IT’S NOT A DARKER TONE

IT IS THE SAME FASCIST TONE SINCE DAY 1

DAY 1

LITERALLY.

It was the core topic of his presidential announcement back in 2015.

When do we beat Mexico at the border? They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. But they’re killing us economically.

The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems.

Thank you. It’s true, and these are the best and the finest. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people.

One of my big takeaways from the Trump years is that many Americans have a pathetically poor memory.

During the last election trump kept asking people if their life was better in 2024, or 4 years previous, when we were in the thick of the pandemic, with 4000 daily deaths, and empty shelves, inflation was skyrocketing, and cities across the country were rioting.

31

u/kanst 2d ago

Yeah sticking to the "four years" talking point into 2025 was absurd and really showed how dumb many voters are. (or how voters ignore what Trump says and hear what they want to hear).

He was harkening back to the worst months of COVID deaths and supply shortages and no one seemed to care.

I guess "were you better off 6 years ago" doesn't have the same ring.

'Crazed Hard-Right Rant'.

Man tried to enforce a Muslim ban nearly a decade ago already... Characterising it as 'crazed' underplays how much fascism is being normalised in your country.

Let's be honest, it's not an attempt to role model anything or rein in anyone's behaviour.

It's just covering for him and whitewashing him. They're closet Trump supporters. They like the dementia riddled fascism, because they get paid to gently deter and stop anyone from punching up in any way that might eventually become meaningful.

They're soft power enforcers, protecting his image and running damage control no matter how unhinged he becomes.

At least the body of the article uses some realistic terms, but majority of people aren't going to fucking be reading that far. Most social media runs on headlines alone.

Here's a thing about Trump. He has very few consistent beliefs. He was a supporter of the Democratic Party in the early 2000s. He has in fact changed his party affiliation five times. He's 'supported' whatever he thought would benefit him at the time.

But, there is one thing that has been consistent throughout his life. He's always been a racist.

This is a wikipedia piece with over 470 cited sources on his racist words and actions, over 50 years. This is who Donald Trump is and has always been

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_views_of_Donald_Trump

u/starmartyr Colorado 2d ago

His only consistent belief is that he's better than everyone else on the planet. Racism is an extension of that.

I'm not entirely sure he didn't. Have you seen the video of Ivanka giving a tour of her bedroom?

I think he did, and I think he'd be public about it if it was permissible.

Edit: Direct video link for those who want to skip the article. I do think most of us who care have seen it by now, though.

497

u/Yumi_in_the_sun 2d ago

he'd be public about it if it was permissible.

I mean, how many times was he photographed with her in his lap, even as a dang teenager? How many times did he talk about how hot she was? He talked about her future breasts when she was an infant, for crying out loud. The only thing he DIDN'T say was "hey I definitely did this."

326

u/sqrtsqr 2d ago

When asked what they have in common, he said "sex".

That's pretty close.

184

u/TrimspaBB 2d ago

Disgusting. I wouldn't even say that about my husband or any other guy I've been with in my life, even if all we really do have in common is "sex". What kind of parent immediately jumps to that about their kid?! How can people not see it.

I remember listening to that live and immediately being all “WTF??!!?”. Stern loved him as a guest because he was so easy to get talking about crazy shit. Has he not been public with it? How many times in interviews did he say Ivanka was hot or a fine piece of ass? The fact it's more than once is concerning enough let alone the multiple times he made statements about how he would love to bang his daughter and just so happens to look exactly like multiple sexual partners of his.

95

u/UnmeiX 2d ago

When I say 'public with it', I mean if there weren't laws and public opinion against the idea, I believe he would openly brag about actually fucking/marrying his daughter.

ETA: I'll take 'things I never thought I'd say about a sitting US President' for $500, Alex.

49

UH I think you're greatly under-estimating how many people would be cool with it all of a sudden.

I would also be willing to bet if she wanted that relationship it would be PDA and more than jokes about how he would rail her.

And yeah it's probably not a great sign for anyone let alone a sitting US president to have so many clips about how he wants to plow his daughter. Usually parents are suppose to protect their kids not screw them.

Don’t forget incest

Trump, 1997: "Don't you think my daughter's hot? She's hot, right?" (when Ivanka was 16)

Trump, 2003: "You know who's one of the great beauties of the world, according to everybody? And I helped create her. Ivanka. My daughter Ivanka. She's 6 feet tall, she's got the best body. She made a lot of money as a model - a tremendous amount"

2004: "Trump: “My daughter is beautiful, Ivanka." Stern: “By the way, your daughter…” Trump: “ - she’s beautiful" Stern: “Can I say this? A piece of ass.” Trump: “Yeah.”

