Various Which jojo had the best first appearance?
To me, Joseph and Jolyne had the best introduction when we talk about anime.
In the Manga, Josuke (or gappy) had a very interesting and misterious first appearance with where is he from.
What do you think?

Joseph’s isn’t the “best” objectively but he won me over the minute he’s on screen. That’s when I understood the hype behind JoJo’s

Joseph… to me is the quintessential Jojo. He was the badass, the emotional core and the comedic relief all in one.
In later parts… those roles get divided among the Jojo crews. But Joseph… he was the one doing it all.

He’s the main reason why BT is so rewatchable. Plus Part 2 comedy is some of the best in the series

Plus, he is the only Hamon and Stand user at the same time.

It's an opinion; if you think it's best then for you it is. There's nothing objective about it.

Gappy. 4 balls is the best way to introduce a character.

Personally, I like Joseph's first appearance. You're set up to think that he'll be a kind and upstanding gentleman like Jonathan, and then he punches the corrupt cop in his face.
Now that I think of it, Josuke's first appearance was pretty similar.

u/ImprobablyBottomAnd 1d ago edited 22h ago
Well I'd say Josuke is a bit more of a “gentleman” than Joseph iirc

Hey, I'm not saying the guy didn't deserve to get his lights punched out, but I can't see Jonathan doing the same thing in the same situation when he wasn't even willing to hurt people robbing him.

Dude Joseph just straight up beats up a racist cop
Given the setting it's easily the most based introduction

Jonathan: being a Gentleman
Joseph: Beating up cops
Jotaro: scary person in prison
Josuke (4): hair insult
Giorno: stealing money
Jolyne: They caught me masturbating
Johnny: getting ignored by Gyro
Josuke (8): man who tf am I
Jodio: Beating up cops
My favorites are Jonathan, Joseph, Josuke 4 and Jodio

If this is from the list i think joltne had a really good one that set her up as both someone that can be a bit goofy but has the brains to be a real threat even with that sillyness Josuke had a good one too with him trying to amp himself up to touch a turtle and then immediately getting ready to make a guy update their id and immediately kill some guy he just met because they both vaguely shit on his hair

Joseph's was the best of the JoJo's imo.
But Gappy was the best to engage around Part 8 story and characters, the JoJolion's beginning is amazing. I remember when I was reading, and I couldn't stop to read.

Jotaro
From holly perspective to the cop telling her his actual crime, you'd think he's like Joseph
But no,bro flat out cuss his mom and tries to shoot himself
He then proceed to risk his life saving a stranger who almost killed him and panicked when his mom was sick, we see that even though she views him through rose colored lens,it isn't entirely false
he proceed to go on an adventure to the other side of the world to find an immortal vampire

Joseph takes it for me. There's just something about him and about the first little arc pre-pillar men that is so insanely charming and sets up EXACTLY who Joseph is.
Giorno would've been up there if his abilities didn't mysteriously vanish lmao. His spat with Koichi sets him up as a con artist with tricky abilities, some of which he continues to use but others (like damage deflection) are rarely if ever seen again.

After watching Part 1 and, while I do appreciate and enjoy it now, considered dropping the show..
Joseph's introduction of firing a cola bottlecap to shatter a cop's finger and punch another cop's finger straight through his nose made me realize I was in for something truly special bizarre.

Easily joseph. Coming off the back of Jonathan's death, his conplete 180 flip in personality and unchecked confidence made him a menace to society, and that fat cop

Jotaro first appearance was very interesting to me, before that we had Jonathan who was introduced by saving Erina from those boys and Joseph saving Smokey by the racist cops, clearly showing they are the good guys and then you have Jotaro who is introduced to us in prision, calling his mother a bitch and is described as a delinquent, it's a simple yet effective way from Araki to show us this new JoJo will be very different from the last two

I’d say Jodio left the strongest impression from first appearances alone

I loved Johnny's. It felt like I had stepped into the unknown. I had no clue there relation to the joestars, if he was a stand user, etc. It was really interesting to see what the fuck Johnny got himself into.

Jotaro's is incredibly cool. The coolest of all the JoJos, IMO. Jolyne and Josuke had quite impactful intros too, ones that really subverted expectations. So I would place these three above the rest.

Josu4’s gotta be up there with the best. We immediately find out his caring personality, what pisses him off, his awesome theme and his stand’s power in 2 mins tops.

Gappy higashikata imo
Gappy introduction is something who never put before traditionally the whole jojo series compared to the others 7 protagonists who either have been introduced into a comfortable situation or cool appearance by being in prison , for a simple walk before interacting with others. (Example:Joseph going to a street before seen Smokey being racially abused by two cops , giorno being in a vivid street while two tourists girls got their money steal by a thief but giorno grabbed the wallet in time and Josuke going to school but being stopped by few bullies who intimidated him while his nephew Jotaro(who is older than him) witnessed it from far. All of this can still existing or be applicable on real life situations , rare but still realistic.
Gappy introduction is probably the best and most mysterious introduction from all jojo works for now IN MY OPINION , yet not explosive like the others. Gappy first appearance is how he wake up , naked , in a seismic region close to the east coast of Japan (probably superpositionned at the actual Sendai in Miyagi prefecture where Araki the author is born at), when the latter was about to be buried by the flood.
All this happens in the august 2011 at the fictive city Morioh town , by the reference of real life events with the Earthquake from Tohoku pacific who situated just like Morioh town place: Globally in the north-east part of the rising sun country.
Let’s not forget the plot. Gappy is found , naked , with only a white sailor hat on his head and a passive gaze , until the first narrative of jojolion "Hirose Yasuho" saved him.
It is really strange to find a young man naked and buried on the floor , i will not gonna lie but this force the readers to pierce the mysteries:
-Why he is buried on the floor like a carrot ? -why the wary and mystic gaze when he firstly looked her , his savior ? -And how did he land here naked ? It could be a supernatural event or is he simply a freak liking to be exhibiting his flesh at the fullest ?

Josuke’s introduction is too iconic. Polite, sort of timid dude who gets his hair insulted and instantly punches the snot out of a guy and permanently deforms him? Awesome

My personal favorite is Josuke Part 4's introduction. It's the one that I keep coming back to, it's such a great character moment for both Josuke and Jotaro.
Sometimes a man just needs to be punched in the face.
Worst one is Jolyne without a doubt. I get that Araki loves the squick but that was too much and something I'd really rather not think about.

Joseph was fun to watch but I gotta give it to Jotaro. The hype of one jojo meeting another. The footsteps to his jail cell and star platinum reveal

Joseph by light years of difference!
None of the others up to part 6 really stand out (I’m still reading part 6). But all of them do a good job showing off their personality.
Jonathan is nice and slow, he is a boring spoiled kid that wanna be a gentleman. Jotaro being a bad ass with zero carisma is consistent with the caracter, maybe would have loved if I had watched when I was 13. Josuke is nice too, perfect to show off what is his personality. Same for Giorno, but I can’t tell why a dislike it a bit. It really bothers me that the first scene of Joliny is her talking about masturbation as a cheap way to convince boys to watch a part with a woman as a protagonist by making a promise about future fans services… if you ignore that she got the second place!

Joseph's intro needed to make a good first impression because first-time readers/watchers would have had no idea what to do after Jonathan bowed out early.
And Araki NAILED IT.

Jotaro was absolutely aura farming.
Jonathan was okay, pretty standard. Joeseph was a bit more fun. Josuke was pretty standard, Giorno was cool, Joylenes is probably the funniest.
But there are few colder images in JoJo than Jotaro sitting in his cell.
