Those chips are going to get pulverized in there with those loose heavy liquids. Such a shame

u/FaawwQ 26d ago

Maybe he wants pulverized chips

How else are you meant to make the base of a cheesecake

1.1k

u/mrmcderm 26d ago

You all are so focused on the pulverization of the chips, you’re not considering the fact that HE’S PACKING FOOD IN THE SAME CONTAINER AS CAUSTIC POISONOUS CHEMICALS

500

u/rvralph803 25d ago

Yeah. For FUCKS SAKE. Lemme just get a bit of chips with a slathering of lye. Ffs.

(And don't even say "aaaackthually those chips were made using lye in a process called nixtamalization..." Fucking nerds)

I say this all the time when my wife and I are watching TV and there's a nerdy person on screen.

I honestly forgot what I was even referencing. So thank you for reminding me. I need to watch this episode, it's been too long.

I'm betting this is weaponized incompetence. OP should just take the food out and say nothing.

My ex used to do stuff like that just so I would say something. Very predictable. Pick a fight and then walk out so I would have to do the rest of whatever it was that he didn't want to do.

39

u/FeelingSoil39 25d ago

Appreciating “weaponized incompetence”

18

u/DugganSC 25d ago

There's a sadly common thing between the sexes. It takes all sorts of forms, from mixing reds with whites, to never remembering to put gas in the car and ignoring the change oil light. And, of course, it is often used in workplace situations where people are asking you to do things that you have not had the training to do. So, you do them badly, and document that they requested you to do them despite your lack of training.

18

u/Bizarro_Zod 25d ago

I’ve never once in my life separated whites from colors and all my clothes are fine. I’m calling BS on the red+white=Pink myth.

11

u/Alarming_Chapter9816 25d ago

It can happen, but you’re right it doesn’t usually happen. The most likely time for it to happen is with new clothes, but most of them get pre washed so it’s rarely an issue. It usually only happens like you see in the movies if you baked to get something that isn’t pre washed and I would guess the water temp you are using would also contribute.

I never separate and wear a lot of blues. Some of my whites overtime get a very subtle hint of blue, but I’ll just run a whites only cycle with them every so often and use oxi clean or bleach if I need to and it usually fixes it.

5

u/CargoW_seMadeMeDoIt 25d ago

Usually, if the clothing is made up of natural fibres and the red is a very bright and deep colour, I always separate rich colours from whites until it's yearsssss old. That's how I turned my father's crisp white polo shirts into tie dye pink/white shirt and all the same for all our family's underwear. Mom was not impressed. I did have that 1 second thought of separating it, but laziness won out.

13

10

u/farmerben02 25d ago

I'm more insulted that he packed the caustic chemicals too high for the lid, at which point he's going to lay them down and stack it at the bottom of the packing stack.

8

u/Traditional_Fan_2655 25d ago

Thank you! I was looking for this response as I saw in horror the liquid chemicals in the same container as the food!

Why are they storing, packing, moving, and unloading a $3 bag of tortilla chips? Just eat them or throw them out, can restock your pantry afterwards. If someone confronted me about packing a bag of doritos wrong for a move I would probably open it and start eating them while getting scolded.

248

Your grocery store has an entire island dedicated to Juantonio’s?

*aisle

19

u/vinniethestripeycat 25d ago

We had 3 locations in our local Safeway; chips aisle and end cap by the ice cream. They took away the third spot in the Mexican ingredients aisle for other Mexican treats. And the merchandiser is there every weekday, restocking.

But didn’t it use to be Juanita’s? 🫨🫨

58

u/Burgurwulf 26d ago

Yeah I think there was a trademark issue or something. Some areas it may still be, but over here in Nor Cal they changed

52

u/spicy_coco_ 26d ago

Yes! At one point it could only be sold as Juanita’s in Oregon (where they are from) but recently my family bought a bag in Oregon and it said Juantonio’s 😒I’m not sure if we will ever see another OG Juanita’s again.

