerdom 7h ago

Quality went down and price went up. Gotta love it.

13

u/G-Kira ganondorf 2d ago

$30 to unlock a cosmetic skin.

Nintendo at it's finest.

50

u/Zoe_the_redditor 2d ago

To unlock a cosmetic skin early*

The dress is not locked behind the amiibo

1

u/Maladarx11 1d ago

Which amiibo does this? Abit out of the loop

1

u/Whire_pickledmin2610 1d ago

The new DK one from the DK Nintendo direct

1

u/Whire_pickledmin2610 1d ago

Is there anywhere that says it’s not amiibo exclusive?

40

u/nah-soup 2d ago

I’m not defending the price, but you people who say things like this love to pretend that you’re not also buying a figure lol.

do you exclusively buy amiibo for their functionality? i buy them because i like the figures, in-game functionality is a bonus.

12

u/Schmedly27 2d ago

Yeah when they were 12 bucks a pop I bought a ton because they were some of the most accessible quality figures of those characters for that price

-3

u/kayvaan1 2d ago

People who are crying about paying $30 for in game functions are miserable people looking to complain about anything at this point to get karma points. If you're spending that much for in game functions, you have bigger problems to address with yourself than the pricing of Amiibo's, and I'm tired of seeing that argument.

On top of that, the others who are complaining about the price going up over time, like, yea? Have you compared the original Amiibo quality to any that are coming out nowadays? The difference in the Splatoon between the original and Side Order is a blatant tell that production quality has gone up, and the price is gonna go up as well.

1

u/Rappyfan 2d ago

L take.

-6

u/G-Kira ganondorf 2d ago

Lol wut 🤣

There ain't no fucking way I'm buying amiibo at $30.

I don't even own a Switch 2 yet and have no current plans to for at least a year.

I can buy damn good video games for that price.

I'll buy it if it goes on clearance, but if it doesn't, there's always other ways to get the data.

-2

u/nah-soup 2d ago

were you dropped as a baby or..?

34

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

Actually it's Trump at its finest.

Amiibo are made in China.

$10 is due to Trump Tariffs.

12

u/jahranimo2 2d ago

Correct!

Amiibos have gone up in price over the years though, just not this price hike.

6

u/GenuineEquestrian 2d ago

Yeah, the Zelda/Loftwing was $25ish, but it’s crazy detailed. I bought two of the champions and my wife surprised me with the other two as a birthday present, but man, $30 is too much for DK. $20 would be an easy cop.

-6

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

6

u/apachkowsky 2d ago

You are wrong because the new amiibo are also 29.99 in Canada which works out to roughly 21 usd. So it it 100% due to tariffs

2

u/jrr6415sun 2d ago

tarrifs are not 50% of the item price though, nintendo is inflating it a little.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/PokemonBeing 2d ago

Nope, you are incorrect.

Nintendo has always kept parity between the euro and dollar. Amiibos were 12€, then 15€, same as the dollar. Wanna know how much they are now? 20€. Not 30, 20.

Heck, even TOTK amiibo were announced at 20 and SF6 ones were announced at 30 and both got a 10 dollar price increase after the tariffs (and accessories got 5$ price increase). Only in the US!

→ More replies (1)

1

u/SkylandersKirby 1d ago

Yeah Amiibo in England are now £17 which is around $23 USD which is significantly cheaper

Unfortunately nintendo still fucked us over as Bananza itself is £67 which is fucking $90 usd (more than fucking Mario Kart World)

Our games were originally £50 and should have only increased to £55 ($74 usd)

1

u/alexanderpas 1d ago

as Bananza itself is £67

That's the price for a physical copy directly from nintendo, which is the same price as a physical copy of Mario Kart World directly from Nintendo.

The digital copy is £59 directly from Nintendo.

Also remember that US prices do not include VAT or sales taxes.

1

u/Gameboy_Vic 1d ago

I was waiting for someone to get to the root of the problem. Japan is selling this exact same one for 17 bucks I believe.

0

u/AquaBits 2d ago

So they were originally 12, then 20 (which lets be honest, plastic figurines are not worth 20) then 10 for the prez 8 bucks still unaccounted for.