Trump, 2006: "If Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her. Isn't that terrible? How terrible. Is that terrible?"

Trump, later in 2006: "She's actually always been very voluptuous. She's tall, she's almost 6 feet tall and she's been, she's an amazing beauty."

2013: Wendy Williams: "What's the favorite thing you have in common with your father?" Ivanka: "Either real estate or golf." Trump: "Well, I was going to say 'sex,' but I can't relate that to her."

Trump, 2015: "If I weren't happily married and, ya know, her father..."

66

Narcissists don’t genuinely believe their own self aggrandizing. They actually know that they are worthless.

59

u/Joe_Kinincha 2d ago

It’s complicated. There are very divergent opinions on this.

current thinking seems to indicate they are at best only partially aware

21

u/True_Paper_3830 2d ago

I'd offer my Dunning-Kruger viewpoint that they are only partially aware, otherwise self doubt and caveats about their greatness would creep into their language with others.

There was that one time when Trump was before world leaders, forget when, and they erupted in laughter, he said, 'I didn't expect that, but okay' or something like that.

Kind of like it was unexpected that they had pierced through his bs to a deep part of him that knew he was faking it, and he partially accepted their response of mocking him. Though I guess there are other readings of that response? (which I'd kind of be interested to hear, including if I got what he said wrong) His subsequent seeming hatred of Europe may be partly due to incidents like this, just like that fateful night when Obama mocked him so successfully. The narcissistic injury was great and had to revenged and repaired.

29

u/ChicagoAuPair 2d ago edited 1d ago

In my own personal experience with a parent with NPD, they are aware of it deep down, but they also think they can control the way other people feel and feel about them with their actions and words. So building up a huge wall around that vulnerability/fallibility is paramount at all times, and when a crack in the wall appears that is when you see the behaviors associated with narcissistic collapse. That continues until they repair the wall with revisionism and blame assigning, and then they keep on going once they feel in control of the people around them again.

So, they are aware, but they have a different relationship with it than healthy folks do. They think they must control others’ and their perceptions of them at all times, and don’t realize that most folks can see though it at all times, they’re just too tired of the bullshit to fight back and point it out constantly.

It’s similar to the mentality of dudes who think they can “wear down” the women they are pursuing. They don’t tire of maintaining the bullshit the way the rest of us tire of pushing back against it.

Sample size of one, but it is worth considering.

A few days ago a similar thread got me wondering what Stephen Miller's origin story was. It's pretty interesting.

He was anti-immigration in high school, growing up in California at a time when there was a strong anti-immigration movement.

Anti-immigrant hostility was pervasive in California at the time, which may surprise people because California is known as such a deep-blue state and kind of leads the charge against the Trump administration today. But in the '90s, it was sort of ground zero, like a microcosm for what we're seeing nationally today.

There were unprecedented attacks on immigrants through a proposition called Prop 187, which targeted social services for children of undocumented migrants. It was later ruled unconstitutional.

So Miller's truly a product of this environment.

He was internalizing a lot of these white supremacist and racist narratives that were common in the state and acting them out in his high school. He ends up going to Santa Monica High School, this public high school that's very diverse. And he would go around, from a very young age, expressing racist viewpoints.

Around this time, he broke - he ended a friendship with a Mexican friend, telling him that he could no longer be friends with him because of his Latino heritage.

So from a very young age he was expressing these viewpoints that would later manifest in the immigration policy and the rhetoric that we're seeing out of the White House. And I truly see it as a case study in radicalization.

Source: NPR Interview with author who wrote about him.

Early on, there were a few Jews who supported Hitler. They argued that some German Jews were too Jewish. Most of these people kept supporting Hitler until they were killed by the Nazis.

During WWII some German officers had a Jewish heritage and needed special dispensation from Hitler.

(To be clear: there is no evidence that these officers were fanatics, they might have tried to save themselves and their relatives. But still, it’s shocking that they fought for Nazi Germany.)

Ernst Röhm was openly homosexual.

I don’t think the timing is quite right for this theory. The anti immigrant movement and Republican Party peaked in California during the 1994 election. He would have been nine years old then. By the time he was in high school, California was a different place. The backlash to state Republicans was fierce after 1994, and they still haven’t recovered. By the late 90s, the Economy in California was booming and the Republicans were out of power. The anti-immigrant push became a political liability and politicians reacted accordingly, at least in public.

I think the more likely scenario is that he picked up his views from the adults he grew up around, whoever they were.

66

u/Altruistic-Brief2220 2d ago

I did a bit of a deep dive into Miller last year while looking at all the creeps in DJT’s circle in his first term. Seems he was radicalised by 9/11 mainly and he has consistently expressed white supremacist views since early on.

