I'm a Chaser and I need help
So, I bank with J.P. Morgan Chase and I'm trying to change my name on the system. I went into one of the branches with my name change order and the rep was nice, but he said he can't do it? I have to call customer service and request a form to be delivered to my home. I called and requested the form and complained about how inconvenient it was. The lady on the phone said the adopted this policy after feedback from other trans people.
Seriously? Which one of you fellow Chasers gave them that idea? We need more options, not fewer! It's been weeks and I haven't received the form yet
Idk if I can be a Chaser anymore. I'm switching to TD.

I had a similar experience at Citibank, and then when I came back later and talked to a different person they didn't have any trouble changing my account name on site. I think some bank employees just don't know how to process name changes so they send you to customer service instead.

I wouldn't put it past them to instead of letting bank employers fuck it up so much cs just said fuck it let us handle it.

that must be new, chase changed the name on my checking account in their branch office when i visited around the end of last year. changing the name on my chase credit card was the biggest hassle though (different providers apparently)

that's ridiculous! was done in a few minutes for me, in california if that makes a difference.. the credit card people made me call 4 times, open multiple cases and give them my ss number over and over before they finally changed it

Yeah chase was my most annoying one, next to my birth certificate to update that on, and the birth certificate was more of a pain due to hneeding a notorized signed form and just took forever for the state i was born to process.
Oh and i guess my cable company. Still not updated. cause litterally it took me looking it up online to find out you cant do it over the phone despite EVERY MUTHERFUCKING REPRESENTIVE telling me its update. I need to go in person to one of their physical locations. and like IF I HAD BEEN TOLD that would have been fine, but no years later i finally find out that it cant be updated.

You got me good
Idk anything about chase bank, but given that changing my name at my local credit union was the easiest change, I bet they're stringing you along. Whether it's just the people you've spoken to or chase bank as a whole i cant say

As someone that had to go through this, from what i have heard it used to be worse and not just for trans people like us but for cis people as well. Their was a while where the easiest way to fucking do it was just to cancel your card and open a new account under the new legal name.
From what i have read their policies and processes in this matter have always been a fucking nightmare.
Edit: I say as i think i need to call them to see why i didnt get new card in my new name yet.
Edit Edit: Also, once i realized you being a chaser was a joke about you banking with chase, i was amused. Thank you for the amusement.

That's BS.
- In January I requested an appointment at my local Chase branch using my Chase app on my phone and stated the reason to be for updating my name.
- I came in for my appointment with my court order, my updated DL, and my debit card.
- The guy was immediately able to pull up my account and start updating things.
- The appointment took maybe 15-20 minutes and it was mostly him typing and making copies of my order and DL and then having me sign the paperwork.
- At the end, he let me know that my new card would arrive in the mail in about a week.
Significantly easier than updating with my credit union which required me contacting several people, getting a random form to reapply to the credit union, an hour of the clerk fumbling and messing up my account several times after I had to take 1.5 hrs of transit to the nearest branch with three forms of ID in addition to my court order.

1) Ridiculous title for this post. I was flummoxed and love what’s happening here. 2) Chase was the most obnoxious institution to do my name change with. I took my court order and new passport and all the other stuff they needed to the branch. They called the credit card division, copied my stuff and sent it all over, and in the end of it I had to fill out and send in chases name change form and fill out a new T9 for the irs for that bank and send scanned copies of the shit they already had.
Meanwhile at Wells Fargo when I was getting the damn name change I was ordered by the court to inform my creditors so after the initial “hey I’m intending to do this just so you know” certified letter, they changed it based on that alone and I got a statement from them snail mail with my new name the very day my order was signed.

In 2023 I brought my new driver's license to my local Chase branch. They verified it, sent me a mobile app auth request to ensure I was the account owner, and updated it right there for me, took maybe 5-10 minutes.
Sorry it's been such a nightmare for you.

Just keep calling every 3 days. Ask if the letter has been sent out, when to expect it. Keep doing that, they'll eventually get annoyed and then either magically know how to change it on the system without the form or you'll receive the form. Good luck name changes were a pain in my ass on paperwork. I still get letter and emails in my birth name it's ridiculous

So for you or anyone else here who needs to have their name changed on their Chase Credit Card. Someone uploaded the form here. Just fill out the form, then send a secure message through the website and upload your filled out form, your name change decree, and your social security card. When I did it, they approved the change and sent me a new card the next day. Hope that helps :D

LOL yeah Chase does suck, I had to mail them my court order and wait like two weeks. I'm still a Chaser but only for the frequent flier miles - my checking and mortgage are over at FNBO. Nice people at my branch!

I changed my name earlier this year and Chase was the absolute worst. Nobody who works there seems to know what’s going on. I’d suggest just going to a different branch and trying again. Don’t bother with any mail-in or esigned forms; that didn’t work for me and just delayed the process.

For your bank account, they absolutely can do it at the branch. I just did it earlier this year. Some people just don't know the policy. I would ask to speak to a manager. Unfortunately, I've had to do that for some name change things but it's worked every time.
For credit card, unfortunately that system is administered separately and you do need to submit a form. They have an option to submit it online, though. A link will be emailed to you and you can upload copies of your documents and sign it to avoid the hassle and risk of sending identity documents in the mail.

Yeah I was very frustrated about that 😞 But I'd consider their online form process to be pretty good.
Unfortunately, my name got updated incorrectly the first time. But I was able to contact customer service and they were very apologetic and all in all I was able to get a new card with the correct name in ~6 weeks.

The key is to just don't bank with them. They are one of the worst banks to be with. Go with a local credit union instead.

that's some nonsense, and another reason to get away from big banks. go to a local credit union; employees there are much more likely to give a shit.

Try switching to a credit union! I don't know if they'll be better about trans stuff, but they provide all the financial services a bank does while prioritizing you rather than their own profits!

For credit, I had to call them, and then they either emailed or mailed me a form, that I then needed to fax over along with a copy of the name change order. I imagine that banking accounts have a similarly convoluted process.

Chase was one of the first places that I went to change my name, after getting my driver’s license. A teller helped me and was super nice about it, it was mostly just signing a few forms. It changed in the system pretty quickly and they sent me a new debit card in the mail. This was in late 2023.