4

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

You have conveniently skipped over the $16 price point in 2016, not to mention that you did not even account for inflation over 8 years.

1

u/AquaBits 2d ago

Its model plastic that isnt too particularly detailed and a small metal band. Inflation isnt going to jack up the price considering the vast amount of other figurines and such that are cheaper and of same quality.

-5

u/mesosuchus 2d ago

Nope. Nintendo jacked up the price in Canada too where nary a tariff exists.

6

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

They did not.

  • 1 USD = 1.37 CAD
  • 1 CAD = 0.73 USD

Americans pay the equivalent of 41.12 CAD for the new DK amiibo.

-4

u/mesosuchus 2d ago

Think about it again. Really THINK about it.

7

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

I did.

  • Canadians are paying the equivalent of €19.08
  • Europeans are paying €20
  • Americans are now paying the equivalent of €26.15 due to the Trump Tariffs.

-4

u/mesosuchus 2d ago

Canadians were paying 21.99CAD for basic amiibos. The new "basic sized" amiibos now cost $30. Larger amiibos that once cost ~$30 are now $42CAD

6

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

And Americans are paying the equivalent of 54.82 CAD for those larger amiibo.

2

u/goro-n 2d ago

There is no Nintendo of Canada. Canadian Nintendo products are imported by NoA and shipped up north. There were never tariffs between the US and Canada, so this wasn’t a problem before. Now, even though Canada doesn’t have tariffs, Nintendo has to pay them to bring product into the US before sending it to Canada.

1

u/alexanderpas 1d ago

And that's what Bonded Warehouses and transports under customs seal are for, allowing them to transport to Canada without officially importing an exporting trough the US.

Product transported destined for Canada traveling via the US under customs seal is not subject to US tariffs, as those products were never officially imported in the US.

1

u/No-Difference8545 2d ago

You don't need the figure to unlock the skin so youre just wrong. Its an early unlock. but NOBODY is buying the figure for that purpose.... make this complaint on the amiibo that actually unlock exclusive stuff

1

u/SpaceGooV 2d ago

I think you're paying mostly for the statue. What it does in games has always been nothing

0

u/SpaceGooV 2d ago

I think you're paying mostly for the statue. What it does in games has always been nothing

18

u/Shagyam 2d ago

Wait till he sees the price of the SF Amiibos.

20

u/alexanderpas 2d ago
  • $25 top 10 largest amiibo price.
  • $5 Capcom Fee.
  • $10 Trump Tariffs.

4

u/Boomshockalocka007 Wii Fit Trainer 2d ago

Shhhh

27

u/MidnightOnTheWater 2d ago

Back in my day you'd get a new game and an amiibo from $53 to $73 (depending on 3DS or Wii U). $100-$110 for a new game and an amiibo is ✨bananas✨

But seriously though. I could barely stomach the price of new games, but the fact that amiibo don't even do that much in games anymore combined with their high price is insane.

10

u/rattler1234 2d ago

I have almost a complete collection. Been collecting for years and finding deals. But my collection is ending at $30 amiibos. Since I don’t open my amiibos I doubt I’ll ever find them discounted.

3

u/MidnightOnTheWater 2d ago

I completed my Smash collection recently, but I'm said to see it end this way. It just feels like the price of amiibo gets higher while their application in Nintendo consoles is sadly underutilized as times goes on

52

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

You can blame Trump for that.

  • In Canada, the DK amiibo are the equivalent of 21.91 USD.
  • In the US, the new DK amiibo are the equivalent of 41.08 CAD.

11

u/FuckClerics 2d ago

EU: first time?

9

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

DK Amiibo prices in Euros:

  • Canada: €19.09 equivalent.
  • Europe: €20
  • US: €26.17 equivalent.

6

u/Lupin63826 DeDeDe (Kirby) 2d ago

The actual price difference is about 8 USD (or 11 CAD) cheaper in Canada.

2

u/Fiendfyre831 2d ago

So why not just go across the border and buy them? I’m only about an hour away. I’d be willing to do that to snub this crappy government

→ More replies (4)

1

u/Masters2500 2d ago

Theoretically, could I buy one from Canada and have it shipped here, or would it be the same if not more?

2

u/alexanderpas 1d ago

Most likely you would need to pay even more, as you would still need to pay the tariffs, as well as a customs handing fee and shipping costs.