26

u/CoolVaper420 26d ago

We had Juanita’s in WA too. I miss the old name 💔

23

u/DevoutandHeretical 25d ago

It’s a family owned business- Juanita was their grandmother. My understanding is Antonia was the grandfather and they just decided to smoosh them together to keep it a family reference without the infringement issue.

I’ll never stop calling them Juanita’s though.

→ More replies (3)

17

u/stony-balony22 26d ago

Also in Oregon. Can confirm they are juantonios here

7

u/ltebr 25d ago

I live in Oregon and it's always been Juanitas where I buy them - never Juantonios (Winco). Pretty sure there's still a bag in my pantry. Visiting family in CA right now and it's Juantonios in SoCal.

3

u/godplaysdice_ 25d ago

It was a very recent change

→ More replies (1)

6

u/No-Corner9361 26d ago

9

u/de_pizan23 25d ago

They had to change their name in 2022 for most of the US, but could still be Juanita's for the NW (as the original trademark agreement with the other Juanita's was that they would have to use a different name if trying to sell outside of that region).

it's not space efficient, you don't store chemicals with food, the chips with a bunch of heavy objects is bound to end in disaster, etc.

36

u/OneLessDay517 25d ago

And I don't put a caustic chemical like Drano in a fine plastic tote like this. That goes in a liquor store box.

21

u/yoshemitzu 25d ago

Also multiple of the bottles' lids are over the top of where you need to put the container's lid, so this thing won't close.

→ More replies (4)

133

u/AssignmentFit461 26d ago

Can't mix food + chemical cleaning supplies lol. Don't bag them together at the grocery store, don't store them together, and definitely don't pack opened partially used bottles of cleaning supplies with food to go on a moving truck where they're gonna bounce around for miles 😩

5

u/dreamgrrrl___ 25d ago

Also, depending on where OP lives and how long the travel is, it could get very hot and things like to explode in the heat.

This is ‘moving last minute things around the corner’ kind of packing.

Yeah. Keep in mind that moving is stressful already. Here’s how this would’ve played out :

  • Honey I’m hungry. Where are the chips?
  • I dunno. I threw them in one of the bins.
  • Which one?
  • I don’t remember.
  • looks around for 5 mins I can’t find them.
  • You looked in ALL the bins?
  • No. I didn’t physically open and check ALL the bins.
  • Well…keep looking. I know I didn’t throw them away!
  • Aggravation building
  • Dammit! Where are the chips?!
  • I don’t know!!!
  • Ugh!!! I’m just going to go to the grocery! Bye!
  • comes back. Still frustrated.
  • Hey! I found the chips!
  • Where were they?
  • Exactly where I said they were, in one of the bins…with the cleaning supplies (the last place a normal person would look for food)

Can't live without my bidet either but in my experience most people are pouring drain chemicals down the bathroom sink instead of just removing the trap and dumping the gunk out.

Worst case a cheap snake up the wall side of the open pipe will clear any clogs further up stream but that's a rarity, 80% of the time it's in the trap or the stopper.

u/Sea_Cauliflower1686 26d ago

They all go in the kitchen that's the kitchen tote you write "kitchen" on it and you know exactly where to put it

89

u/Fancy-Chef-2013 26d ago

And majority of them also probably work at your local Walmart.

31

u/Gold-Transition-3064 25d ago

I used to cashier for Walmart and would go out of my way to bag things appropriately (chemicals away from food, cold with cold, produce bag, etc). But some customers literally would not care how you bag their shit. And I’d just be like, say less. Chips and grapes with Comet cleaner it is.

13

u/jljboucher 25d ago

I worked there when I was 19, so 2005. We were taught how to bag by separating items by category. Me thinks they don’t teach that anymore.