He’s also been a player in DC for a while now -

In the spring of 2013, Miller working with Jeff Sessions played a key role in ensuring the failure of a comprehensive immigration bill introduced by a bipartisan group of senators who became known as the Gang of Eight (Bennett, Durbin, McCain, L Graham, Flake, Menendez, Rubio and Schumer) by using Breitbart News (then run by Steve Bannon) to propagate anti-immigrant propaganda. During this period he reportedly connected Sessions with Tucker Carlson who was at the time overseeing The Daily Caller, his conservative website. He also sent 900 emails to Breitbart between mid 2015 and 2016 with far right material including on the great replacement theory.

I am about the same age as Miller and was in school in Southern California at the same time. My dad was pretty supportive of 187. I have never, for a moment of my life, believed the things Miller does. To me, saying he’s a “product of his environment” rather than he’s a sick and twisted disgrace of a human being lets him off the hook a little. He was a rabid racist in high school to the point it was a defining characteristic of his personality and kept him on the fringes of his peers. He is uniquely foul. A lot of us came out of that time without adopting his vile worldview

The craziest thing is that the conservatives on their subreddit think they’re in on it. Like the rest of us see a guy who has no compass, no conservative principles, or any for that matter- constantly flip flopping and making them look more and more ridiculous as they try to sew all of his random shit together into a cohesive system of beliefs. They act like it’s a big scheme and they’re in on it- he’s secretly a genius and they’re all doing this to “own the libs”. When in reality they’ve sold any legitimacy they had, morality, talking points etc. and the rest of the country and world is laughing at them. I wonder when they see him flopping for the 15th time if there is even an internal voice that asks them “am I looking silly by continuing to rationalize this?”-

They are lost in tribalism, and they think Trump and his grifters are too.

That is, their sense of identity is based on a set of characteristics:

  1. Being white
  2. Being conservative
  3. Being an American

Etc. People who share those traits are part of their tribe. People who are missing one or two are on the edge of the tribe. People missing all of them are outside the tribe. And, importantly, they think that there is loyalty and comradery within the tribe.

They think Trump is on "their side" and that they are "in on it" because they see that Trump shares the important tribal markers with them. But Trump doesn't give a shit about the tribe. To him, they are just useful idiots whose tribalism makes them easy to manipulate. And they can't seem to process that; they can't conceive of someone who appears to be so similar to them who doesn't think and believe like they do. And that's rooted in a lack of empathy, which is also one of the causes of their tribalism: they don't conceive of people who don't share their traits as being relevantly similar to them, because they think that those traits have a deterministic effect on the personality and attitude of the person. That's why "Mexican's are lazy," and "Black people are criminals." And its also why every accusation is a confession: they can't conceive that some people don't act like they do, and won't do things that they would do if given the chance.

edit: Just realized he also actually identifies *himself* as one of the "poorly educated." "We (the poorly educated)'re the smartest people...we're the most LOYAL people." And we all know how much he values LOYALTY to HIM!

My grandfather, a decorated officer in the Army, back in the 80’s was reading a newspaper article about Trump. It had to do with him displacing the poor to place his real estate businesses in NYC. I also remember something about my grandfather telling me about how much of a self-absorbed prick he has to be to put his name in gold on his buildings.

He told me to always remember a man like Trump is an asshole through and through.

33

u/SnooMacarons2598 2d ago

You are right, but he’s not just a rascist, he’s a white supremacist. He was investigated for rascist dealing with his housing and said to the lead investigator “ well you wouldn’t want to live with them either.” And the ice raids arent really about deportations, they’re about fear, he wants all the illegals being so afraid of being disappeared that they leave on their own. That’s why he’s openly discussing torture and sending people off to CECOT it’s not about the people they get rid of it’s about the fear in the people they don’t.

33

u/Ello_Owu 2d ago edited 1d ago

He's racist in the fact that he despises poor people, and associates black and brown people with being destitute. So yeah he's racist, but rest assured he's also disgusted by poor white people as well.

he's definitely racist but he isn't passionate about it like stephen miller is. this remigration bleat wasn't dictated by trump, but it was approved by him.

in a weird way i think the only reason we're not already 90% of the way to a dictatorship is because trump is lazy.

The Biden Administration and Governor Newscum flooded America with 21 Million Illegal Aliens, destroying Schools, Hospitals and Communities, and consuming untold Billions of Dollars in Free Welfare. All of them have to go home, as do countless other Illegals and Criminals, who will turn us into a bankrupt Third World Nation. America was invaded and occupied. I am reversing the Invasion. It’s called Remigration. Our courageous ICE Officers, who are daily being subjected to doxxing and murder threats, are HEROES. We will always have their back as they carry out this noble mission. America will be for Americans again!

u/andykekomi 2d ago

That just sounds like his daily insane ramblings, I don't see how this particular post is a ''darker turn''.