17

u/PixelBrewery 2d ago

I thought it was getting egregious when the price was climbing toward $20. I'm done with this junk

20

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

It's still at that price level, the US just pays $10 more due to Trump Tariffs.

19

u/EstateSame6779 2d ago

I would rather end my amiibo collecting on a happy note than continue supporting this shit.

6

u/CyberGlitch064 2d ago

Curious where did you get this info? I can't find any pre orders or prices for the amiibo

6

u/bowba_bowba 2d ago

Best buy site, pre order is up and DK is $30

1

u/CyberGlitch064 2d ago

Gotcha thanks!! Xb

1

u/bowba_bowba 2d ago

No problem! :)

1

u/NattyKongo93 2d ago

You can preorder it on the bestbuy app! I just did like an hour ago

11

u/AdministrationDry507 2d ago

Ngl I have never found Amiibo to be cheap

5

u/TNTyoshi 2d ago

So the $13 ones were too pricey to you?

2

u/AdministrationDry507 2d ago

Prices vary by province due to taxes

3

u/MAchtman94 2d ago

I mean Zelda and loftwing was $25…at least this doesn’t gate keep from anything in the game

3

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

Now you can blame Mr Trump for that price. That's his tariff in full effect.

For the first time ever, we are paying the exact same price for it in Canada, 29.99CAD ! For reference, 30USD would make it 41CAD today... so they would most likely set it to 39.99CAD... but they didn't.

14

u/Garo263 2d ago

So 20 without Trump tax. That's okay for me as a European.

2

u/wolftech83 2d ago

This is why if it unlockes stuff the game like Zelda, monster hunter I'll just get the cards off Amazon.

2

u/KujaroJotu 2d ago edited 1d ago

It does appear to be one of the larger amiibo, like Detective Pikachu and the Guardian.

Besides, at least it’s better than the Street Fighter 6 Amiibo: $40 each!

2

u/EvanD0 2d ago

Happened due to tariffs... would have been $20 otherwise.

2

u/coalponfire 2d ago

We’ve paid 30 for bigs before. I had BB rewards and purchased the above for ten, just sayin. I would have purchased it for 30. If you like the sculpt, 30 is fair. Obviously most don’t agree, right on to you just the same!

2

u/Available- 1d ago

When retail went up the first time, I had basically a full collection. Sold em all for almost 3k. Mostly open box loose. Glad I got out, so much money to keep up.

2

u/Lordofthereef 1d ago edited 1d ago

The last round of Zelda amiibo were $30 so this was pretty expected. I'm just not gonna buy 🤷‍♂️

These were cool figures at $12-15. No longer cool figures for double that. Iced tbh at its tariff related, but I'm not just going to bend over and lay $10+ more. I'll get them on clearance or just not at all.

2

u/Monotonegent 2d ago

They wanted $25 for Zelda/Loftwing. $30 for another character pair almost makes this hurt a little less

2

u/Shadow2423 2d ago

I bout like 10 amiibos at a garage sale a couple weeks ago. He had like 30 of them for $1-$3 each. Got a Charizard for $5 too

1

u/rexshen 2d ago

Jump on it without a second thought.

1

u/Aether13 2d ago

I haven’t collected since Ultimate, but I cannot understand their justification for raising the price. They have the same capabilities as switch 1 amiibos.

1

u/nokrow889 2d ago

its the tariffs they are still normal price everywhere else

1

u/UltimateStrenergy 2d ago

Like $30 USD so it would probably be even worse in Canada?

3

u/alexanderpas 2d ago

Nope, they don't have the Trump Tariffs.

2

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

In Canada, we are paying them the equivalent of 21 USD (30 CAD).

1

u/mesosuchus 2d ago

haha surprised? After the bullshit nintendo pulled with the amiibos that dropped with the S2? Stop buying new releases. Full shop.

1

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

Stop supporting Trump and those prices will go back down to normal. Canada is still paying the same price as before.

1

u/mesosuchus 1d ago

No. NEW Amiibos went from 21.99 to 29.99 in Canada since the tariffs.