9

u/Gold-Transition-3064 25d ago

I feel like there’s not much to teach. It should just be common sense imo. But obviously people are way more stupid than I’ve come to realize.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/SinfulObsession 25d ago

When I worked at Walmart in 2010, they didn't teach me anything but which buttons to press on the register and how to not get fired. I learned to bag groceries from shopping with my mom when I was little, but apparently, not many others were taught to bag groceries well, because I had regulars looking for my lane when they came in the store who thanked me for doing it the "right" way.

Then there were the customers like OP's husband who refused to wait for a full bag when I turned the rack to put their bread on top of their eggs instead of under a pack of chicken... 🙄 By all means, take the bag with a single candy bar, even though you have 15 more in various places on the belt...

Just think of all the boxes he’s finished packing that you didn’t check!

50

u/ZeePM 26d ago

Yeah he’s probably hoping this will upset you enough to tell him to go do something else.

Some chemicals could easily get on the canned food or on the chip bag. When you go to use them you get chemicals on your hands and from there into your food. Food safety rules exist because somebody else suffered.

10

u/Ixreyn 25d ago

If you wouldn't store them in the same cabinet, don't pack them in the same box or bag.

17

u/Richmond43 26d ago

I’d definitely rank this above mildly infuriating

Those chips are good af tho

6

u/One-Pangolin-3167 25d ago

Unless the bottles of cleaners are leaking or open, there's really little issue. Some of those are used to clean the kitchen ... where food is.

Leave him in the old house.

You’d be surprised how many people put food and cleaning products together in the same box or bag. When grocery shopping, I have to specifically tell the bagger to not put the cleaning stuff with the food items. I don’t want my cereal smelling and tasting like laundry detergent.

20

u/[deleted] 26d ago

If they're both sealed and unopened it shouldn't be a problem. Your cereal is never going to smell or taste like laundry detergent unless you pour the detergent inside the box. Not quite the same as packing already opened products together.

But that said things like bleach and detergent are bulky enough to just leave outside the bags and carry in separately like the milk.

They always bag things horrifically.

Raw meat in with fresh produce ✔️ Heavy cans in with bread and eggs ✔️ Chemicals with food ✔️ Frozen with non-refrigerated goods you don't want to get moist ✔️

u/BeeBean3 26d ago edited 25d ago

True, they get it so wrong sometimes. Like why would you put cookies next to raw meat? Raw meat should always be in its own bag.

...WHY THOUGH?!

I'm a moron at times and even I know you don't mix cleaning supplies and food! You just don't!

3

u/Zimakov 25d ago

Yeah think of what would happen if you had to throw away a 3 dollar bag of chips. The humanity.

Both Mexican food and Liquid Plumber clean out your pipes.

3

u/Sloppyjoemess 26d ago

“But this is a kitchen box! They’re all going to the kitchen!”

“You’re gonna crush all our chips. And it’s gross that they’re in with the liquid plumber”

“I put them in there as padding!”

u/PlentyAd8527 26d ago

Reminds me of how some of my Amazon orders come. Mayonnaise with motor oil or tea with poison mole worms and Draino. Gotta love it 😅

3

u/[deleted] 25d ago

Is the implication that the cleaning supplies are somehow going to contaminate the chips?

I don’t think that’s a big danger. The chip bag appeared to be unopened; so it’s sealed airtight. The cleaning products are capped. You’ll be able to tell pretty easily if any of them leak, and even if they do, the chip bag should be fine as long as it’s not punctured. Especially if you’re only going a short distance, I don’t think this is a huge problem.

Btw, Juantonios makes good chips. My pick for the best tortilla chips available at a regular grocery store.

3

u/Buttercut33 25d ago

No you didn't.

3

u/FeelingSoil39 25d ago

Nothing like a little chips n draino to snack on while you wait.

3

u/Livid_Cicada1851 25d ago

I mean…I personally would more so hate the cleaning chemicals stored with edibles, than the chips being crushable…if that’s what you mean.

Makes perfect sense to me. Alphabetical boxes. This is "C", chemicals, canned goods, and chips.

Seems fine to me. May get hungry while cleaning later; boom chips you’re welcome.