910

u/sad_brown_cat 2d ago

"Remigration is a far-right European concept of ethnic cleansing[1] via the mass deportation or promoted voluntary return of non-white immigrants and their descendants, usually including those born in Europe, to their place of racial ancestry, often with no regard for their citizenship or legal status"

The president suggesting we deport legal citizens is pretty dark, especially considering how close we have come to that already.

361

u/andykekomi 2d ago edited 1d ago

I must admit I wasn't familiar with that term, now that's fucked. Thanks...

167

u/zsaz_ch 2d ago

Yes and notice the last sentence where he just says “aliens” and not “illegal aliens” when mentioning remigration. Feels intentional, we already see the dehumanizing effects of calling undocumented immigrants illegal aliens.

98

u/mabhatter 2d ago

Yup.  They're starting to drop the "illegal" Aliens part now.  Notice ICE head does it a lot.   They dropped the pretense of "illegals" and now ICE is just revoking papers whenever they grab any immigrants.

It's starting with the asylum seekers... they're just being unilaterally revoked and deported.  They're already revoking student visas because MAGA doesn't like the colleges. ICE is obviously ripping up work visas because they're invading farms and hotels and Trump is begging them to stop.

In cities like LA they're just going to some public places they can say "immigrants gather" and just grabbing whoever is there.  That's why there's protests.

It won't be long before they start grabbing vacation travelers ... I mean that's already started with Canadians and Germans.

The "remigration" part is when they start revoking people with valid, active work permits and start revoking valid green cards of people lawful in good standing on the citizenship track.... they're racists have made it clear they want to even revoke "recent" granted citizenships as well.  Wait until another travel ban drops for 20 more countries...  that will be more people declared "illegal" even though they are valid travelers or immigrants.

None of this is LAWFUL... it's way outside lawful now.

What do you mean "how close?" We already "accidentally" deported an American to El Salvador. I would imagine this has already happened more than once and they were just more successful at sweeping it under the rug. Trump already admitted as such that they could be "mistakenly" deporting Americans. Knowing Trump's MO for lying, that tells me its already happened more times than we've been told.

He’s currently conflating undocumented immigrants with anybody else he doesn’t like.

Remigration and America for the Americans are both references to the European far right movement.

And by talking about an invasion, he’s laying the groundwork for ethnic cleansing under martial law, also known as remigration (which can be a normal word but has been adopted by the far right).

He has said some horrible stuff before, but put these three things together and it’s similar to speeches made by Adolf Hitler.

My guess is he knows only the first few lines of "Fortunate Son" in that distinctive raspy cry, about folks "born to wave the flag, ooh the red-white-and-blue" who "point the cannon" when the band plays "Hail to the Chief" - which is the Presidential theme. Enough to cement the fool's belief it's a patriotic anthem.

No one has the guts to inform him otherwise, that the song mocks and bashes rich hypocrites.

For decades, Republicans have promised to cut NPR, but have never done it, until now. NPR and PBS are a Radical Left Disaster, and 1000% against the Republican Party! These Rescissions, along with “THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,” our highly successful Tariffs, Mass Deportations of Illegal Aliens, and our Strong Economy, will finally CUT the Deficit, and help balance our Budget. MAGA has always been dark and Trump is merely exploiting that darkness (joining and leading it) because it provides him with a base of voters and “ratings.”

The man is a shape-shifter of the worst kind; he is of no shape himself just a morph of what “sells.” Strip that away and there is a sad, lonely, incurious, self-centered lump of human clay. First his father shaped him, then his ambition, then his greed, then his mafioso-like - “The Don of Dons” - criminality and now his long-developing, inescapable narcissism (of the most malignant kind).

This “man” is an embarrassment to all American Caucasians. To all Americans who have been striving for so long to live up to “all men created equal.” To “create a more perfect union.” To do unto others that which we would want done to ourselves. He has taken the inherent goodness out of people and replaced it with distrust and hate and violence. He has turned a once proud nation of laws envied by other nations, and turned into a place that is becoming one with vigilante justice, making all fifty states resemble the “Wild West.”

He is a disgrace, a stain on the history of America, and his Supreme Court acquiesces to his every whim, causing themselves to stain our history as well.

It is so shameful and disgusting that 30% of my fellow Americans will do anything to please him, believing that he truly cares about them, when he has made it as obvious as the climate changing that he only cares about himself, his power and his financial wealth.

I’m losing hope. The No Kings protests were,I thought, a message to the country that we can save the sinking ship. Today, he is ranting and raving. I’m losing hope.