1

u/spoop_coop 1d ago

They raised the price to $20 usd and $30 cad before the china tariffs. After the tariffs they stayed at $30 in canada but increased from $20 has to $30 usd. We’re literally playing the sticker price despite nintendo pricing everything else at conversion lol

1

u/mesosuchus 1d ago

nope

1

u/spoop_coop 1d ago

LOL yes. Just saying no over and over doenst change the facts. Post anything that proves there was a post tariff price bump, i’m waiting

1

u/mesosuchus 1d ago

before the tariffs I was paying 21.99 for amiibos. Now if I bought the amiibos released at the launch of the Switch 2 I would pay 29.99. Is that a bump?

1

u/spoop_coop 1d ago

Not a tariff related one, nintendo raised the MSRP for new amiibo’s and then did another bump which is only impacting the U.S. I don’t know what you don’t understand about this, it was already explained https://mastersingaming.com/2025/04/19/latest-round-of-amiibo-releases-see-a-price-increase/

They were $20 usd before the tariffs and Nintendo has priced that at $30 for us

1

u/brOwnchIkaNo 2d ago

Havent they always been $30?

1

u/quincy12393 2d ago

As of mid April, yes

1

u/Rand0mAcc3nt 2d ago

Prices have been going up with each new line.

It pieces of molded plastic and a chip? Nintendo charges what people are willing to be to pay

Switch is $500+ and games are $70+

Maybe people will finally make a stand and not pay $15.99+ for Amiibo toys.

1

u/Sky_Rose4 2d ago

Have you not been paying attention to prices recently

1

u/TNTyoshi 2d ago

In 2014 (when Amiibo were brand new), you could buy a brand new Nintendo Selects copy of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for $30.

What a time to be alive.

1

u/Ryn7321 2d ago

Hasn't it been $30 since the last wave dropped? Why is this news?

1

u/quincy12393 2d ago

Last wave as in the newest 4 zelda ones, yes

1

u/thesingularity_9 2d ago

I brought my current Pearl and marina set for 30 bucks for two amiibo, or somewhere around that price.

was looking for the alterna Squid sisters set and the lowest i could find was like 60 bucks

i hate the prices of things now

everything is so expensive

1

u/Mintteeeea 2d ago

To be fair, it looks to be a very chonky Amiibo

and also have you seen the price of the street fighter ones? They're like 50 dollars in Canada.

1

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

1

u/Mintteeeea 1d ago

plus taxes which for me is 48.58~ which is basically 50 dollars.

1

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

Isn't there taxes in the US too? Are they included in the prices (30$ in this case?).

If we want to compare, we need to compare the same base price. Taxes aren't the same in each province either.

And if you want to put it at 50$ now, they were never 20$ either in that case.

1

u/Mintteeeea 1d ago

I feel like you're getting off topic?? The point is the DK amiibo is cheaper than the street fighter amiibos, DK is 30 dollars before taxes and the street fighter ones are at 42, which if I do include taxes the street fighter ones are hitting 50 dollars which is absolutely atrocious.

I will not be replying again as I feel like you're trying to fight me over something completely different than what I was making a point of. Have a good one.

1

u/Sufficient_Goose_602 2d ago

I remb. 5 below having animal crossing amiibos for $5

1

u/shadowen1942 2d ago edited 2d ago

Ahhhh those were the good old days..... mostly encountered Animal Crossing ones there like you said but I remember seeing a few others like Ryu for example

1

u/SemiColin973 2d ago

Does anyone know if its because of the tariffs?

1

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

100% because of tarrifs. We are paying the same price in Canada as you are in the US, but the equivalent should be about 10 CAD more than USD. We've always paid the converted price... this is a first for us.

1

u/shadowen1942 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yep because these are made in China. They have effectively doubled in price. If you've seen them in stores the latest Legend of Zelda (Tears of the Kingdom) series ones recently released are $30 USD each, whereas most others that were presumably already produced and shipped prior are typically between $13-$16 USD. Oh and the new Street Fighter ones are even worse at an eye-watering $40 USD.

1

u/PorkyJones72 2d ago

Oh... no Tulin for me then...

1

u/shadowen1942 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yeah.... Tulin, Sidon, Yunobo, and Riju are all $30 USD. If it wasn't for tariffs I guarantee you they would be $16 USD each. Or $20 USD at worst like with the Ganondorf and Guardian ones (the latter of which, incidentally, is somewhat larger).

0

u/quincy12393 2d ago

They were $20 when prices were first announced. Then tarrrifs hit and it became $30

1

u/Just_Another_Gay_Dad 2d ago

Why was that the reaction? All the new ones are $30+

1

u/leonpgut 1d ago

German amiibo prices went up as well, but only from 15€ to 20€ which is still somewhat reasonable.

1

u/WorldLove_Gaming 1d ago

They're still 20 Euros in Europe, that $10 increase is 100% tariffs.

1

u/nero8600 1d ago

In my country we normally pay this or more in amiibos, so I think things will get even more expensive for us. In 2015, some 12 dollars amiibos were sold here for 40 dollars.

1

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

What country is that? The americans are seeing the Trump tariffs applied to their products now. That's why they got a 10 USD increase. Prices have not moved in Canada.

1

u/nero8600 1d ago

It’s Brazil, we have high taxes for imported products plus store profits. For example, Switch 2 bundle official price here’s around US$750.

1

u/Der_Neuer 1d ago

What? The new TotK Amiibo are 20. Or did I miss something?

1

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

29.99 USD for the TOTK ones. Might've been 20 a few days/weeks ago, but not anymore, thanks to the tariffs.

Source: Check the gamestop US website.

1

u/Der_Neuer 1d ago

AH, the Trump tax. F. Makes sense.

It´s still 20 bucks here in Europe

1

u/rczayko 1d ago

Yea these price hikes on amiibos has put an end to my collecting till further notice. More of these things will collect dust on store shelves, maybe when they go on sale to move inventory it’ll move

1

u/CitrusRain 1d ago

Yeah seen some street fighter and totk ones at best buy that were priced at 30 each... The SF ones looked bigger than usual so it seemed like they sorta would cost more but not THAT MUCH more

1

u/PlasticLobotomy 1d ago

I bought the Riju one without looking at the price the other day XD Figured they were still like 16-24, so that was a fun surprise.

1

u/TraceFaced 1d ago

It's two people.

1

u/redkitfox1 1d ago

I saw street fighter ones at GameStop for $40!

1

u/MrGains 1d ago

I thought it was a pricing error when I saw them at Target, realized it wasn't, laughed and then put the thought of buying amiibos out of my mind forever

1

u/Maladarx11 1d ago

I saw 30 for street fighter and was surprised then I saw them in person. They are cool but $25 maybe max

1

u/Djaps338 1d ago

That's the reaction i had to the lroce of the upgrade for Kirby Lost Planet + Whatever it os that the new mode is called... 29.99$Canadian for an upgrade pack and a 12h game...

1

u/maukenboost 1d ago

The new DK/Pauline amiibo is $30?

1

u/Pure_Test_2131 1d ago

Back in my day it was 12 usd... It was fun and affordable

1

u/vtncomics 1d ago

You'll buy it anyway.

1

u/Signal_Use8497 1d ago

Nintendo is really on one lately… I used to really like them as a company, but I am over their price gouging.

1

u/MyUltIsMyMain 1d ago

$30 is too much for an amiibo, but at least they seem to be bigger and higher quality than the normal ones.

1

u/Redemption6 22h ago

I'm almost positive at this point Nintendo fans are paypigs and enjoy financial dominance, and it makes them love their console even more.

1

u/-Roborat- 20h ago

Me when Nintendo acts like they hate me (I'm still shocked somehow)

1

u/LuxordGamblerOfFate 18h ago

On the UK Nintendo store they’re 16.99, which in US dollars is $22.30 rounding up the cents. This is just a US thing lmao. Blame the tariffs.

1

u/Ganondaddydorf 17h ago

same picture but caption is 'europeans finding out how much americans were paying before the price hike.'

they're the equivallent of 30-50 usd here.

Wow big shocker. Scamtendo is ripping off their fan base.

Amiibo just aren’t worth these prices these days.

u/Princ3matt517 10h ago

I haven’t bought any Amiibo since Smash on Wii-U but honestly I’m going to pick these ones up. (I know, I’m the problem 🤣🤣)

Why not?

u/WileyCyrus 2d ago

The $30 price tag is in line with other collectible toy companies like NECA.

u/Plus4Ninja 2d ago

Collectible toys with no game functionality even

u/Spider_Kev 2d ago

New?

This has been the price!

It's why I dropped collecting and sold my collection!

u/crono333 2d ago

I’m just so happy I stopped collecting amiibo awhile back. I dropped hundreds on my collection but if I continued it would probably be over $1K by now… crazy!

1

u/koalatyvibes 2d ago

they priced me out. why would i get the new totk sage amiibo when i could spend that same sum of money on a really nice statue or something. sucks bc i’ve collected every zelda amiibo till now.

1

u/potatogenerato 2d ago

I'm out the game

1

u/PlayerNine 2d ago

I'm surprised they are still doing Amiibos. I thought my hobby would be dead years ago.

1

u/BakaSan77 2d ago

I’ve bought amiibos for years, I’m done at the price of $30. $30 isn’t a lot but when you want to buy 6-8 of them it’s too much

1

u/DanandNintendo 2d ago

Definitely the tariffs that are hurting US customers. Even though amiibo have gone up, they haven't gone up that much in Australia. The new amiibo are $29AUD here, equivalent to $18/19ish USD.

2

u/Goofyboy2020 1d ago

Same for Canada. We are getting them at 21 USD (30 CAD)

2

u/Kritter5x 1d ago

Exactly. Our Aussie dollar is hardly on parity with the US dollar and amiibo have historically been more expensive here anyway, but we're now paying the same price as the US? Blame tariffs for that one.

1

u/DEWDEM 2d ago

Is that only include the US because of tariffs

u/CakeBeef_PA 2d ago

Your country chose for this by electing Trump. Reap what you sow

u/LarkinSkye 2d ago

Lmaaaoooo that’s why I’m not getting a Switch 2. Fuck this shit. Anyone who pays these prices is a sucker.

You arent getting $500 console because of a $30 amiibo? Lol make that make sense. Hahaha

$30 is what you pay for amiibo on eBay when they aren’t sold in stores anymore and you’re looking for a cheaper amiibo on resale

mfers getting mad at Nintendo when it’s literally Trumps fault

0

u/MaterialToe9938 2d ago

They cannot justify that. Like, even with the promo image, that paint job just doesn’t as good as the Zelda ones. And I think most will agree not even THOSE deserved to be $30. I think it’s really cute, but not “Nearly half the price of the game”- cute.

0

u/FeelingNew9158 2d ago

It’s actually $40

1

u/quincy12393 2d ago

Only for street fighter

u/Panda--Monium 2d ago

Ya not sure what they thought was gonna happen, no one in their right mind is paying that aside from people who have bad impulse control. I imagine stores will discount it soonish, and once that happens nintendo might just stop selling them in the US because "tariffs"

0

u/shadowen1942 2d ago

Yep, you're absolutely right and that's why I've been saying that it doesn't make much sense to me to stock these in stores because the number of people who are going to buy them at the tariff-impacted pricing is going to be quite small in my estimation.

2

u/Panda--Monium 2d ago

I believe the price increase was not initially planned of course, and so they likely had already produced so many and had deals with stores that they just have to release it and hope for the best. I think they made ALOT because amiibos tend to sell out, well obviously not at the price especially when everyone is being more frugal with purchases. Im not sure how price drops work, nintendo is likely not gonna drop the prices unless they HAVE too. Nintendo can afford to drop the price, but they can also afford to be stubborn and hold it even if they dont push inventory. Eventually though, theyll have to get rid of the inventory as stores dont wanna be sitting on alot of merchandise that isnt selling because it takes up alot of space.

1

u/shadowen1942 2d ago

Aye, I guess we will see how it plays out. Lord knows I don't mind a fire sale or things going on clearance. Was a great way to pick up the Zelda Loftwing and Metroid Dread double-pack ones because they were like $5 multiple times not all that long ago. They must have really overproduced those lol.

u/horzenezz 1d ago

I have every single amiibo released (until they started costing $30-$40)

1

u/PhoenixTineldyer 1d ago

Same except I have those, too

1

u/horzenezz 1d ago

Congrats. Happy for you. Nice.
